EDIT: I've discovered that the horizontal lines come back after the standby pixel cleaning runs. It seems like a firmware update is needed to fix this. Updating from MCM102 to MCM104 did not resolve the issue. It is easily fixed by running a manual pixel cleaning, but I shouldn't have to do this every time I wake the monitor up. Im hoping ASUS addresses this issue. If you're worried about the grey banding after unboxing, don't be until your return window is actually about to close. After I unboxed mine, I immediately ran a few pixel cleaning cycles and it definitely helped, but it was still pretty bad out of the box. The banding was noticeable enough to be annoying during daily use (productivity and gaming), but I could tell it was slowly getting better the more I used it and the more refreshes I did. About 3 weeks in, I was honestly about to box it up and send it back. The graininess on the greys really bothered me. It was like this thin horizontal and vertical banding that created a grid pattern across the whole screen for grey backgrounds. But I ran one last refresh and now it’s very minimal, to the point I almost don’t even notice it anymore. Plus, seeing how it got better over time from normal use, I'm expecting it to get even better as I put more hours on it and do more cleaning cycles. For reference, I’m at 108 hours on this screen with 35 pixel cleans. I don’t love that you have to "work" for a good looking display, but once the banding is gone, I think the screen is incredible. Colors are great, brightness and HDR look really good, and the sub-pixel layout makes text look way clearer than my QD-OLED monitor. For the price, it’s a great value. If you don't have a huge reason to upgrade right now and don't want to wait 100+ hours for a screen to look right, maybe wait for the next gen of tandem oled to see if the manufacturing gets better. But if you are thinking about buying it, I dont think there's any harm in buying it and trying it out since Amazon returns are easy anyway. Note: Im not including pictures of the screen because the pictures just dont capture the banding issue properly and I dont want to mislead anyone. My monitor looked similar to a lot of pictures you will find online, and now it looks very similar to the greys on my QD-OLED.

Overview: Most beautiful display I have ever seen in person with my eyes in my entire life! The blacks are inky and the contrast is amazing. I came from an LG OLED CX 55 inch 4k TV that I was using as a monitor/tv. The difference is night and day. The pixel density as in pixels per inch is higher than a 4k 55 inch and with vivid pixel mode, it feels indistinguishable from a 4k 27 inch display to me. The 280HZ is amazingly smooth and responsive even compared to 120HZ. I bought a refurbished 4k QD OLED monitor and a mini LED, both of which arrived with a major screen defect so I had to return them. The picture of those monitors doesn't even hold a candle to the quality of this screen. And those screens cost respectively $240 and $140 more than this! This is absolutely a steal for $650. It comes with 2 HDMI 2.1 ports and a display port 1.4 with DSC. On DisplayPort 1.4, the DSC works seamlessly and has not caused a single hiccup. It also comes with a heavy duty vesa mounting bracket adapter and the power adapter is built into the monitor too which makes cable management much easier. Consoles: Tested with a bunch of games on PS5 and Xbox Series X. PS5 has a native 1440p, 120hz, HDR mode that is amazing. On series X, in order to get HDR working in game, you have to enable a 4k signal that the monitor downscales to 1440p to fit the display. The resulting image is sharper, but not that different to the PS5's native 1440p mode. I actually prefer the PS5's image slightly compared to the series X, but I also didn't test a lot of newer games on the series X. But image quality is amazing on both. Panel Settings: I guess I won the panel lottery as they say or maybe the quality control is better, but I had no vertical banding. Brightness is amazing. I am using HDR True Black 500 mode. I think it limits the brightness to 500 nits technically, but it appears brighter because of how amazing the contrast is and nothing ever felt too dark. They also say it extends the life of the panel because the pixels don't have to work as hard to light up so bright so that's an added bonus. According to Asus this is probably overkill, but on my PC, I have the taskbar set to auto hide, screensaver to a black screen after 2 minutes, and screen shut off at 15 minutes. I would suggest if you want a very long monitor life that you do something similar. Monitor Behavior: One thing I noticed is that it does a pixel refresh every time the power is turned off or the monitor goes into standby about 5 minutes after no activity. So even when I turn the monitor on for less than a minutes and turn it off it does a pixel refresh. This is not the same as a panel refresh and the monitor is built to do that process as many times as it wants because it is just adjusting voltages. Just don't unplug your monitor without turning it on and off first. Because it won't run a cycle when off. Even if you do interrupt a cycle, another pixel refresh should fix it if it does cause a problem. This is all speculative from what I have read online and at 40 hours in, I haven't run across a single issue with this monitor and absolutely love it.

To start with some context, I have a single-monitor setup and have been looking for a premium product that I could use in my 9-5 data analyst job and for gaming. I originally purchased an XG27AQDMG, but the text fringing with the old RWGB pixel layout made it practically unusable in my 8+ hours a day in Excel. This monitor does not have that same issue and the text clarity is basically perfect. The gray banding issues were something I was very worried about because of Reddit. It’s not perfect, but this issue was definitely blown way out of proportion. Unless you are actively seeking it out, you will hardly ever notice it. This monitor is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing colors, blinding brightness levels for HDR gaming, and incredible motion performance for multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike or ARC Raiders. Really happy with this purchase and I’m excited to use it for years to come.

I upgraded to this monitor from an LG 27GR95QE which was a 1st generation W-OLED. I wasn't sure if the upgrade would really be worth it as I was already on an OLED and the refresh rate increase was only from 240hz to 280hz, but man is the jump to a 4th generation W-OLED panel noticable. The maximum brightness is a significant upgrade over my previous monitor and the text clarity has been much improved over previous W-OLED panels. My biggest worry was with the "dark grey banding" issue that I read about so much online, and it was something I could notice though just barely on my 1st gen OLED. It's hard to say whether I simply won the panel lottery or if ASUS has improved their manufacturing tolerances recently, but this panel has such an insignificant amount of banding that I never notice it in everyday use. I definitely paid a premium for what on a spec sheet seems like a small improvement but I absolutely love this monitor

My previous monitor was the MSI G27C2 which is a 1080p 144Hz VA panel from around 2018. This ASUS OLED monitor is a massive step-up in all respects. There is not much to put other than that, it's simply a great monitor. Additionally, I have almost no fear of burn-in thanks to the Tandem tech and the many built-in OLED-Care features. I did have to run a pixel refresh cycle because I was seeing grey banding but that cycle fixed the problem completely. From what I gather, this is normal for many OLED panels and might not have anything to do with your quality of unit, unless the grey banding is persistent after several cycles. The only downside I ran into was the extremely quick pixel response time. It's 1 millisecond or less, so each frame doesn't blur (great to have at high framerates). This makes framerates below 144 Hz look slightly choppy because there's no blur to hide the framerate gaps, this effect gets worse the lower in framerate you get. For the first time ever, I started enabling motion blur in my games. Not a big deal, just know that you'll want to be at high framerates (ideally 280Hz) to not have the choppiness. To be extra clear, this is not a real problem with the monitor, it's just the nature of extremely quick pixel response times. Overall, this is a great monitor. I absolutely recommend it if you're scared of OLED burn-in but want the benefits of OLED.

This monitor is absolutely terrible. I bought this as a second monitor to test it between my QD-OLED (xg27acdms), since I am going to be in a building later this year with uncontrollable lighting, and didn't want to deal with the raised blacks that QD-OLEDS have. I had used the QD-OLED for a good 30 hours before testing this one out, and as soon as I opened a webpage like Youtube, I could IMMEDIATELY see the banding and it is extremely noticeable. Along with that, I also noticed that the text clarity is awful, causing a shimmer effect that's very hard on your eyes and can cause strain almost immediately or after 20-30 minutes. It does depend on the font and weight of the text, but it basically applies to the majority of text. After noticing all of this, I decided to do a grayscale test to see how bad the banding is and it is absolutely awful. Instead of looking smooth, the screen has visible horizontal/vertical unevenness that makes flat colors look dirty or textured. It is distracting enough that once I noticed it, I kept seeing it during regular use, not just on test patterns. Last test that I did was loading up a game where there's a lot of dark spaces, so I played a bit of Arc Raiders and when in dark areas that potentially have grey or even just plain black (or even like a light white), there's these horizontal lines that you just can't unsee after playing on a normal monitor for long enough. Last but not least, people say that if you are in a bright room, then you NEED to get a WOLED monitor; however, I find it odd that if there are windows directly behind you that happen to be open, the reflection takes up at least half of your screen and you can't even tell that the black is there anymore. I read up a lot on these monitors and I can confidently say that everyone complaining about the banding (whether there's a lottery for these panels or not) was absolutely right and that I will be returning this monitor, and I also hope that anyone who has ordered this monitor cancels it immediately and orders a QD-OLED or a better-panel WOLED instead.

Always do your research, not all screens with this tech will come out great and i was expecting it to arrive with bad dirty screen or vertical grey bands then having to do an rma go get a better one but i got lucky on the first try. I would do the rma if i got a bad one because the first time looking this monitor was awesome, deep black with super bright highlights and the ability to use it in a fairly lit room in daytime (with curtains) and it still looks amazing. If you lose this lottery dont fret if yours has just a little grey banding or dirty screen, you can "break it in" or "warm it up" by putting on hdr content for a few hours then a pixel refresh cycle, in the post i saw they said about 4 hours and it basicly made it almos imposible to notice in normal use. This is a really good monitor if you know the drawbacks and its really good pros. Hope this helps anyone who is looking for a great monitor.

I had very high hopes for this monitor, and, as many others have stated, this is not a good monitor. When it comes to the vertical banding lottery, it's not really a lottery for whether you get it or not, but a lottery between bad vs horrific. Also, vertical banding isn't exclusive to dark greys, you can see it on tons of different colored backgrounds. On top of that, this isn't even the worst part, there is another major issue that a lot of people overlook. If you look closely at the screen, there is a very noticeable grain/mura effect on pretty much every color except black and white. Like a dirty layer between you and the content on your screen, negating all benefits of being glossy. Basically, you have 2 major issues both nuking the color uniformity at the same time from 2 separate angles, vertical banding and grainy effect. Now keep in mind that this isn't asus's fault, the entire LG's manufacturing process for this tandem woled panel is flawed and this gen can be considered a failure. These issues persist in other woled panels, but they are significantly less pronounced to the point where I didn't even notice anything wrong when i had previous gen XG27AQDMG before this one, aside from underwhelming brightness. These issues aside, this monitor is responsive, 280hz is great, and fps gaming experience overall is decent and better than IPS monitors from the same time period.
