Description

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! In this moving narrative of resilience and pure love, three mothers share their experiences and learnings about life alongside autism -- From the creators of Finding Cooper's Voice, What Color is Monday?, and Tales of an Educated Debutante Kate Swenson, Adrian Wood and Carrie Cariello are from different parts of the country and backgrounds, but they were brought together by a singular experience: they are each a mother to a child with autism. Together they have shared laughter, tears, victories and the unconditional love that molds their lives. Kate, Adrian and Carrie have children with very different autism profiles, and in Autism Out Loud they write about their unique experiences on a variety of topics, from diagnosis to caregiving, schooling and aging. Through their varied stories and lessons they’ve learned, these incredible women provide a glimpse of what to expect on the autism journey and show parents that they are not alone. Written with honesty and heart, the stories within these pages serve as a reminder that even amid the storms of life, there is always hope and beauty to be found. A tribute to the unparalleled love of mothers, this inspiring book illuminates the joys, challenges and everyday miracles of life on the spectrum. Read more

  • A fabulous Autism book everyone needs to read
Format: Hardcover
Autism Out Loud is the book I always needed ! This is the book that helps me navigate the most challenging days through endless meltdowns and sleepless nights. This is the book that reminds me I am not alone. This book helped me make sense of a world that suddenly felt new and, at times, overwhelming. It’s not just for parents. It’s for family members, friends, teachers—anyone who wants to better understand and support someone with autism. The book is divided into chapters that can stand on their own, such as diagnosis day, siblings, marriage, grief, and the question autism parents get asked over and over: What kind of autism is it? Three moms, each raising a son with autism, came together to write the book they needed when their sons were diagnosed with autism. The result is a touching, funny, and heartfelt guide that offers wisdom, comfort, and understanding. If you love someone with autism or want to understand autism better, this book is for you. 💙 Thank you Kate, Carrie, and Adrian for writing this amazing book💗 ... show more

  • A Must Read and Listen!
Format: Hardcover
Wow! I do not have an autistic child, however oldest son does have BP/Anxiety. How I wish this book was around 20 years ago while navigating school, social situations, etc. Three incredible mothers - resilient, compassionate, wise and who are fierce advocates for all children. They will become your best friends! A must read for everyone - teachers, physicians, therapists. You will find yourself rereading! I purchased the audible as well - to hear these moms read their words is powerful, full of compassion, resilience and determination. The community is inclusive to anyone who is navigating the world of neurodiversity, parenthood and the isolation parents feel at times. Well done and thank you for sharing! ... show more

  • Relatable, Honest, Powerful…A Journey of love!
Format: Hardcover
Spot on! A read for everyone. Because I have a son with Autism I could relate to so many points that these three beautiful woman shared. The book is beneficial for families and caregivers as well as the general public. It makes you stop and think about love, hope, joy and a world filled with kindness, inclusion, patience and acceptance. Autism is not a “one size fits all” diagnosis. The authors do a great job in conveying this message. I just ordered copies to gift to people I thought would embrace reading it. Thank you for sharing your stories! ... show more

  • A must read for those caring for, educating, or parenting children neurodivergent and neurotypical.
Format: Hardcover
I have been a subscriber of Adrian Wood for several years on Facebook. I do not have a child with autism but I am a mother and I found the book educational and so well written. The love and caring these three women show both their autistic and neurotypical children is so relatable. It reminds me to raise my own children kind and non judgmental, to embrace those in society that do not fit the social norms and no matter what your parenting challenges are there is joy to be found. Congratulations on you success with this beautiful book ladies! A must read for all. ... show more

  • Everybody would benefit from reading Autism Out Loud
Format: Kindle
Buying this book is like receiving three books for the price of one. There are three authors with three completely different stories about their sons on the autistic spectrum. This book is not just for people with autism in their families. I have personally been places, and experienced children and adults displaying behaviors that I simply did not understand. After reading this book, I have a much better perception of how people on the spectrum may behave differently than what is considered "normal." These authors have poured their hearts into allowing us to have a glimpse into their worlds of raising their neurodiverse children. Their children are every bit as lovable as their neurotypical children. They can be smart, happy, loving, stubborn, clingy, funny and have the same characteristics as their neurotypical siblings. The authors have written how having a child with autism in the family changes the entire family's ability to function in every day life. For instance, they cannot all decide to go to dinner and a movie. There is much more planning that the family must tackle before they can go out into the community. I give a great deal of respect to all of these families. I have learned so much about autism by reading this book. This is such a great read for anybody wanting to better themselves by gaining knowledge about people with whom we are coexisting in this wonderful world of ours. I hope to never stop learning, and these ladies have enlightened me more than they will ever know. This is an easy read, and one that I did not want to put down until I turned the very last page. ... show more

  • Extraordinary 3 stories, phenomenally written
Format: Hardcover
Austim Out Loud caught my attention by the carefully chosen beautiful picture and the elegantly embossed lettering on the cover. Quality, cooperation between the 3 authors all with sons diagnosed with vastly different levels on the autism spectrum alongside comorbidities. Each author contributing her story to each chapter. Words. Words carefully chosen but with gut-punching honesty. Even if you, your family or friends have escaped the life of an autism family. This book will envelope all your cells in being able to relate in one strand or another. Marriage, raising kiddos, death, estrangement. LIFE! Read it, share it, I guarantee that you will leave their story more aware of the feelings you might need to deal with, how to be more present, kinder, aware and tolerant. Most sincerely Read this Book! ... show more

  • Pure joy in a book! A must read for and person who needs to be lifted and blessed.
Format: Hardcover
This is a story of three families who share their autism lives with us. They show us that 'A Life lived differently is not a life lived less." It is full of joy and real truth. ANYONE who reads this will put it down with a new perspective for the autism spectrum, more understanding of the world around them, and a new joy in your heart. I urge every reader to follow each mom on all the social media platforms. I do believe this will make the best sellers list. I will purchase more for gifts for my Library, some Mother's Day gifts, and especially for my local teachers. I am a nurse and being proactive in spreading joy and love and a bit of education brings me joy. I am so blessed to have made this purchase. I will be reading this book over and over! ... show more
