  • Excellent Playhouse for Toddlers, Preschoolers
Assembling this playhouse requires some organization, but is definitely feasible for two adults, one drill, and a little patience. Be prepared to make some basic modifications to meet your specific needs. For example, the windows, particularly the back window, present a probable fall hazard. It's heavy, so build it where you plan to keep it. We built ours for inside play, removed the front ladder and secured the opening with a 15" x 15" mesh cargo net: PowerTye 50153 Blue 15"X15" Cargo Net featuring 6 Adjustable Hooks & Tight 2"x2" Mesh. We have a small home with vaulted ceilings in the living room, so we purchased this playhouse to maximize space for our little one. We added a bookshelf and floor pillows underneath to make a cozy reading den. We also added some toy storage under the stairs. Purchased for my sons second birthday, we expect to get around three years of play out of it. Then we'll probably reassemble it outside and convert it to a chicken coop. A few notes: The playhouse parts arrived in two large, heavy boxes; approximately 200lbs each. We had the boxes laid on the floor of the garage, then sorted all of the boards and pieces in the order of the assembly steps. This made it easy to collect the pieces for a few steps at a time and bring them into the house. The dining table became hardware central. This made fast work of a potentially complicated process. Most of the boards were clearly labeled, with one or two that we had to identify by comparison to other boards. Surprisingly, the two toy storage boxes were the most inconvenient to assemble, and too small to be very useful. Overall, we were impressed with the quality of the wood and hardware, and our house had a fresh cedar smell for a couple weeks after building it. ... show more

  • kids love it, had some minor difficulty putting it together
I bought this for my grandkids (ages 6 and 8) when they moved from their condo to a new house with a yard. They love it and cannot stop playing in it. It has a fake sink and stove so they made up restaurant signs and menus to pretend it is a restaurant. They hand plastic plates of plastic food out the window. They eat their own real lunch sitting on the bench inside and the floor. It took two of us all day (about 12 hours) to put it together. We did have a couple of minor problems but it went together fairly easily following the detailed instructions. The most significant issue was the stair stringers are made of two pieces each, a straight piece and a notched piece that were screwed together at the factory. I do not know whether it is a manufacturing issue or a design issue but the screws holding the pieces together were exactly where the holes in the steps for screwing the steps to the stringer. This caused a bit of a delay because we did not know if we did something wrong so we scoured the directions to verify our work to that point. In the end we just drilled new holes in the steps and kick boards so they would not be obstructed by the stringer screws. It is still sturdy and not seriously noticeable and the kids do not care at all. ... show more

  • Kids love it
We replaced the front ladder with a slide (greatest decision ever) and I have no real complaints. I specifically loved this because of the stairs and it is easy for my 4 year old and my 1 year old to get up and down. It was missing a piece in the box and the company sent us a replacement immediately. It took a few days to get up with my husband and I building. The walls were a little difficult to place but otherwise it went relatively smooth. Update: Almost three years later and the review holds strong. other then some weather fading the swing set is in great shape. One of the doors came off but, it's because my kids abused it. We plan to get some new brackets from the store. Still one of the best investments to date. ... show more

  • It is "meh" but the kids like it.
My wife and I purchased this unit for our daughters to play in as a compromise to me not taking 16 years to build a play house from scratch. We decided on this unit based on some of the previous reviews, the general aesthetic and claimed quality of the unit from other purchasers. The Pros: The instructions were relatively clear and straight forward. I found that I was easily able to follow the step-by-step guide provided by the manufacturer. The unit looks as advertised in the photos and overall the build experience went smoothly minus a few bumps which caused tons of frustration which will be outlined below. The kids like it. Let's face it, I'm not the one that's going to be out there playing on it and my daughters both love it so far so at least that saves it from receiving a lower grade than 3 stars. Hardware was decent. It was nice that the required Torx bits came in both L-handle and drill driver versions to make assembly quicker. I have my own set of impact bits for my driver so I didn't need to use them for the most part, but it was really nice they were included (especially the driver bits as that was a surprise). I found that aside from a pack of screws mentioned below everything else was present and clearly labeled so I was not confused as to which pieces to use when. Many of the packages came with an extra piece as well in case one was lost or damaged along the way. The Cons: Material choice. The Chinese Cedar used for this design is not nearly as strong as a Western Red Cedar that you would get from a lumber supplier nor the treated lumber that I could buy from a local big box store to construct a solution from scratch. I am a heavier dad at 270+ and I was very nervous being on the structure at times during assembly. Luckily my daughters and wife are healthy weights and I don't fret about them being on there together. If I were building this from scratch, the base would have been constructed out of 2" material instead of the measly 1/2" that it feels like the manufacturer went with. The boards themselves seem sturdy enough for kids, but if we had 4 or 5 kids on there, it might get a little worrisome. I will probably be doing some modifications in the future. Check your parts inventory before assembly!! I have NEVER had an assemble-yourself product from any other manufacturer which had missing/incorrect parts included in the box. The website is easy enough to get to and register your product to request missing/damaged parts, but I had to do this three times over the course of the build. For the small house on the platform I was sent two right-handed pieces for the front instead of a right and a left. The same thing also happened with the saloon doors. I was also missing a bag of #8 x 1-1/2 screws which I luckily had some galvanized wood screws to substitute. I had to make multiple requests to the manufacturer through their website https://service.backyarddiscovery.com in order to get the correct parts for the unit, but the delays were infuriating as I was expecting assembly to be completed rather quickly over the course of a weekend and instead the unit is still not 100% completed as I only just receive the final piece after weeks of waiting and wondering if customer service was actually even doing anything with my requests. As someone who prefers to design/build my own solutions for projects around the house, I really wanted to build from scratch to have a playhouse for my daughters. I compromised with my spouse as building projects from scratch can take a while. I sure do wish I would have just scratch-built this solution instead. ... show more

  • Backyard Fun
This beautiful wood playhouse is a testament to creativity and imagination. With a few modifications, such as adding a slide to the front, it has become an even more exciting space for young children to explore. The quality of the materials is impressive, and it has held up well over the years, enduring the challenging weather conditions of Minnesota. It's perfect for children between the ages of 18 months and five years, and the cool play area underneath can also be used as a sandbox. The inside of the play structure includes a kitchen set and bench seat with vibrant striping colors, offering a fun and engaging space for children to play and learn. Overall, this playhouse is a wonderful addition to any backyard and a great way to spark children's creativity and imagination. ... show more

  • Great playhouse!
First, this took forever to build. We had four grown adults and it still took us about 10 hours split over two days. Second, if you don’t have one, borrow or buy a good hammer drill. We borrowed my dads Milwaukee. Our little Ryobi couldn’t handle the build. Third, download the BILT app. The instructions that come in the package SUCK. Overall, great quality. I had to test the structure and I’m 170 lbs. It held me no problem. We added a wave slide that we also purchased from Amazon. We also decided not to add the door and turned the handles to the inside so my son could grip them when he slides down. The delivery was early and the person was very polite and helpful. The stairs are perfect for our young son. However, the windows on the sides have no railing to stop a child from falling out of them. That part was too dangerous for me so I went to Lowe’s and got some garden fencing. I cut it to size and drilled it on either window. This way my son won’t fall out of it either by accident or on purpose. I’d buy this item again. ... show more

  • Ugh no good at all
So wood is very soft, but not in a good way. It cracks VERY easily, crappy quality, the size (its SMALL way smaller than the pictures make it look. It's a good size for toddlers to maybe age 5 but beyond that...forget it. The windows are not safe, they created an elevated playset that sits 5ft up and don't have any safety features to prevent a child from falling out of the windows. It looks nice set up but again....very cheap product that won't last long at all. I'm so disappointed in this and should return it but don't want to have to take it all apart to do that...but I will if I have too. 😪 ... show more

  • Decent. Satisfied with it for the price.
3 YO and 1 YO enjoy it. Took me 10 hours by myself. A helper would be nice to gather all the pieces for each step. Lots of bolts, washers, screws, etc. and pieces are in different boxes. Keep that packing list handy. Sometimes the same piece was split into different boxes. Pay attention to the pre drilled hole orientation during each step. Luckily I messed one up but it was easily screwed into and not a bolt. Like many we put the slide on it. There’s holes there already for the stairs so we bolted on another piece of wood on the front and screwed the slide to that more substantial area. I recommend weather treating right away. 3 days in the Texas heat and rain made the wood look beat up. So we put some clear oil based weather seal on it. Looks fine and seems to be holding up now with the recent rain and sun. Wood doesn’t look to be drying out, splitting, flaking, etc. It’s perfect for our kids now and the size of our yard. Our yard isn’t exactly level so built it on the patio and then moved the bottom section then the house section so it would at least start out square. We’ll see how it holds up. Have a birthday party next weekend with plenty of kids. May need to add a couple extra floor supports but I’ll see if those show signs of cracking. ... show more
