  • Bear Grylls I thought was full of it
Surprisingly good build quality

  • Exactly what I was looking for
I was looking for something to replace my 6-inch Buck fixed blade confidence knife. Wanted something that wasn't constantly in the way, but could still offer some confidence if approached by an animal tougher than me. This fits the bill nicely. I don't particularly like the serrated edge, yet I will see if that somehow ever comes in handy. Otherwise, I think it is a perfect knife considering the price. The blade is bigger than you might think and appears that it would provide an adequate deterrent if pressed into action. I was surprised that the knife came razor sharp. I anticipate that it will be easy to sharpen using a butcher steel. In the past, I have had knives where the blade is so hard you have to spend a lot of time to put an edge on it. I am guessing (by the price) this will be quick to come to an edge. I much prefer this. As far as the design, I don't see anything that I would do differently. Most of the knives I was looking at had pocket clips, which I did not want. I like the belt pouch better. I figured that if I had it in a pocket I was more likely to be in the woods and reach for my knife only to discover my knife was in the pair of pants setting in the laundry basket. The sheave is decent enough. The knife fits perfectly as one would expect as it was made for this knife. I suppose I would have rather spent another dollar and had the sheave made out of a little heavier material; especially the belt loop. Time will tell how that holds up. Overall considering the price, I don't think you can go wrong. ... show more

  • Rugged.
Really tough knife. had my first one for five years then lost it. Bought another one just like it. I used my first one at least once every day and will use this one every day too.

  • I’m here to buy it again after losing mine
I had this knife for about 5 years before it got stolen out of my car. I mainly used it for camping. I love the tactile grip of it in my hand. It’s very sturdy. It also has, what I consider, the perfect blade length with a nice ratio of blade to serrated, at least for my uses. It is small enough to easily slip down in your pockets. I would occasionally wear the sheath on my belt when we would go hiking. I used it for carving sticks (hiking stick, fire poker sticks, hot dog/marshmallow cooking sticks). I used it several times to open cans when we forgot the can opener, cutting steaks, cutting paracord…. The list goes on. The knife never failed me and was still sharp enough for my uses when it got stolen after 5 years. When I wasn’t out camping with it, it stayed in the sheath inside my car and I used it for small every day purposes like cutting open packages. We have a camping trip coming up and it won’t feel right if I don’t have my trusty knife with me so I’m here to buy another one. ... show more

  • BG got this one right !!
The media could not be loaded. This is the Best of the BG offerings. Most retailers sell it for 30 bucks which is a bit much but when I found it on sale for 19 bucks my cat like reflexes took over. This knife is no toy. Its very sturdy with no blade play and has a good solid feel... I was pleasantly surprised with how tuff this thing realy is. It will make a great back up to your fixed blade survival selection. The handle is fantastic and very grippy even when wet. The rubberized grip absorbs impact and sticks to your hand. It fits VERY nicely in the hand and feels like an extension of it. With a dual thumb stud it opens easily, locks into place with a confident "SNAP" of the lock back and securely closes for safety. You will not feel "under knifed" with this thing. The thick but not too heavy high carbon steel blade is half serrated and comes very sharp. Love Gerbers serrations... great for cutting rope, cordage and strapping. Lots of so called knife experts reject Gerber's steel but I find it tough, dependable and easy to sharpen. The serrations cut paper better than the straight edge portion... they are danger sharp! I like the orange accents on this type of knife... makes it easier to find in a hurry which makes sense since that's what it's for. The nylon sheath is excellent. Don't forget to melt any frayed ends with your lighter... this will help it to last longer and look great. Even comes with survival instructions that seem to be printed on moisture resistant paper. A fine knife... good job Bear and Gerber. ... show more

  • Cut down about 100 trees ranging from 1/2"-6" in diameter
I have used this knife for everything. Ranging from cutting the tape on a box to cutting up a tree, or smashing a rock. Whatever you need done this knife can most likely do it. It will stay sharp for long if you abuse it, but the tip is the weakest point. This knife was surprisingly sharp out of the box, although it does not look like it will be. I have had this knife for more than half a year and It has served me well. The way I use it, the knife would require a good sharpening every week, but I don't take good care of it and it is still nice and sharp. Only con: The thumb stud fell off because it is not screwed on, just two pieces pressed together. I lost one side and superglued the other piece back on. Has not given me a problem since. This was the first break, manufacturer's fault. I cut down trees by hacking, chopping, slicing, dicing, stabbing, etc. etc. The tip snapped off when a friend tried hitting into the core of a tree with the tip while reducing the trunk. This was the second break, all personal fault. The handle snapped when another, less careful, friend tried cutting up a tree and hit the handle with a club and it split at the joint of the blade, but i was able to melt it back together. I use it more as a box opener now, but it could probably still do some work. This was the last break, again, all personal fault. ... show more
