This book was recommended to me by my best friend who has a child with autism. It was recommended to her entire friend’s list, so not to just me directly, but I didn’t hesitate to buy it. I’m a single male with no children of my own, and this book is extremely eye-opening. It helped me truly realize what these mothers go through, including my friend, even though I haven’t personally witnessed the bad moments and the hard battles. I’ve only seen the moments that would make me believe nothing was wrong. I could never begin to know what it’s like to sacrifice one’s life to solely care for a child, let alone a child with special needs. I’d never pretend to know. So this book gave me a glimpse into the lives of three strangers and their families and it didn’t take long to be hooked. They told each of their life’s journey with so much honesty that it made me really feel for what they’ve been going through, and will forever continue to go through. It helped me understand my friend more, when I didn’t think that there was more to know. These women said they wish they had a manual or a book like this in the early stages when they were feeling lost and alone, and this book works for multiple audiences. Not only a parent in their situation, but literally anybody with a heart that has room to care and learn about something that doesn’t involve them directly. I know that I’ll take extra care when dealing with strangers in the world who maybe seem frustrating on the surface, but now being more considerate to the battles their waging on the inside or behind closed doors. I feel I always have, but even more so. It takes a lot for them to interact with the outside world, so the least I can do is be patient with them. I’m glad this book exists not only for the parent or guardian of a child with autism, but glad it exists for anyone who has a child or knows a child. This is truly a great resource in starting to understand what most of the world can’t see. Thank you to everyone involved in making this book a reality.

Yes buy it.

Wow I'm only a little over 100 pages in and I had to stop and write this. I can't recommend this book enough! As a father with an autistic daughter ( different set of circumstances than the book), but still highly relatable in some area's, gave me tidbits of information that was highly useful, particularly in the stories. There will be one sentence that just gets to me emotionally and will answer a question or quell a feeling I've had. It's one of those books that I cannot stop reading, or will make time to read. It is so relatable along with other books I've read that deal specifically with girls who unfortunately for a long time were not believed to be able to have autism. Amazing. The chapter on anxiety was so much needed. It may not say it all but it sure said enough. Zero disappointment in buying this book-Quote:" Research tells us anxiety is an emotion, often characterized by inner turmoil, dread, and the expectation of a future event. It is not the same as fear, because fear is the response to a real, actual event. It eats him from the inside out. This is what research and science don't tell you. They don't explain the way anxiety is a fire that burns around the clock, demanding all the air in the room until you can hardly breath."

What a truly wonderful read!

I’ve followed Kate, Carrie and Adrian on social media for years as I’m also an Autism mom. My son, is older than all 3 of their Autistic loved ones but I’ve always found great comfort in their words and stories. When I found out a book was being written by all 3, I pre-ordered almost immediately! I’d read Kate’s previous book, ‘Forever Boy’ and adored her writing style and this book was no different; except you get 3 stories in 1 AMAZING book! It felt like sitting in a coffee shop with all 3 mommas and having an intimate chat about our loved ones. Their individual journeys through Autism with their loved ones made me both laugh and cry as I could truly commiserate with their stories. I see bits of my own son in all 3 of theirs and while they are each so different, their stories led to one amazing thing: community. Kate, Carrie and Adrian: thank you for sharing your stories with all of us! It’s a much needed breath of fresh but realistic air. Continued success all of you!

Heartfelt, wise book "Autism Out Loud" written by three VERY resourceful-Moms supporting, educating and advocating for their unique autistic sons. Generously sharing what they have learned over the years as they nurture their boys to help other parents, friends and teachers. From confusion to acceptance and building community with other Moms on the same path. A great resource for every school library. As a former teacher, I learned a lot from reading this well-written book. The book is divided in sections and then each Mom shares what that was like for her so you get three perspectives from Carrie, Kate and Adrian. Bravo!

Life changing and soul saving!

I read and listened to this book as we were in the midst of getting our son’s autism diagnosis and it was life changing. It saved me and felt like a breath of fresh air and direction on our journey that had absolutely no guide book or map. I don’t know if I would have come out of our diagnosis journey the way I did without this book. The lived experience of parents and children navigating the most unexpected journey of Autism is often overlooked and is very under documented. These three moms tell it with such grace, wit, and love that it makes the book hard to put down. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I felt every emotion in between. Most importantly, I felt empowered and less alone on my journey. I purchased copies for loved ones who care for my son as well and recommend it to anyone and everyone, regardless of if you have a child in your life with special needs. I will not soon forget this book nor Amos, Jack, or Cooper.

Everybody would benefit from reading Autism Out Loud

Buying this book is like receiving three books for the price of one. There are three authors with three completely different stories about their sons on the autistic spectrum. This book is not just for people with autism in their families. I have personally been places, and experienced children and adults displaying behaviors that I simply did not understand. After reading this book, I have a much better perception of how people on the spectrum may behave differently than what is considered "normal." These authors have poured their hearts into allowing us to have a glimpse into their worlds of raising their neurodiverse children. Their children are every bit as lovable as their neurotypical children. They can be smart, happy, loving, stubborn, clingy, funny and have the same characteristics as their neurotypical siblings. The authors have written how having a child with autism in the family changes the entire family's ability to function in every day life. For instance, they cannot all decide to go to dinner and a movie. There is much more planning that the family must tackle before they can go out into the community. I give a great deal of respect to all of these families. I have learned so much about autism by reading this book. This is such a great read for anybody wanting to better themselves by gaining knowledge about people with whom we are coexisting in this wonderful world of ours. I hope to never stop learning, and these ladies have enlightened me more than they will ever know. This is an easy read, and one that I did not want to put down until I turned the very last page.

A labor of love

First off, I believe that many of us come in contact with those on the autism spectrum often but do not realize it. If or when you do, you may or may not know how to react. That’s where this awesome book comes into play. The book is a lmanual for families with an autistic member. Everything you need to know is carefully written in this wonderful book. The three mothers… Kate, Carrie and Adrian hearts with life experiences of their three sons. from anxiety to medication’s to siblings to thinking about a future that they cannot possibly know… They share everything. I can imagine each of them as young mothers getting a diagnosis of autism with their little ones. They must’ve been so confused. They looked for books, but there were none to be found to help them do the best for their little boys. None that just stopped them. They each did their own research and found things therapies and doctors that could guide them. Did they found each other… Definitely God‘s doing. The relationship blossom as they shared ideas and fears with each other. Each created pages and blogs to share with other moms and families to meet other moms that they could share with. This book as a collaboration of their lives with autism and children and families. Please get this book. Read it and open your minds to all the beauty that they share. This book would be a great gift for a library, school teachers or keep a couple with you to share with parents she may come into contact with. Yes… I’m a fan! You will be too!
