  • Good product - ineffective support
I thought the device wasn't working and reached out to BatPower for support. Only option was a chat. After a few questions I was told that "well it looks like it's not working anymore." The clear implication was to just toss it. I persevered, checked more forums online, and eventually found that both my usb a to usb c cable was defective, and I didn't have the Surface slim connector plugged in all the way. Now I've got a working device, and very pleased... but that "support" person was way too ready to give up, with no offer to help me figure out which part was not working, possibly sell me a replacement for the charger or the battery, or just generally help me preserve the value of my purchase. So... solid product, but support could be more, well, supportive. ... show more

  • Great Overall Package
I write "package" here because for me this ended up being more than just the battery. The versatility of this product with the charger is really a huge selling point that I didn't even know about before I bought it. I bought this as a backup battery about 5 months ago to use for my laptop while on the go, as I do a lot of heavy 3D rendering and video editing, I lose battery like nothing else. Being able to get a few more hours out of use on the go is huge for me. But I found myself also using the charger included with this more often than the actual battery. I use the battery while I am on the go, and now use this charger as my on the go charger (as it also has 2 included fast chargers that allow me to charger my phone or other camera accessories quickly off the same charger as my laptop. Then having the fast charger on the battery itself along with 3 USB ports, I pretty much am always good to go. Being able to charge the battery while also charging my laptop is a big plus too. There are a few things you should know. The battery (as all batteries do) has a bit of weight to it. I don't consider this a con, but you should be aware of it as it is an "on the go" product and you are most likely carrying it in your laptop bag. It also can get kind of hot when fast charging a phone or charging the laptop. I have had this problem with pretty much any fast charger, and they included a great lightweight breathable mesh bag that I keep the battery in which allows me to not worry about it overheating and still pick it up without worrying about the heat. (Not sure exactly how hot it has gotten before, I have never measured it, but I know it has gotten hot enough where you would not want to hold it for more than a little bit.) I think this is just more the nature of large batteries like this... electricity makes heat. But again you should be aware. Other things to note: I never use the flashlight. It's cool I guess, though not very bright. Definitely not why you are buying this though. The button I found confusing a little, to begin with. I am sure they explain it in the paperwork that came with the battery but... its a battery so I never really read it haha. Anyway, it seems there are 2 types of power outputs. One signified by the lights all being green, the other by them all being red. So changing between (I think its 15v and 12v, not sure) is signified through that. Also whether the battery is on or off is hard to tell, I think it just turns on when something is plugged in and turns off when something isnt? So the lights are really just indicated battery level when you click them but I am not sure. The charging level indicator isn't always super accurate for me while it is plugged in. Sometimes it will say it is at 1 (of 4) dots but when I unplug it it corrects itself and says it is fully charged. I have only experienced that a few times. Nothing that has ever slowed me down, but something to note. I have never had any issues with the charger itself (it has only ever gotten slightly warm) and none of the things listed above were really "issues" for me with the battery but I wanted to be transparent. Overall I was considering buying this for a long time and am glad I finally did, it was a little bit of an investment but it gave me the confidence to be able to work on larger projects on the go without worrying about having to stop in the middle or losing something because my battery died. P.S. I did have a brief issue with the surface connect cable they sent me. It worked great for 5 months and then the rubber where it meets the connector started to melt a little bit. Not sure if this was something caused by me not having it plugged in all the way but I stopped using it immediately and contacted their support and they shipped me a new one no questions asked. I assume this was just a fluke cable issue as I hadn't really seen anyone else having this problem. So I wouldn't consider it too much while making your purchase, and they had a quick and very helpful customer service experience directly on their website. ... show more

  • I only used the battery twice, so why am I writing a review?
I bought the BatPower pack two years ago, but didn't have a need for it for this time frame. The battery pack did charge the Surface Pro 5 computer the way it was supposed to, but when I recharged the battery--nothing! the power adapter was DEAD. Because I did not need the battery and had other things to think about, I did not contact customer service, causing the warranty to expire. Why I mention this is because Customer Service said they would replace the power adapter if I would write a positive review. I can be positive about how the battery has worked so far. However, I have issues with the faulty adapter, the difficult manual, and the inability to recharge the battery quickly without the proper connectors. As stated, the power adapter never worked. Since the fast charge connector cable only worked with that adapter, the alternative was a trickle charge with a USB mini port, and that is inconvenient. If the input were via USB C as in other brands of chargers, this would not have been a problem because I could have used another adapter. I consider this a design charging. The manual is a small print, paper-skimping, all model set of instructions. It takes a bit of skill to read them. I found my model by the measurements listed for each model, though I did eventually see the model number and power size packed in with the electrical specifications on the end of the battery.
