Pretty amazing quality. Definitely fits the $150 price. It's very well crafted, everything feels and looks premium. Very comfortable. It has a tight fit to the heel, hugs up to the ball of your foot and opens up a bit for your toes to wiggle around. A perfect fit for me. Walking in them feels better than any boot I've had before. Even though my right foot is injured so the firmness of the new boot does hurt a bit. The insole has a thick, soft cushion for the heel, while it does thin out towards the toes. I picked these after trying on the Black GorTex GX8 with no toe protection at Scheels. GorTex is just too hot. Even in winter GorTex boots bake to an unbearable level. The standard boot with the addition of a composite toe is just what I need for shop work as a Service Technician. My last pair of boots are a pair of 2 y/o Merrell which is essentially Bates. They were also very comfortable. The only issue I had with those is that the sole wasn't 1 piece. So the nubs in the middle wore down and kept making annoying flapping noises with every step. I could actually feel it each time too. Other than that I'd still be wearing them. Unlike those these appear to be all 1 piece I hope. This is only day 1, I will update this review as time goes on. For me, these are the better buy over boots like Red Wings. Last time I tried those out they all had cardboard insoles and awful form to your foot. Red Wings are less comfortable than Walmart Boots. 1 year update: still very comfortable boots. Heel liner blew out as usual but feels fine. The hard heel cup or w.e it's called feels good still. Insoles lasted 6 months, easy fix. Still very usable boots. Not waterproof, but I used them all winter in North Dakota. Only switching to a pull on boot like Ariat because I need new tread for winter and waterproofing. Although these still grip well on the auto shop floors. Zipper works great, no issues. Soles haven't come undone and the glue holds strong. For a fairly lightweight comfortable boot I highly recommend. I tried on the waterproof black leather version inside Scheels. Very stiff, didn't like em. Also these laces are great, they don't seem like they hold very tight and could come loose at any moment, but they somehow hold steady. I still stand by my dislike for Redwing. I tried more out. Still garbage.

I recently purchased a pair of Bates boots in size 15, and I can confidently say they are nothing short of incredible. Finding footwear in larger sizes can often be a challenge, but these boots fit perfectly right out of the box. The sizing is true to measurement, and I felt an immediate sense of comfort that I had never experienced before with any other boot. The quality of the materials used in these boots is outstanding. From the robust leather to the cushioned insoles, every detail has been thoughtfully designed for both durability and comfort. I've worn them for long hours, and even after a full day on my feet, they continue to provide excellent support without any discomfort. These boots are my favorite aside from the price and not lasting more than 3 to 6 months. Updated June 4th 2022: Last pair finally gave in. Back of the left boot failed and just a few weeks later the zippers on both boots broke. I really like these boots but at this rate spending over $300 a year on boots is getting ridiculous. If these boots were around the $75 rang I would buy them every time and not care about when they fail so much. Update: Oct. 14th 2020. It finally happened. The back of my left boot tore open. This pair did last longer than the past few pairs. As of Oct. 26th the tear has not gotten any bigger. I was camping when it tore. During my camping trip I put my feet near the fire to warm up and the side of the bood melted. I did not have my feet in the fire only next to it and it was a small cooking fire. See pictures for more. I still really love these boots! Would love it if the manufacturer would use a mesh inside the rubber that keeps tearing as thus would limit how far it could stretch and likely prevent the tear from happening. Update: April 11th 2020. The boots went on sale 50% off so I bought two pair back on the 22nd of December 2019. Started wearing them about a week later. I am on my 4th month of use and no real problems yet. The next two months will tell if these are going to last longer than any others. Hope these updates are helping people. Update: Aug. 28th 2019. I really am loving these boots though it looks like I am just lucky and the rubber on back of the right boot keeps ripping open starting at the seam. I get about 4 to 6 months before the rubber gives way. The solution would be to add a fabric mesh inside the rubber durring production. Even with this dilemma I plan on buying these boots again. Feb. 5th 2019 Update: Swear I added an update about the damage to the back of the boot. Anyway, even though the laces broke in less than six months (laces brake, thats okay) and the rubber on the back of the boots broke open in less than three months I ordered another set and got them today. My hopes are that my lest set were just part of a bad production run. I will update this again when something happens to the new ones. Mar. 31st 2019 Update: I deleted some useless stuff in this review to make room for more useful info. SIZE: I wear size 14 for all my footwear and these are no exception. I ordered size 14, got size 14, and they fit perfectly. ZIPPER: Once you tie them (if you like your boots tight like me) using only the zipper to take them off is fine but basically impossible for putting the boots back on. LACES: To help me stay awake when driving I don't wear shoes. Because I work in the oil fields my boots go on and off many times throughout the day. I dont like lacing up my boots and I dont like boots cut below the ankle so lacing up is how it goes. We all know laces brake regularly and because my last pair of these boots laces didnt last even 2 months, I updates to bungee cord coyote brown 1/8" x 8' with a 1/8" cord lock and cut to length. See attached image BUNGEE: My last pair felt wider than my new pair though bungee cord made them more snug. The bungee also allows for more flexibility and easy on and off by use of the zipper alone. Refer to pictures for the lacing. Also notice that they are laced through the holes from the out side in, this helps keep them tight. I previously laced from the in side out and couldn't keep the boots snug, the bungee kept getting lose. Feed extra lace down to toes between tung and laces.

Update after 6 years of wearing these every single day (yes they are the only shoe i wear for work and home). Rating: WAS 5/5 years ago, now 2/5. Good: These are still comfortable (way better than any "work" boot i've had, more comfortable than most sneakers). They go on and off quickly due to side zips (I really dislike tying laces). Safety toe for work requirements. They look cool. Bad: I only get about 1 year of use out of them, but that is wearing them everyday. After a year the sole is worn down, and the inner fabric is torn so badly they wont come off my foot. I feel like they should last a LOT longer. These used to be made in the USA, now made in CHINA. Most recent pair has some sharp edges that are hurting me, unlike past pairs I've had. Also dont think zippers are YKK anymore, they are some off brand. What a shame, these used to be great boots, they took a fantastic boot and cheapened it out so much its no longer worth it. I wear a 10.5 sneaker, ordered a 10 and I think it is still just a tad too big. A 9.5 probably would have been a better fit but the 10 is very close. Keep in mind there are two versions of this boot, the regular one, and the Gore-Tex waterproof one. The Gore-Tex are 100% waterproof but they can get hot, especially in the summer. The non waterproof boots stay "fairly" cool, even in GA summers, no they aren't flip flops, but they do well especially for safety toe boots.

I almost didn’t buy these ( or should I say , I almost returned ). I had ordered these already but I had asked a question that didn’t receive an answer until after I ordered . This gentleman said that they would be really hard to put on . I don’t like to fight with my footwear so I immediately was regretting this purchase . At this price , I tried to cancel the order . It was too late !! They had already shipped . Well Thank God they arrived and I didn’t cancel . I love these boots ( so far ). I had zero issues putting them on . I unzipped the sides , gave the laces some extra slack , and viola !! New Boots !! After I wore for a few hours , I unzipped the boots , keeping laces tied , and they came off no problem . Then back on again . I’m sure that will only get easier the longer I wear these . They fit and feel great ! I was also hesitant about the steel toe . I thought that would make them heavier and a nuisance like some other steel toed boots I’ve had in the past . NOPE !! Not a problem . Matter of fact ?? I forgot they were steel toed altogether haha . I wonder if anyone in the military are wearing these ???? I don’t see why not . I love the coyote color by the way . I tried to take photos of what they look like with a pair of jeans . Indoor and outdoor photos included to give you better perspective. These look great with my Jeans ! And they look great with my camo’s and olive green BDU’s too . So again - They are very comfortable and they look great . OH !! I also purchased a pair of Thorlos Extended Field Ops Combat Boot Socks to wear with these . My feet couldn’t be happier haha . I will do a later update to let you how they are holding up . For now ?? So far - So Awesone !!

I wear a 10.5 US in Nike Free Run running shoes, and needed 11.5 US in these boots to get a good fit across the bridge of my foot, immediately behind the toes. They said 3E, but came in extra wide. A true 3E probably would have been fine in a 10.5. This is the fifth pair of Bates I have owned and they're great boots. For work I wore the Bates Ultra-lights in black 5 inch zip up and they were great, but after a year the heel was worn down and my feet were rolling to the outside of the foot bed. Pretty good life for a 325 pound guys work boots. I wanted to try these out because they apear to have a better arch. After wearing them for a month I'm pretty sure the tread will last a bit longer and the arch support is slightly better. My only complaints are that they don't come in a 5 inch side zip, or even better, a low cut shoe. The 8 inch are fine, but your feet can get pretty hot during the summer. And you'll want to find your favorite aftermarket, Dr. Scholls, etc. inserts to replace the thin, cheap ones that come with them. The composite toe is great, and is so much more comfortable after a 12 hour shift. It seems to be able to accommodate wide feet better than steel toes as well.

---UPDATE2--- Zipper has completely unraveled. The boot is no longer wearable. Less than one year, light use. Can't warranty return because I don't have a backup pair or 200 bucks to get one. And still, no one else makes a composite toe side zip. ---UPDATED--- Zipper is ripping away from fabric, defeating it's waterproof designs entirely. Through no fault of the selller, the only way to RMA is to send these, and since I need them for work, I have to buy another pair (of something else, mind you) while they decide if this defect is somehow my fault. A.T.A.C. please bring the WP SZ back for the 2.0. That zipper and structure was solid for over three years without a single failure. I only switched when I literally had holes in the soles. These are garbage. Six months, light to moderate use and falling apart. Thing to improve: Doubling (or tripling) the seams up. Prevent rips, and improve seal. Thick tooth zippers. These will NOT bind up, will not WEAR AWAY, and aren't round, so they don't FLATTEN, if dinged. Velcro zipper cover could be a magnet, and if not could have Velcro that doesn't wear out in six months, again, see A.T.A.C. Things that are great: Sole/ path of travel is great, very comfortable to walk in, even in stock insoles. Looks fine. Plenty of entry space when unzipped. Laces haven't ever come undone. I thank the oblong design. A.T.A.C always did, due to rounded laces. Bad choice on that part for A.T.A.C. I'm active duty military, work partly on the flight line, partly in the hospital. So light to moderate duty at worst. These are not durable enough for military use. If I can destroy them in six months, a flight line maintainer is going to chew through them in less than two, and forget taking them downrange. ---- Short version. Super comfy, stylish, not too heavy, not too hot here in Tampa. Suede is far too weak, already sporting many many scuff and gouges. Zipper works but can jam. A thicker type would be better, see A.T.A.C. 1.0. Would buy again but hope to see a minor revision with improvement.
