    • Unique source for WWII Navy Optical Equipment
I bought this book because I purchase and restore WWII vintage sextants, stadimeters, etc. It's perfect for that purpose. The first half of the book covers basic optical principles which I already knew - I wouldn't recommend the book just for that purpose although I'm sure it's coverage is adequate. The second half goes into detail and maintenance and repair of telescopes, binoculars, alidades, sextants, stadimeters, magnetic compasses, boresight and gunsight telescopes. Lots of parts diagrams and detailed disassembly/assembly instructions. I am unaware of any other source for this level of detailed information. One caution regarding this book. I purchased the 1966 (original) edition and WWII ships and their optical instruments were still in wide usage at that time. Later editions might reference more up to date equipment. But that's only a concern if you are focused (no pun intended) on WWII vintage equipment, as I am. ... show more
