  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality boots; sized a little large
Size: 9 Color: Black
I got these boots for motorcycle riding. So far, so good. They give solid support, while being light and comfortable, and easy to walk in. They are also easy to take off with the side zipper, though I do need to unlace to get them back on. They look pretty cool too, IMO. My only complaint and the reason for the 4 rating instead of 5, is they are too roomy in the toe, even with thick wool socks on. I wear a size 9, which is just right for all other shoes I buy. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Airforce Crew Chief wearing
Size: 10.5 X-Wide Color: Coyote
First off it took me a while to break the boat in. I ordered the wide and they feel snugged on my foot. Yes I double checked my order and the information on my sizing tag. But once the boats broke in, they are much more comfortable to wear. As far as comfort goes, as I'm working I don't think much about my feet so I would say like a 8 or 9, but when I get home I'm very happy to be off my feet and relaxing. Not sure I'd it boat fatigue just tired, I just don't remember having that feeling with my last pair of boats. Been wearing these boats during the winter so they are water resistant, not issues with wet feet. On the same flip side, I have noticed my feet run warm and if it was hot outside, I think my feet would burn up and sweat like crazy. I feel like the traction foe the work I do is lacking. I work on concrete flightline and when I have to push a power cart, I find myself slipping due to lack of toe traction. Overall I'm happy with the boats but I wouldn't recommend them to someone doing my job, if you need a water proof, composite toe boat and don't need to push heavy equipment around, these well be good. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable out of the box, however.,
Size: 9 X-Wide Color: Coyote
I love the comfort out of the box, lightweight and very little break-in period, however, the leather is very thin on the toe portion that covers up the safety toe,and being on my knees to install electric outlets they wore right through in a short amount of time, very disappointing,so I won't bother purchasing any more,I purchased a new pair of s2v from rocky, and although they do not have the side zipper, they are as comfortable or more,so than the Bates,I wish they would warranty them and replace mine,Bates sold to wolverine and not sure how to get them to replace them or if it's possible thru wolverine, lesson learned ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite
Size: 13 X-Wide Color: Coyote
I usually buy Belleville to wear in my construction job but they tend to be a little narrow around the toes for me so I’m trying to branch out a little. These boots have more cushion and are shorter than what I normally get. Some may like that but it doesn’t suit my preference. I usually tuck my pants into my boot to keep them from getting dirt and mud around the bottoms but they won’t stay tucked into these boots. I was eager for the side-zip feature but I after tying the boots to where they felt comfortable I found I couldn’t get my foot back into them without untying the laces which kind of killed it for me. I will (probably) wear these till they are dead (seems a waste otherwise; they aren’t awful after all) but won’t get them again. ... show more

these are good boots, i've used them for a few months. my only complaint is that they are supposed to be gore-tex, but they don't breathe. they keep most water out, but most foot sweat in. i've never had a problem with smelly feet, but these boots are pushing the envelope. i only use them when i expect lots of external moisture. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Best shoe; better sock
Size: 10.5 X-Wide Color: Coyote
Just bought my 3rd set of Bates work boots. I walk a lot on bad terrain so when a boot can last me 18 months that is saying something. So when they threw in a free pair of socks in the last order I had to give a thorough test. I wore them 3 full days in a row without washing them and they are still almost like new. I'd say the boots deserve a 9.5 out of 10. The socks belong on a scale with unicorn wishes and angel kisses. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Updated June 4th 2022:Last pair finally gave in. Back of the left boot failed and then both zippers.
Size: 14 Color: Coyote
These boots are my favorite aside from the price and not lasting more than 3 to 6 months. Updated June 4th 2022: Last pair finally gave in. Back of the left boot failed and just a few weeks later the zippers on both boots broke. I really like these boots but at this rate spending over $300 a year on boots is getting ridiculous. If these boots were around the $75 rang I would buy them every time and not care about when they fail so much. Update: Oct. 14th 2020. It finally happened. The back of my left boot tore open. This pair did last longer than the past few pairs. As of Oct. 26th the tear has not gotten any bigger. I was camping when it tore. During my camping trip I put my feet near the fire to warm up and the side of the bood melted. I did not have my feet in the fire only next to it and it was a small cooking fire. See pictures for more. I still really love these boots! Would love it if the manufacturer would use a mesh inside the rubber that keeps tearing as thus would limit how far it could stretch and likely prevent the tear from happening. Update: April 11th 2020. The boots went on sale 50% off so I bought two pair back on the 22nd of December 2019. Started wearing them about a week later. I am on my 4th month of use and no real problems yet. The next two months will tell if these are going to last longer than any others. Hope these updates are helping people. Update: Aug. 28th 2019. I really am loving these boots though it looks like I am just lucky and the rubber on back of the right boot keeps ripping open starting at the seam. I get about 4 to 6 months before the rubber gives way. The solution would be to add a fabric mesh inside the rubber durring production. Even with this dilemma I plan on buying these boots again. Feb. 5th 2019 Update: Swear I added an update about the damage to the back of the boot. Anyway, even though the laces broke in less than six months (laces brake, thats okay) and the rubber on the back of the boots broke open in less than three months I ordered another set and got them today. My hopes are that my lest set were just part of a bad production run. I will update this again when something happens to the new ones. Mar. 31st 2019 Update: I deleted some useless stuff in this review to make room for more useful info. SIZE: I wear size 14 for all my footwear and these are no exception. I ordered size 14, got size 14, and they fit perfectly. ZIPPER: Once you tie them (if you like your boots tight like me) using only the zipper to take them off is fine but basically impossible for putting the boots back on. LACES: To help me stay awake when driving I don't wear shoes. Because I work in the oil fields my boots go on and off many times throughout the day. I dont like lacing up my boots and I dont like boots cut below the ankle so lacing up is how it goes. We all know laces brake regularly and because my last pair of these boots laces didnt last even 2 months, I updates to bungee cord coyote brown 1/8" x 8' with a 1/8" cord lock and cut to length. See attached image BUNGEE: My last pair felt wider than my new pair though bungee cord made them more snug. The bungee also allows for more flexibility and easy on and off by use of the zipper alone. Refer to pictures for the lacing. Also notice that they are laced through the holes from the out side in, this helps keep them tight. I previously laced from the in side out and couldn't keep the boots snug, the bungee kept getting lose. Feed extra lace down to toes between tung and laces. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent boot
Size: 10.5 X-Wide Color: Coyote
Very comfortable and waterproof. I haul fuel for a living and ethanol usually eats boots up fast, but it seems like I get about a year out these until they get uncomfortable. They don’t fall apart like most boots. I will say the side zipper has gotten cheaper over the years. I would gladly pay a little more in price to have the old heavy duty zipper. ... show more
