  • Amazing, but maybe ahead of its time
Display Size: 27 Inches
Review updated 8/12/2020 after a few months of ownership. Okay, so, lets start with the price tag. As of writing this update, the monitor is at $2,000. I purchased this for $1,200 only a few months ago. I don't suggest spending $2,000 on a monitor no matter how nice it is. I still struggle with myself for spending just $1,200 on it. The combined features in this monitor are unique, but they will not stay that way for much longer. I would expect actual competition in this space within the next year or two, and thus lower prices. That said, this monitor absolutely blows me away. Even through a recent financial hardship that saw me itemizing things to sell for quick relief, I still couldn't let this one go. The 4k quality is of course crisp, the refresh rate is high, gsync works flawlessly, the full array backlight is decent, and the HDR implementation literally has no match within the gaming monitor space. The 1100 nit peak brightness combined with a QDot layer for color enhancement allows for the full effects of HDR to be taken advantage of, and it is simply beautiful in games like Far Cry New Dawn. Bring all of these features together, and your mind will be blown. I have a second, normal, monitor next to this one and sometimes I like to find an HDR video and play it back on both screens at the same time to compare. The difference is almost always immediately visible, as on a normal monitor the darker colors get washed out and the brightest colors look dull in comparison. That's to say, this monitor allows you to have (almost) true black and true white on the screen at the same time. It's not something that you can really show off on a standard monitor, it's something you have to see in real life. Kind of like 144hz, you simply cannot reproduce it on a standard monitor. The colors are so vibrant, lights are actually bright like lights, sometimes I squint when I walk outside from a dark area in a game just like in real life. Now, something to keep in mind is that this monitor and HDR on PC in general is still enthusiast-tier technology. Meaning that it's not a simple plug-n-play solution. Before I bought this monitor, all I knew about HDR was that it looked pretty on my friend's TV. After a few months of ownership of this monitor, I could probably call myself an expert on how monitors and colorspaces work. You may have to do a lot of research to fully understand the features on this monitor and work your way through technical issues and limitations. I really can't stress that enough, if you just plug this in and expect everything to work flawlessly and look super nice, you're going to have a bad time. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. This monitor blew me away like no other has before. ... show more

  • The Heavyweight Champion of Monitors
Display Size: 27 Inches
Looking for a 4k monitor capable of running at 144FPS? HDR Enabled with wide color gamut? G-SYNC and Aura Sync capable with Eye Care technology? A light show? No Speakers? A monitor that will pay for itself? Did I mention no speakers??? Then this is your monitor!!! It is absolutely flawless from the minute you power it on. I actually do not even know where to begin with this monitor, so I will try my best. PRO's 1) Native 4k with 144 FPS OC 2) Solid/Heavy construction 3) RGB with Aura SYnc 4) G-Sync Capable 5) Blue Light Filters, Darkness Boosters, and wide color gamut 6) HDR Enabled 7) No speakers (Monitor speakers suck, lets just be honest) 8) Pre-designed screen adjustments and customizable screen profiles 9) Easy buttons for navigation and menu control 10) Viewing angles are superb and colors are vivid and deep 11) Makes 1080p and even 720p gaming enjoyable and immersive 12) Quiet operation CON's 1) The price tag is a downpayment on a new car for most consumers 2) Constant fear of breaking something 3) Unforeseeable longevity of current technology with the advent of OLED screens in everyday consumer electronics All-in-all, I had a $5000 budget to build a computer and all gaming peripherals including a desk, sound system, furniture, and the PC/Monitor. I paid $1600 when this went on sale for Prime Day. The amount of joy I have had playing on it: priceless! ... show more

  • Never Knew HDR Gaming Could Look So Good
Display Size: 27 Inches
After trying out several high end gaming monitors and having countless QC issues, I decided to bite the bullet and spring for the PG27UQ. I'm very glad I did. This monitor is fantastic. Colors are rich and bright. The HDR mode is incredible on games that have well done HDR (Sekiro looks stunning on this monitor in HDR). Text looks crisp and clear in 4k. Gysnc works well and makes games look super smooth. The blacks are very good for an IPS monitor and are almost as good as another high end VA monitor I tried (and returned). The monitor's interface is great and easy to navigate. There are a lot of options to enable, including a blue light filter to help with eye strain. The monitor frame and stand is great quality and the built-in LED lights look really cool. The antiglare coating is applied well and isn't intrusive. and it doesn't create a dirty screen effect like some other monitors have. There is absolutely no backlight bleed and IPS glow is minimal. I have not noticed any dead or dim pixels. The local dimming feature does create a halo effect around text and objects in black scenes, but it isn't very noticeable in games and it can be disabled. The monitor has a built in fan, and I haven't had an issue with excessive fan noise. There are some very minor annoyances with the monitor, though. The overclock mode will bring the refresh rate up to 144hz, but only with chroma subsampling. You can get 8 bit color depth at 120hz, but 10 bit is only available at 98hz. The 98hz cap is for all resolutions, so if you think you can play 10-bit HDR at 1440p and 144hz, you will be disappointed. The monitor doesn't support display scaling (that I could figure out at least). ... show more
