So... the family has a beloved story about how my brother in law nearly died from using the old wire bristle grill cleaning brush. Yes, we're that kind of family. I don't dare do something stupid around the rest of them as I know I'll be hearing "hilarious" retellings of my Stupidity Exploits until the end of time. So bear with me - a few summers ago, after a cookout my brother in law became ill. He thought it was the flu, but it became apparent to my sister it was something more and she wanted to take him to the ER, but he was outraged. "Dammit, I know my body, I'm FINE". Famous last words of every guy you've ever known. Turns out he had a perforated internal part (colon? intestine? I can't remember exactly which) as he'd ingested a tiny bristle from the grill cleaner. He had to have an emergency operation, and will never live down the emphatic "DAMMIT, I KNOW MY BODY!". Anyway, I'd never even heard that this was a "thing" but it turns out it's far more common than most folks are aware of. If you have one of those old "wire bristle" brushes, THROW IT AWAY. NOW. I'll wait. Ok, it's gone? You promise? The bristles leave behind tiny almost microscopic fibers that can be deadly if you swallow one, and you won't even know it until the consequences start to manifest. This GRILLX "brush" is a marvel of modern engineering. No bristles. Don't ask me to describe it, go look at the pictures. It's much more sturdy and substantial a piece than the images would lead you to believe. Comes with a nice drawstring bag for storage. It takes a bit of getting used to, as it doesn't give that satisfying "SCRAAAAAAAPE" that you get from the bristle type (the DEADLY bristle type, remember!) It does the job though, and combined with some grill cleaning gunk it's more than up to the challenge. RECOMMENDED!

I got this brush for prepping my grill for the barbecue season. It comes neatly packaged in a plastic cover to protect the head, and all that inside a non-woven synthetic fiber drawstring bag. The handle is durable black plastic and long enough for a good two-handed grip so you can really apply pressure to scrub a dirty grill. The shaft consists of six heavy duty twisted stainless steel wires fastened together with a stainless steel clip to bestow better rigidity. The business end has a stainless steel scraper on one side, with a flat edge for scraping a griddle and a notch on each end for scraping round grill material. The other side has three sets of stainless steel wire coils inter-twisted with the heavy stainless steel shaft material. This give a wide scrubbing surface that does not have sharp bristles. The way the wire coils are made and embedded, you will not have to worry about loose metal bristles coming out and potentially becoming embedded in your food. The ad copy on Amazon referred to the brush as having non-metallic wire bristles. Neither is true. The only non-metallic part of this is the handle, and there are no bristles. I found the angle of the notches in the scraper blade to be somewhat awkward for applying good linear pressure on a grill rod. Also, the coils are good for lighter levels of soil but they are not aggressive enough for really caked on gunk. In the case of heavy gunk I recommend using the scraper blade first, followed by the cleaning grooves, then follow up with the brush component.

So normally I shy away from the metal bristle brushes. They work great but when they start breaking down it's possible to get little metal slivers in your food. So I tried this one instead and I really like it. Instead of metal bristles, it has continuous metal coils that are not as likely to break over time. And, if they do break as it wears, it should become more obvious and allow me to stop using it. The brush works really well at cleaning the grill. It has a nice comfortable long handle. Overall an excellent value.

This thing looks like a beast. Appearances can sometimes be deceiving, however. The blade works well enough removing superficial buildup, but as far as penetrating between grill slats, this scraper falls short. The traditional metal brush does a superior job, at least on my Weber Q. Will be looking at other options to replace this.

This scraper is great, I use it on my cast iron grill. I like the closed loop wires for scrubbing the grill without fear of bristles coming loose and getting into your food causing injury.
