  • Excellent gift!
This is a fantastic musical toy. Generally speaking I don't allow toys with batteries in my house, but I decided to give this a shot. It is great. The music is actual music, not super obnoxious "kids music." So far the only sound that has gotten on my nerves is the flute. The songs are mostly kid songs like Pop Goes the Weasel and Twinkle Twinkle with a few classical pieces thrown in. But again the way they are played is very pretty. My son, 3.5 has really enjoyed trying out different instruments and then will grab his rhythm sticks and dance around. We have dance parties where we do fast or slow dances based on the tempo of the music playing. You can adjust the tempo but he hasn't really figured that out yet. There is plenty to keep him occupied for now as well as different things for him to learn as he gets a little older like the difference between wind and percussion instruments. The pieces will fit in the top or store inside a compartment in the back. My son needs help making them fit in the storage part and the door for it seems a bit flimsy. The shape sorting aspect on top is a little advanced, and therefore not ideal. Even I have to turn the pieces over to see exactly how it should go. However I would gift this without hesitation. My son has enjoyed it and every adult who has seen it also wants a turn playing with it. That tells me it will be used for quite some time, assuming it holds up. At the moment I don't see any reason it wouldn't. ... show more

  • This is the most played-with toy from my 4-year-old’s birthday
I got this for my 4-year-old’s birthday, and she loves it. She plays with it for long periods, as does her 7-year-old brother. It’s so cool to add and remove instruments, to see how the different melody instruments sound for the different songs, to put in just accompaniments and see if you can guess the song. It’s a nice mix of kid songs and classical. Very high quality toy. I saw some reviewers said theirs came with only 7 instruments, but ours came with all 13. I like that there’s some volume control, so it doesn’t have to be super loud. Edited to add: months later, both kids still play with this toy often. And as an adult, I appreciate that the quality of the music is better (non-irritating) compared to many toys. If they play a symphony piece, it goes all the way through the whole movement and ends naturally, rather than stopping abruptly in the middle like so many toys do. The dog did chew up the tuba a bit, but miraculously it still works. Wonderful toy! ... show more

  • Durable
Great toy. Given the price, might want to make sure the little one is into music before investing in it as a gift, but I work in a clinic and it is a durable little toy that some kids just love.

  • A very unique toy!
The adults in our house like it as much as the babies. The pieces are different instruments in an orchestra. They add and subtract the sound of the instrument to a nice variety of songs that play on the machine. Super clever! Babies can safely chew on the pieces and they can be washed! My 10 year old nephew loved it as much as his 8 month old cousin! ... show more

  • Great music education toy for children!
The media could not be loaded. Purchased this for my boyfriend‘s nephew as a birthday gift. When it arrived it was packaged very well and everything looked intact. The demo button didn’t work so I opened it up and had to insert six new AA batteries. Once the new batteries were inserted it worked wonderfully! It was fun to play around with it as an adult and can’t wait for the birthday boy to get a chance to play with it. All in all a great purchase. ... show more

  • Great Musical Toy!
My great niece is 10 months old. Unusually she already has taught herself to crawl over and play bongo drums and also reacts very strongly to any music by dancing perfectly to the rhythm. I bought this toy for her and she absolutely loved it! Yes, I know: she’s only 10 months old, but like I said, she is advanced for her age… ... show more

  • Intuitive, Super Fun, Thoughtful Storage
Very attractive and well thought out toy. I bought this for my daughter for Christmas because I secretly wanted to play with it (my daughter is only 9 months old). She has three older sibs who will all enjoy it too but I’ll update my review after Christmas with that info. Well thought out- lights up to show you which instruments play accompaniment and which play melody. Adjusts with each song because it changes. Lights also show which instruments belong to each family (brass, percussion, etc). The storage compartment in back is genius and easily fits all the instruments. The clear shell allows you to see the inner workings- pretty neat for older/techy kids. The volume control is a plus for adults and the song choice is decent. I loved that you don’t have to have the instruments in their “home base” in order for it to work- the baby knocks them out but it doesn’t matter. The only thing that affects music is placing instruments in the pit. I’m 35 and I have fun playing with this toy! The two things that felt “meh” were: 1- The selection of songs is good but I’d like even more or a way to add more. The songs will most likely get old after a while. In my opinion, not a reason to not buy though! 2- The “Tempo” feature does speed up/slow down the song but it also simultaneously changes the pitch of the instruments (remember the Yak Bak?). So for those a little more picky about semantics, the “tempo” feature might be annoying. However, I think the kids will actually like it. Again, not a reason to not buy. This toy is amazingly fun, attractive, intuitive, and seemingly well built, so absolutely worth the cost. Another plus is that the plastic molded packaging is recyclable. We’ll see what my kids think on Christmas and I’ll be curious to see how long the batteries last. ... show more
