No. Prior to 2018, the measuring range of the pressure gauge was 0-14.5PSI which equals 29.25inHg/0.1Mpa/750mmHg, so the only difference is in the way the readings are done. I was a little worried about buying this for my resin projects. Seems some of the reviews are hit and miss. I took it out of the box, put in the oil and pulled a vacuum. What you see on the dial in the picture is what it stayed at for the whole time for 24 hours! Never moved. I know I have a good seal and the pump is working. A couple of things... 1) It came with a filter (see picture) but the manual doesn't mention where this is supposed to go. FYI the manual is pretty good for the most part. 2) Came with oil and the whole bottle filled it to about the middle of the min and max marks but when it was pulling a vacuum I could see either a mist or a bit of smoke coming from the top of the fill cap. Not sure this is normal but it still pulled a vacuum. 3) There is a thin mat that comes with it (see picture) but again I have no idea what this is used for. 4) The gauge and valve mount are a bit flimsy as it just goes thru the side of the pot and then a nut holds it on. I had to crank mine down a bit to secure it. They do give you extra rubber washers (seals) so if they are damaged you can replace them. All in all it looks well made and works. This worked really well for vacuuming silicone molding material before pouring. Because of the other reviews, I did use it outdoors, but I didn't detect any spewing of oil into the air. I did purchase non-misting vacuum pump oil to go with it. The directions that come with it aren't great, but I was able to figure it out, in particular, where the air filter was supposed to go on the air intake valve. It's important to open and close the valves in the proper order, and to practice first before you mix up your solution and turn on the pump. 1. Close air intake valve. Open vacuum pump valve. 2. Turn on pump until the needle stops moving. 3. Close vacuum pump valve. 4. Turn off pump. 5. Wait. Chamber maintains the vacuum. 6. Open air intake valve. 7. Repeat as needed. "Close" in this case means, "turn the valve handle toward you, at 90 degrees to the pot" and "open" means "turn it 90 degrees in the other direction, parallel to the hose." ... show more

Used to seal jars, works well. The glass lid is heavy and seals will. Does not to be held down to get a seal. the gauge valve block is mounted to high should be below the rim to prevent the gauge getting bumped with the lid or when loading. The block rotates to easily. The vacuum pump seems to work well. The De-mister is not the most efficient. I wanted to up grade the De-mister but I could not find a match to the thread used. ... show more

I am of the mindset mistakes happen, but having 3 easy to spot manufacturing errors happen at once is just silly. When I found the pump I ordered was missing the gauge and glass that keeps the oil from spilling out I chalked it up to just a freak mistake. I contacted the seller and after a few days got a response and they issued me a $90 return to buy new pump locally (or they offered to replace it with a new but weaker airpump). I felt like I was loosing some money but was easier then mailing back everything, besides I really loved the design of the tank and the lid, looked very nice. After getting the new pump I hooked it in and realize the entire setup for tank free rotates with no way to safely tighten the nut (seller advised againts it). Also the air release/intake handles were put on backwards so they hit the tank when you try to open them. While on most things I would grin and bare it and try to make this work, this is a tank that could implode if it was faulty so didn't take the risk and refunded whole thing. In short, 3 different manufacturing errors (one of them being completely detrimental). The only good part about this was how nice the tank itself and lid looked and how friendly (but on script) the sellers were. But sellers took about 3 days for each reply which made communication unpleasant. I almost reaordered a new one cause what were the chances of having more defects, but I was too spooked too. Let me start by saying that I tend to take horrible reviews on products like this with a hefty nugget of salt. I completely understand than any product has a chance to arrive in faulty condition in some way, and people love to freak out. With that said, I'll assume that the horrible reviews hovering around must have either received a bad item (....just return it. Amazon makes it a cakewalk to do so. These things happen.) or the purchaser didn't read the instructions. -The pump is more quiet than I expected, always a plus! -I haven't really pushed it to it's limit, but the pump achieved -25mmhg in less than a half-minute. The instructions clearly state not to leave the pump running any longer than necessary after the vacuum levels off (needle stops falling). At -25mmhg my rate of pressure change had slowed rapidly to a crawl, so I saw no sense to push the 3 minute limit "stalling out" so-to-say outlined in the manual. -Some reviews mention having to hold the lid for a moment to get the seal going. I've had no such issue. Make sure the gasket is clean and free of debris and it seals itself immediately. -I've seen mention of the pump spewing oil and/or oil vapors, as well as backflow bringing pump oil into the vacuum chamber. These issues are both clearly outlined in the manual, and how to prevent them. If you run your pump until it's screaming, or try to use it outside of its rated abilities, it's going to start smoking oil. If you open the valves in an incorrect fashion or order, and the pump-side of the system is higher pressure than the vacuum chamber....oil is going to backflow. It's physics. -yes, you may need to tighten the connections on first opening, as with any plumbing component. -Ive seen confusion as to where the small plastic filter goes. I will admit, the manual is a bit vague here. I'll let this lead into my final point that encompasses most issues I've seen: This isn't a toy...it's a piece of what I would consider specialized scientific equipment. In my opinion, if you're looking to buy one of these, you should probably know the theory behind it's use. The instructions for these types of products aren't written to hold your hand. Even with the rough translations all the info is there for you. Sorry, I'm a grump. Oh ya, that little filter I mentioned: It goes the only place it possibly fits, and if you think about it, do you want to pull debris into whatever you're de-gassing when you equalize? No. I hope this helps any skeptics. I'll be sure to update my review if I somehow blow this up or it implodes or something. *pic is several hours later holding vacuum right where I left it* ... show more

We use our chamber for vacuuming out bubbles from resin mixtures. It does exactly what it's supposed to with no complaints, but it did require some initial troubleshooting. There were a few helpful tutorials for this model I found on Youtube. Here's What you need to do: 1. There's a black rubber gasket on the top of the gauge. In order to properly adjust to your local atmospheric pressure it needs a small hole poked in the gasket. I used a small exacto blade. Be very careful when doing this. The gasket can easily slip into the gauge and it will be unrecoverable. 2. Push down firmly on the lid when starting the pump. I hold it until it the gauge reaches 2.5, at which point it will keep climbing to 30 on its own. We put the pump on a styrofoam block with foam underneath. This really helps dull down the pump noise since we use it indoors. The pump spews out so much oil vapor so we attached a clear hose to exhaust it out a window. It works like a charm. Overall it's a great kit for the price. We use it at least twice daily and it's been running strong for about 6 months. At the price point it made its money back long ago. We'll keep changing the oil regularly and hope it lasts. ... show more

Product was well packaged and arrived undamaged. All documentation was present in packaging. Setup was easy requiring only open end wrench to align and tighten gauge/valve package mounting nut on inside of chamber. Glass top and top seal were clean and defect free. Stainless steel tub sealing surface was smooth without dents or scratches. Included hose has tool-free brass connectors w/gasketing. Easy and quick to install/remove. Hose has sufficient length. Liquid filled vacuum gauge was easy to equalize for ambient pressure prior to use with vacuum pump. Equalizing insures proper vacuum chamber readings. Vacuum pump was easy to fill with oil and initial startup was uneventful. Vacuum of 29.5 in.Hg obtained in <3 minutes. Chamber valves were closed, pump shut off and hose disconnected from chamber. Vacuum still at 29.5 in.Hg after 2+ hours. Impressive for a single stage pump. Would recommend to any other customer. ... show more

The vacuum pump works great. This is my first vacuum chamber and pump and one thing I could tell is that the materials were excellent. Everything came well packaged. The pump and the chamber themselves seem to be high quality. The instructions were decent? You can tell the instructions are written in China, like they’re trying their best with English but it’s still a little off, and missing some key bits, like adding the correct gasket to the outlet filter and like you know....how to operate it...lol. Also it’s saying to look at the lines on the pump for the oil level, but this one doesn’t have any lines just a min and max mark, but some of their other models do have lines. They’re still slacking a little, but China seems to be stepping up their overall quality. Also they’re online videos are not the best. While the instructions were not the best for a newb to be fair it’s not rocket science. Pour the bottle of oil in the pump, hook up the hose (in case common sense is not your strong suit) Close the outlet, open the inlet, turn the pump on, watch the gauge go all the way to the left in about a minute, close the inlet, then turn off the pump. Open the outlet when you’re done to let the air back in. Simple and it works. No issues for me. I mean it was easy.
