I am a first year beekeeper and was told not to expect to be able to harvest any honey the first year, especially with a new hive box where the bees need to spend a lot of time building out the wax comb and then storing the honey. I am hoping that next year I will be able to harvest honey. In the meantime I'm reading up on the type of equipment to get. I saw this heating blanket for 5 gallon honey buckets to prevent it from freezing and decided to test it out. Assembly of the heater and pad are pretty straightforward and the hook and loop enclosure does a great job of keeping it wrapped tight around the standard 5 gallon bucket. I turned it on and warmed up a bucket of water and could see that the temperature increased with the heater on it and the controls attached are easy to use and configure to keep the bucket ccontents warm, especially in freezing weather.

In less than 5 minutes it had heated up 20 degrees from ambient temperature (Fahrenheit). Heat cuts on and off to keep a constant temperature. Really well-made design. Nylon material, adjustable velcro attachments. Heating pad wraps around the bucket and has a secondary pad for the bottom as well. The controls are easy to use, temperature is easy to set. The electrical components are sealed in such a way that this thing can safely be used to heat liquids that might spill or seep. We are using this for fall and spring biologically active garden ammendments. They have to be kept at a constant temperature for a period of time for the microorganisms to proliferate and populate the growing media or liquid environment, depending on the type we're growing. Most people would use a heating element put into the liquid, but this is better, and it can be used for both types of preparations. For small-scale gardeners interested in JADAM preparations, this could be an excellent tool for you.

This works well .. ive tried to think of other uses for this - but i cant - if you have anything in 5 gallon containers that need to stay warm - this will do it. Obviously made for honey and does this job well .. could keep paint from freezing as well. Or other sensitive liquids! Provides even heat. Can recommend!

Thus element only heats from the bottom. You are able to set and monitor the temperature via the controls. This is great for the winter to keep honey from freezing. The entire thing is plug and play, and the controls are self explanatory. Update: At first I thought this was a little on the expensive side, but after looking at other pail heaters and playing with it some more I think you are getting a great value. It does not heat too fast so there is no risk of cooking the contents. These are used to prevent things from freezing in the winter, which means you can use it for paint, honey, sugar, water any liquid you need to stay above freezing. After a few weeks of use it has kept working. I have been very impressed.

As a beekeeper, this is really useful! When honey gets cool, it thickens up and can be harder for it to flow, so being able to warm it up is needed, but it needs to be done properly and this heater does it well. This heater functions well, is good quality and doesn’t overheat. It was easy to use and didn’t take long to heat up. Overall, good value for the money.

The media could not be loaded. I was impressed by the feel of it, its very thick and high quality. I LOVE that there is a bottom pad that gets heat evenly and effectively distributed! My honey bucket looked practically empty because the heat made the pour so much faster and less bubbles. I was able to get very drop left! It can get very hot if you would like to de crystalize but I kept mine at 95F just to help the bubbles and pour and it worked amazing! Now I can't bottle without it! Fits any 5 gallon bucket easy and won't melt either, felt like a really thick heating pad. Easy to spot clean the honey off too.

This is a good value. I have another "pail heater" that heats faster, but this one costs considerably less (at time of writing this) and gets the job done. Fits well and controls are intuitive. I'm putting it to use now, but temps will get colder in coming months so 'test of time' will work its course. If my thoughts change, I'll be back to update.
