  • Solid Product - Dual Sport and Throttle Considerations Solid Product - Dual Sport and Throttle Considerations
Style: Top Kit
It is well built and works as expected once set up. The instructions took a little figuring out, but the slip-on pads made it easy to swap out and experiment. Two considerations before buying: 1. I have ProTaper Pillow Top grips, which have a large inner flange. The Atlas has a recessed area meant to fit around a smaller flange, so I had to trim the rubber for it to seat properly. 2. If your throttle housing has a raised center ridge it reduces the available mounting angles. For my setup, at wide open throttle the lock ends up forward of my thumbs reach a little, which is fine since I would never lock it there. I’ll check in after some longer trips to report on how well the lock holds given the vibration of the big thumper DR650. ... show more

  • Total game changer!!!
Style: Top Kit
This is a total game changer!! I purchased this knowing I was heading on a 4000 mile road trip. It was totally worth it. This allows for a more relaxed and comfortable ride by holding your throttle for you. That being said, it is not a true cruise control. If riding in a group it does take constant “tweaking”. It does allow for releasing of the throttle to ease strain from long rides and when used properly you can use less grip strength to maintain your speed. It does install easily. The hardest part was determining the correct pad thickness, but even that was more time consuming rather than difficult. Make sure you order the correct orientation (top or bottom mount) I accidentally ordered the wrong one and it interfered with operation of regular controls. Return process was quick and replacement worked perfectly. After my nearly constant use over a week long period, it does seem to slip a little and does need occasional cleaning to maintain proper contact of the rubber pad. Overall, this is a highly recommended addition to my bike that has no cruise control. ... show more

  • Nice Product But May Not Fit Your Bike As Expected Nice Product But May Not Fit Your Bike As Expected
Style: Top Kit
This throttle lock appeared well made and came with detailed instructions and all necessary parts for installation. UNFORTUNATELY, despite purchasing the "top kit" they identified as being appropriate for my bike (Kawasaki Ninja 1000) it didn't fit at all. This lock, with attached friction pad (which makes it thicker) is supposed to be mounted on the throttle tube between the grip and throttle housing. WITHOUT any friction pad installed, the lock mechanism would not fit between my grip and throttle housing. Attached pics show the lock mechanism without any friction pad installed. On the pic of the side of the lock towards the throttle housing, you can see the cutout in the metal where the friction pad would be held. If there were a friction pad installed, it would be sticking up in the air above the grip, doing nothing, because no part of this mechanism would fit down over the throttle tube where it needed to sit in order to function. I'm not trying the bottom kit, because this wasn't an issue of outside interference - there was just no room. It would be helpful if the manufacturer communicated "minimum clearance" guidelines for the lock to fit. One other side note - most motorcycles have some horizontal (left to right) play in the throttle tube, which is normal. My bike has approximately 2mm of horizontal play. Even with the grip pushed towards the bar end to take up this play, the lock would not fit. I am mentioning this because throttle tube play is common, the instructions are directing clearance of 1mm for mounting, but throttle tube play is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. ... show more

  • Save your money
Style: Top Kit
I get the concept, I do. It would be great if it worked properly. I have a gsx8r. Once putting this thing on, all it would do would stick the throttle without it being activated. So I would need to manually throttle down myself, otherwise it would rev while I put the clutch in. It’s not worth it. Just don’t do it. ... show more

  • Heavy - hard to get just right -updated
Style: Top Kit
The unit is heavy and you feel that on the throttle. Positioning is everything, BMW F800GS Adventure (2014) A Lower mount kit does not work. It just does not fit and can get hung up the upper unit does fit but its a finicky fit. You have to get it tight enough it does not slip but not to tight so it does not pinch the throttle tube. On the F800 - thats like one very narrow opportunity. Tiny screw - the whole system hinges on a tiny screw. If it falls out, you lose your $135 dollar plus investment. First ride: All that said, it worked great and much simpler to operate than the Kako twist unit I've had on the bike for years. Unfortunately, first time out something slipped on the unit and it had popped lose and was just hanging on my throttle like a loose bracelet. The screw was still in, I removed it and have not had a chance figure out why it failed. So my journey has been - Upper unit, which did not fit and is in fact unsafe because it can stick, a lower unit balancing act between tight enough to not slip but not to tight as to pinch the throttle tube. The 30 minutes it worked it did work well, however, I'm wondering how reliable it will be when I do get it working. The unit build quality is excellent - but the design needs to be lighter and with design improvements for the friction pads and clamping mechanism. Update: As mentioned in other reviews, and it may depend on your vehicle, it is a finicky device to get just right on a BMW F800GSA. But I did it! Last summer I took a two week trip through the west on and off road and it held up. Then winter came and I turned on my heated grips, the throttle started sticking, without the cruise control set to on. note I could only get this to work with the thinnest friction pad & also note I am unwilling to cut my BMW heated grips for any custom fitting. Bottom Like - too much trouble on the 2014 BMW F800GS - probably unsafe. ... show more

  • Would not hold the throttle in place.
Style: Top Kit
Installed on a 2010 BMW F800GS. Even using the smallest pad it still made contact with the throttle body and had friction. When it was fully engaged it would slowly back off the throttle and not hold. Satisfied with the quality but it just didn’t work.
