This is NOT a "chalkboard" label. Chalkboard labels have that chalkboard feel; they're smooth but not shiny. I've purchased chalkboard labels from Avery and other brands. So I was really surprised when I received this label and it was bumpy (like asphalt) and shiny. It bothered me because it didn't match my other jars (all with Avery chalkboard labels purchased about 2 years ago). Nonetheless I used it and wrote the name of the spice on the label with an indelible marker. After about 2 weeks of handling the jar the name rubbed off! I looked at the label packaging just to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong and it said "erasable" on it. Um...what?! A label that you can erase?? What's the point?! So I went onto the Avery website and found that it was the only chalkboard label they had, which left me to conclude that they had changed their label at some point. So I all over Amazon, all over Michael's Crafts, all over Hobby Lobby and anywhere else I could think of, and all of them had the same label: "erasable". It was so strange, at some point the entire industry stopped making the chalkboard labels I used to buy. So I gave this item only 1 star because it's NOT chalkboard and it's "erasable" quality means that if you handle the item the label is on on a regular bases, the writing is going to come off. ... show more

I have two different brands of chalk markers that I have tried with this product. Both brands up and do not dry. Am I suppose to be using a special dork of marker? Maybe a paint pen?
