For the price, this is an excellent box. I use it for my Apple Ultra watch bands and a few other items. The wood itself is very attractive, the burl has a lot of “pop”. This size was ideal for my use. Thuya burl has a unique odor, similar to western cedar. It’s sort of a weird odor but it’s a normal characteristic of this wood species. When you unpack this box, the unusual wood odor is normal. Be aware that because this box has a cedar like odor inside, anything you put into it, like Apple Watch bands will also smell like cedar. I found that out a few days after the box arrived. I do a lot of woodworking and have used Thuya burl for a Japanese knife handle and when it’s sanded, the smell is very pungent. The saw dust can be irritating to some but as solid wood it’s fine. The high gloss finish is well done. The inside of the box is unfinished, hence the wood odor so be aware of the cedar scent. The thin lid hinges appear to be dark brass. For the money, this is a top rate accessory box. Hope that helps.

My earring collection has outgrown their current wooden box, so when I found this one I knew it would be perfect. The wood is lovely, with a complex natural wood grain. Closes perfectly too. Will add a layer of felt to the bottom before putting earrings in.

I bought the medium to put on top of my regular sized jewelry box to hold the pieces I wear most frequently. I was worried about the smell, the grain, the hinges, and if it would be sticky as one review mentioned. The one I received is beautiful. The hinges are fine and it isn't sticky or tacky at all. It has a slight smell, almost a combination of cedar and eucalyptus. I expected this as burlwood has an odor, as most natural wood does. I am VERY sensitive to smells, but this one doesn't bother me. Just be aware that burlwood does have a distinctive scent. Also pay attention to the dimensions. Mine is exactly as I expected the size to be, so I am completely satisfied, but I clearly read the measurements before purchasing. Based on the one I received, I would highly recommend these, and they would make a great gift or a holder for a gift of jewelry or a watch. I placed a couple bracelets and a key fob inside for scale. I have a small collection of little boxes and am thinking about purchasing the smallest size to hold a ring or two or earrings.
