  • A must read for any parent who is raising a child
This book is truly one of the most heartfelt books I have read. The author, though an educator gets it from the perspective of the parents. A must read for anyone who has ever raised a child whether special needs child or general education child.

  • I LOVED CHAPTER 20 I LOVED CHAPTER 20
I highly recommend Side by Side to parents, teachers, and anyone who believes in building a more understanding and supportive world for all children. Side by Side by Edith Bokesh is a deeply moving and honest exploration of what it truly means to raise, teach, and support children with special needs. What I appreciated most is how the book reminds us that a child is never defined by a disability—it is just one part of who they are. Through real conversations and reflections, Edith brings together the voices of parents, teachers, and the wider community (“the village”) to highlight the challenges, triumphs, and everyday realities of special education. Each chapter—whether on hope, persistence, or the tensions families face—offers insight that feels both authentic and relatable. This book doesn’t just inform; it inspires empathy. It gives a voice to families and educators who often go unheard and serves as a reminder that inclusion and compassion are powerful tools in helping children thrive. ... show more
