Great boots for hunting, hiking, and work. Lightweight, comfortable and good support. My first pair lasted 1.5 years, used for ranching, utilities work and hunting almost daily. The zipper makes them easy to put on/take off going in and out of house or truck. Will post pic, they look rough but they were abused and $100 boots with 1 year manufacturer warranty. Hard to beat.     • Impressions after a few days of use

Compared to the previous model, the toe box feels a bit stiffer. At first, I felt some pressure on my toes, but after a few days of breaking them in, the discomfort completely disappeared. The outsole also seems to have been upgraded — the material feels slightly firmer, and the larger contact area provides excellent traction. Walking stability has clearly improved on both paved and unpaved surfaces. There appears to be some variation in stitching quality depending on the pair, but the one I received was perfectly made. No crooked seams or loose threads — I’d say I got a good one. Cushioning is on the firm side, but since the sole is designed a bit deeper, it’s easy to fine-tune with aftermarket insoles. I personally use a slightly firm Sorbo-type insole, which gave me my preferred level of comfort. Overall, this new model feels more solidly built and gives a stronger sense of stability compared to the old version. The cost performance is excellent, and I’m very satisfied with it. Once I wear these out, I’ll definitely buy the same model again. ... show more

    • Catastrophic failure of side zipper on three pairs of these!!!

I used to love these boots. The first pair I bought lasted 2 years. The second pair lasted 1 year. The third pair lasted 9 months . I've bought three pairs in the past year and the side zipper has failed catastrophically on all of them. The first side zipper failed catastrophically on BOTH boots SIMULTANEOUSLY when I was standing sideways on a slight Hill weed whacking. The second pair the side zipper failed within 2 months, and my third and final pair because I will never buy these again under any circumstances, failed in less than a month! I am beyond furious. This particular boot used to be amazing and has deteriorated in quality to such a severe degree that I'm speechless. Avoid these boots at all costs. I'm not being hyperbolic or histrionic whatsoever. These are complete and utter trash and they will fail catastrophically with normal use. ... show more

    • Be aware! Inside flap prevents boot from fully opening!

I wish someone had posted this before I bought them. Or at least in the item description / pics. The thing I love most about side zip boots is the ease of putting them on / taking them off. Just open the zipper and the boot flays open with more than enough room to slide the foot in / out without ever needing to untie the laces. Well, that's not the case with these boots. There is a fabric flap that connects both sides of the boot, so when you unzip it all the way, it does NOT fully open to allow room for your foot to slide in. You would still need to tie / untie them on every use. I guess the flap allows a little more room to wedge your foot in, but you definitely aren't just slipping these on / off like most side zip boots. Aside from that, they are super comfortable. Bates is the gold standard of work boots. I work in a school setting, so I walk on concrete floors all day, and Bates feels like I'm wearing sneakers. ... show more

    • Good cheap shell-like (backup) boot for 4E feet.

Uncomfortable out of the box. Break in period felt terrible, but they're not too heavy and arch support is ok. It feels like having a protective shell around the top of your foot. Massive downgrade from the GX versions. These boots need a high quality squishy insert. The footbed is very stiff and the included insert barely helps with comfort, especially at the heel. If you don't already have a good insert then you might as well just buy the GX version. The one good plus!? Wide comfortable toe box! Great cheap boot for 4E feet, but better as a backup than a daily boot. ... show more
