    • perfect for making a plaque
I bought this paddle with some amount of hesitation after reading the reviews. But at $12.50, I decided to take the risk. Amazon prime delivered the paddle quickly, and I got to work on making an end of tour plaque for my colleague who was getting transfered to another duty station. THe 2.5 ft length was great for a plaque of this nature, as it wasn't too long, but not too short. I've seen people with big plaques on their "I love me" walls, but this one seemed to be classy and a perfect size. The plaque came varnished already, and the quality of varnish seemed great. If you're making a paddle plaque and don't have a lot of time to refinish this thing, then this might work for you. There is a sticker on the back that you'll have to peel off, and some writing also that can come off with some fine sandpaper. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to sand a little bit off it and refinish. But I decided to sand off everything and repaint before refinishing. I ended up also drilling a hole to put a command coin in there, and some small holes for rank insignia. The type of wood that the paddle was made of was easy to work with, and didn't crack when placed under the drillpress. I was pretty happy with how well the paint stuck, and the finished product looked great after wrapping with some 550lb. Type III Paracord 100' Black , with a couple fancy knots. We also used an engraved metal plate with a little "thank you" note, stuck directly on the paddle, and left the back of it unfinished so that people could sign with a gold pen. ... show more

    • Perfect for what we wanted it for!
Our use of this paddle is probably pretty different from the norm. My wife has a raft-float kind of thing for use on our pond. She wanted to be able to move around the pond, to get into or out of the sun, etc., and this paddle turned out to be the perfect size and length for that. I'm guessing that this might be a child's paddle, but for use by someone who is at water level, it's absolutely perfect. It seems well constructed, although the finish coat is a bit rough, as though they only applied one layer of finish, or didn't sand in between. Other than that, a paddle is a paddle. ... show more

    • Many cosmetic imperfections, but you can't beat the price
I bought this paddle (the 2.5 ft) as a decorative piece to turn into a coat/key rack. As many others have noted, the product does not match the description, and is lighter in color than the photo. My oar arrived with several small chips and divits in the wood, though overall they weren't too unsighlty. Additionally, some of the edges were still rough, and the laquer/finish was somewhat sloppily applied. For 12 bucks though, it served it's purpose very nicely and I really can't complain. ... show more

    • Exactly what we needed, and then also for Pinterest decor!
I threw on there a p-cord spiral stitch and p-cord Turkish heads to dress it up nicely. Having it pre-protected allowed ease of etching and staining the etch darker. Also, for my boys’ pirate themed room, we bought another one of these and used plastic pipe strapping to screw one up on their wall above the closet. The material is solid, it stayed together even after dropping it a couple of times, and swinging it to show off my Jedi skills. Wish there was more I can say.
