Description

THE STORY OF BEARPAW In 2001, a young Tom Romeo was searching for a sign that would help him choose between his two passions. Like many people, Tom has a special spot that is his “happy place”, where he finds time to meditate and listen to nature. While sitting on the special rock located on the shores of Lake Tahoe, a massive bear suddenly paused a short ways away from him, stared directly at him for a moment, and decided to move along without any confrontation. This magical experience had to be some sort of sign, and it inspired Tom to seek out the meaning of this encounter. Tom soon learned that a bear crossing is viewed by many as a sign of good luck and while symbolizing strength, the bear serves as a guide for many at an impasse. All doubt had gone away for Tom and he knew this was an opportunity to start his own shoe company founded on this great animal, with the name BEARPAW as an homage to his chance meeting with that bear in Tahoe. Shortly after, the very first BEARPAW boot style was created, called EVA. Since then, the EVA has evolved into our ELLE boot, and is still the most popular shoe style in the company’s collection. Both EVA and ELLE embodied the BEARPAW lifestyle with their warmth and effortless style. The BEARPAW team now creates shoe styles for all walks of life, so you can live life comfortably wherever you are.

I ordered the black and brown pair, and received lots of compliments. The color was just like the picture. These are great for Winter, because of the furry insoles that keep your feet warm. However, the insoles can be removed, but I wouldn't wear them without the insoles, because that would take away the support of the shoe. Ease to slip on is on point. These can be worn outside to run errands, because of the hard soles on the bottom, helps with stability. I do have have to mention, the black pair had a couple of stitches missing around the toe area, and a little white peeked through. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, so I didn't return them. I have been a fan of Bearpaw for many years. I liked the black slippers however the black turns your toes backish. I will stick with the tan ones. I just love these.

I ordered a size 9 which is my usual size, but my toes hit the front of the slipper. I kept them hoping they will stretch out a bit. I would size up 1/2 size when ordering.

This is my third pair of Bearpaw slippers. They fit perfectly and are warm in the winter. I can go outside in them as they have a rubber sole. In fact I can live in them most of the time.

I really wanted to like these slippers. Size 8W fit me best—I initially purchased 7M, but could barely get my feet into them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep the 8W’s for the following reasons: In the 8W’s, my big toe went to the very tip of the shoe—which suggests maybe I should have had an 8.5W. But the 8W’s were slipping badly at my left heel (my left foot is shorter than my right). The problem is women have narrower heels than men—but this slipper does not take that into account. The “last” of this slipper is not appropriate for women. In addition, the stitching around the left forefoot was narrower than the right forefoot, although the two slippers felt the same. L.L. Bean’s Camp Moccasin, which looks just like the Bearpaw, is a better made slipper, but the L.L. Bean slipper was simply too warm for me. I ended up with L.L. Bean’s Ultralight PrimaLoft Slip-Ons (made in Vietnam), after an extensive search through Amazon’s slippers. I suggest you try them on at a store—there is no substitute for this. Then either order them on the web (where they are on sale), or order them from an Outlet store. They cost about the same as the wide Bearpaws, and you will end up with a better made slipper. I love these so much, the sole on them is sturdy and i wear them outside like regular shoes, the wool is real and super high quality, I have no complaints I love them. I will recommend to size up if you have wide or puffier feet, my feet are very narrow and it was a squeeze the first week!
