First thing..the bed looks great. It was easy to assemble and it is very comfortable and easy to pull out and put away. There, last good thing I will say. The bed broke the second night we slept on it because they drilled a hole right at a section where two pieces of wood had been spliced together instead of using one piece of wood! The piece is only about 20” long and they couldn’t use one piece?? Anyway, I contacted them by phone and then via email and sent several pictures of the flaw. Crickets... I was told by customer service someone would contact me. My emails generated an auto reply saying someone would contact me within 48 hours. Well over a month later, 5 emails and two phone calls and nothing. Sad part is that the section where the break is would be so easy to replace. All someone would have to do is ask where I needed it sent and we could disassemble the bed and put in the new piece. Easy, done and 100% great review. I will be glad to revise this review if anything changes, but in the meantime I wouldn’t trust this company. Update: I didn’t realize just how badly Covid had impacted their response time. Once customer service got to my request for service it got resolved and the replacement item shipped and was delivered across country in less than 8 days. No questions asked, just a complete replacement for the damaged section. My faith in this company is completely resolved and i wouldn’t hesitate to purchase from them again

***I loved this murphy bed and would have given it 4 or 5 stars until I experienced a issue that is a safety concern.*** Clever design with some thoughtful features (love the charging station) and a very comfortable mattress. ASSEMBLY: Fairly easy (I handled it all by myself) except that the bore hole for one of the final pieces was not drilled deep enough, therefore the bolt feeding through this hole for the stopper to be secured to the drawer would not make contact with the threading of its target hole and "grip". I have yet to either find a longer bolt of the same width that will feed through and make contact, or borrow a tool to bore the hole deeper. Since it's not a part vital to the functionality of the bed, I'll leave it for now. Some of the original drill holes were a little off, especially egregious when I attempted to attach the middle hinge of the bed platform onto the chest and saw how crooked they had drilled the intended holes. CHARGING STATION: 2 USB-A ports (not fast charging but they work, and based on performance I will venture to guess they're outputting more than 1A each). USB-C ports would be a useful upgrade for their future products. Also, two 3-prong outlets for everything else. USE: Bed is easy to unfold and set up by yourself. TIP: The front half of the top panel can flip back, however this isn't necessary to unlatch and unfold the front (I believe it's just an added feature so (A) people are less likely to hit their heads and (B) so people don't feel claustrophobic if they sleep with their heads on that side; I for one enjoy that enclosed feeling so I leave the panel down. It lends to a better night's sleep for me.) Not bothering with that folding panel also gives you the freedom to decorate on top of the chest (i.e. a lamp, vase, etc.). If it's necessary for your comfort to "open the sunroof" as I call it, know that you should either not keep anything on top, or just keep a few easily moved pieces. Also to note: if you need anything that you're keeping in that bottom drawer, be sure to take it out BEFORE you open the bed because otherwise you'll have to fold everything back up again. The drawer is inaccessible when the bed is in its open position (you can pull it forward if you want, but unless you have very tiny hands, you won't be able to slip anything out of the narrow space). SAFETY ISSUE: Looking at the design of the piece when unfolded, you see the support leg underneath the foot of the bed angles forward in its open and "locked" position. This is a serious design flaw when coupled with the fact that there's nothing locking the leg in place as there is for the midsection of the bed (the top set of "drawers" comes down to become a base/stand for the middle portion; this panel thankfully has locks.) Additionally, there are no sort of anti-slip pads on its feet. As I was sitting towards the foot of the bed, that leg failed and slipped all the way forward, thereby causing the front of the bed to collapse towards the floor. ***THIS IS A PART THAT COMES PREASSEMBLED AND ATTACHED, so the issue can't be chalked up to user error during assembly.*** This is a serious safety issue, as any normal person would expect to be able to sit at the edge of a bed, especially one that's otherwise so ingeniously designed. Not only that, but this being a queen-sized bed, it's not far-fetched to expect that at times there may be more than one person with their weight on different parts of the bed. Indeed, looking at the included assembly guide, I see no warnings that say you SHOULDN'T sit at the foot. When the involved beam broke, you could see it's just held in place with two wooden dowels on either side. That may be fine for any of the other slats, but when it's attached to this moving piece and is weight-bearing, two mere dowels (you can see in my pictures that the dowels broke) is unacceptable. FURTHERMORE, BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN AND/OR SMALL PETS LIKE I DO (A CAT AND TWO DOGS) WHO OFTEN LIKE TO HIDE UNDER FURNITURE. DEFINITE CRUSHING HAZARD*** Finally, I've shopped around at different websites for this specific color, Burnt Amber. In person, I'm disappointed that it's more of an espresso with a slight hint of red/auburn. It was intended to match the lighter walnut-shade of the trim around my bay window as well as the bookcase; it's not a perfect match as it's too dark, but it's still a beautiful piece. The other light wood versions were too light for my taste. Sadly, Atlantic Furniture is currently closed due to the COVID-19 epidemic and I don't know exactly how I will get this broken bed resolved at the moment. Either way, everyone stay safe and protect your families. Thanks for reading.

Initially the installation was a bit overwhelming but everything went together quite smoothly. I was impressed with all the packaging so that nothing got damaged in shipping. That said, the main support piece had a huge crack in it that was caused during manufacturing when the hinges were installed. I called the customer support number and they worked with me to resolve my issue and get a new part out to me very quickly. Now that it is fully assembled it is a lovely piece of furniture that just looks like a large dresser. Everyone is so surprised when I show them that it’s a queen size bed. Mattress is very comfortable!

The product has a lot of issues that would limit me from recommending this to anyone. The instructions are not very clear, so you need to take your time and be sure you identify everything hard to see screw, and make sure every step is complete. But more so, you will very likely have blemishes and defects in the shipped product. I would try to send it back, but boxing it will be difficult at best, and it took more than a hour to put this together. Realistically, I would pay $200-$300 for this bed, but not the $1200+ I paid. I have experience much of what everyone else has with 1 and 2 star reviews, but I feel it is worth at least 3 stars. The reason, if once assembled, if you take careful care of it, it should last. But if you try to let kids use it, it may not be safe, as there is nothing you can do short of safety strapping the bed to the wall to keep the frame from falling over if too much weight is applied to the right spots. Right now, my unit looks like it came from a second hand store because I caused some additional damage to it putting it together, and I am hoping a little glue, and some clamps will at least hold the damaged laminate surface together. The real problem with this bed is that the manufacturer has no pride in the workmanship, and it shows. Pieces are just slapped together carelessly. Some of the 1x1 binding/joining strips overlap the slat grooves preventing proper installation, and some of the are set too far from where they should be, so tightening them causes the paint and finish to crack. The faux dresser look, upon close inspection, look cheap, as the side panels to not align with the front. I could go on, but as I said, this has all been covered already in the 1 and 2 star reviews.

At the time I purchased this, there were a bunch of reviews indicating that it was nearly impossible to assemble. Having assembled it easily, even while horribly out of shape, I suspect that at least some of those reviews were probably posted by competitors while this bed was on sale. It doesn't have the familiar matching letter/number tags you might expect from Ikea, but the instructions were quite clear which parts fit together, and how. If you can follow basic instructions and lift a heavy box, you can assemble this bed. The mattress is surprisingly comfortable. I didn't want to buy one with a split mattress, as I assumed the pieces would separate and create uncomfortable gaps, or that the mattress would be made of really soft foam, leaving you less comfortable than you might be if you just slept on the floor in the first place. Neither has been a problem. I still probably would have bought one I could use a normal mattress with if I was going to be sleeping on this myself regularly, but for occasional use, even for weeks at a time, it is quite comfortable, and it leaves space above the cabinet for shelves or pictures. The frame is weaker than I would hope for something built to last. I will note that I am heavy (330 lbs currently). The frame will support that if you sit down carefully, then lay flat without flopping. Don't climb in with all of your weight on one knee, don't jump on it (even if you are not heavy), avoid flopping in the center of anything, and probably avoid any particularly strenuous activities (even if you are not heavy). The supporting slats are made of smaller pieces of wood spliced together, rather than out of a single piece each. With all of my weight on one knee at one of the splices, I broke a slat. It wasn't too difficult to replace after a trip to the hardware store (drilled out the dowels to replace them, but had to notch one end of the replacement slat to avoid disassembling everything), but the replacement doesn't look like the rest of the bed, and never will.

I would give this zero stars if possible. Let’s see, where to start… 1. The finish on the piece is awful. The paint is cracked and peeling in many places. We will have to touch it up ourselves. When the top is closed there is a gap big enough to clearly see the hinges for the top. 2. The assembly is a nightmare. The screws and bolts are identified, but the actual furniture pieces are not. You have to figure out by sight which is what. Then you find out out that the pre-assembled pieces done at the factory are not correct. For instance, the part that they assembled for the drawer was off by enough that the drawer bottom wouldn’t fit in, nor would the drawer close. We were able to fix these only because my husband is very handy and had all the correct tools on hand. Many of the screws didn’t fit into the factory assembled places meant for them. 3. The base for the mattress is very puny. I don’t think it will stand up to much use. Luckily, we don’t imagine that it will be used more than once or twice a year for an overnight visit, because I don’t think it would hold up to much more than that. Seriously, do not buy this. Spend the extra money and find something similar at a local furniture store and save yourself the trouble. If you’re wondering why we didn’t just return it, it’s because by the time we were able to get around to assembling it, the return window had expired.

We were looking for a space-saving Murphy-type bed, maybe a bookshelf style that folds down. I ran across a number of these chest beds and thought that might be a better for our space. The bed arrived in 3 boxes, one of which was the mattress compressed and rolled up in a plastic bag. I opened the bag and allowed the mattress to sit over night. It expands to a nice 6" thickness. Not as comfortable as out 13" gel-foam adjustable bed but just fine for company and much better than most sofa beds. Assembly was a breeze! I did this by myself although it would have been nice to have a helper. Some of the parts can be heavy and difficult to handle but if I can do it alone most folks can too. The parts fit nicely (they provide extras in case you lose a few) and the finished chest is a nice addition to our spare bedroom. The only con I have is not really a con but more of a disappointment. The storage drawer is a little shallow. It holds the sheets and a blanket fine but spare pillows are a problem and forget about storing a comforter.

I really wanted to like this, as it was a product I really needed. And after assembly it does look good. After reading reviews I made sure to take my time assembling so nothing could be related to any fault of my own. Right out of the box, though, I noticed a fairly significant crack on one of the slats. No damage to the box, and this piece was packed fairly towards the middle...so was it cracked before it was even packed? During assembly I tried to put one of the metal barrel nuts into the hole, but it wouldn't insert. Turns out that hole wasn't even drilled properly through. I had to get out my own drill to finish that piece. My particular model color (Driftwood) is supposed to have this rustic gray finish to it, but the white paint they used and rubbed off was done very poorly. It left huge paint puddles dried on various pieces. The metal latches on the side that hold the front in place do not line up with the clasps at all. I had to unscrew and reposition them, leaving holes behind. Finally, once assembled and extended, it is not sturdy at all. The wood slats that the mattress lays on have no support at all. The foot of the bed and corners will snap if anyone sits on it. I can touch it with one finger and see it sag. It certainly won't be able to accommodate the weight of an adult without additional structural support and metal brackets. Which I plan on doing, because I have no other choice. It is definitely not a $2000 piece of furniture.
