  • Good, but not great.
Charges my phone pretty slowly when not using a USB cord (I bought it because I didn’t want to need a USB cord to charge it). If I charge it from 20% while I get ready in the morning, it’s not fully charged an hour later. The sound seems decent. Hard to adjust the volume, though.

  • Adequate; buttons and bluetooth could be improved
I ordered the Azpen D100, and received the Azpen D108, a slightly more expensive model that has a 10 watt charger instead of a 5 watt charger. I ordered the D100 because reviews indicated it was more forgiving of phone cases than the D108. However, the D108 has no problem with my Otterbox case. Pairing was simple, and the sound quality is as better than the dock I was using previously, and much better than the phone's own speakers. I have two complaints. The unit's control buttons (pause/play, skip, volume controls) aren't really buttons but just touch-sensitive spots on the unit's case. Adjusting the volume using them is a pain because one tap changes the volume by a very small amount and it won't let you tap very quickly. It's usually easier to pick up the phone and adjust the volume using the phone's controls. Pairing was easy, but making the bluetooth connection is hit or miss: this morning my phone started charging normally when I put it in place, but the bluetooth connection didn't kick until I turned the dock off and then on again. (Yes, the dock has a hard on/off button, on the back.) Once I did that, it connected immediately. In a nutshell, it's working adequately; but could use some serious improvements. I'd probably buy something different next time. ... show more

  • Sounds good. But BT can be finicky.
Sound is good for its size and what it is. Clear enough and loud enough. Bluetooth is finicky. Sometimes it connects quickly and other times you need to turn off and back on. It’s only a couple secs and not hard to do. Just a minor annoyance mainly because I kept trying to get it to connect other ways. Turn off then on. It’ll connect immediately. ... show more

  • I love the design and functionality, I so wish it worked with iPhones
It turns out that I needed to read the description better and notice that iPhone compatibility was missing. I returned and ordered a 2nd one because I loved the design and the front controls so much. That's when I called customer service to troubleshoot and found it was my iPhone. Amazon told me that, but the product customer service I called didn't. It would pair. The big downside is that my phone would only charge if I plugged it into the back with a charging cable. That's kind of defeats the purpose of the product. I wanted to stream music through better speakers without my phone going dead. But again the look, front controls, and the sound quality almost won the day. I ended up going with another product, but I will be on the lookout in hopes this one becomes compatible with iPhones. Amazon was great about again letting me return something when the error was mine. If you have an android, this product is amazing. ... show more

  • Not good for a bedside
Not one to often write a review, but felt the need put some warning on this. I’ll start by saying that the construction and materials feel and look nice, and the sound out of it was great, clear and fairly rich for its size… but that’s about as far as I can go with the pros on this. I’ll start with the sync, it connects with my phone with no issue, but then when ever I open an app there is a repeating low, barely audible, almost heartbeat like noise coming out of it. Won’t happen when the phone is off or just open, but as soon as I open an app… doesn’t seem to matter which one, it’s there. I’ll just quickly interject here to highlight, my main purpose for purchasing this was to function with my phone as a bedside alarm clock, wanting something to put out a nice clear music when my alarm goes off. I use a CPAP, so the having a little more oomph than a phone speaker is needed, and honestly, the white noise of my CPAP drowns out the azpen heartbeat as I’m going to sleep; but that quiet time before I go to sleep, when I’m reading… or writing a product review is annoying. Continuing on, the speaker volume… whenever I connect my phone to it, it seem to default to a ridiculously high volume… high enough that I worry it will actually blow its own speaker. I’ve tried putting in some automations on my phone to counter this, but seems to limited effect. I’ve had some success with automations on the volume control for when I open my alarm app, and when my alarm first goes off, it does so at my set level… but if I hit snooze, it than defaults back. Even seems to be an issue just when I play music… starts fine, but if I pause, close, go back in again… the volume just defaults back. This leads to my next issue, the volume control… seems the ‘touch’ control for the volume buttons are not very sensitive. I have maybe a 10% success rate with the volume buttons touch response. That is to say for every 10 times I touch the control, it with adjust the volume once… not at all appreciated when the default volume causes the speakers to crackle. Despite searching the limited manual literature for this and through the few online forums/reviews I can find, I haven’t had any success in finding resolutions to these issues. I also haven’t ventured too much further with any other functions these speakers may offer, as I’m not that inclined too, seeing this as now a… short term solution for my need while I explore further non azpen products that may match my purpose. ... show more
