  • Fine mobo, skip the bloatware
This motherboard is great for its price range. My Lan experience: When I did a clean install of windows, the LAN driver updated itself - I just had to proceed with windows setup without the internet connection, and once I got to the desktop it sorted itself out. However, when I booted the PC from a drive with a previous installation of windows, I had to update the lan driver myself. Just plan ahead and put the lan driver on a thumb drive so that if you need it, you have it. General Value: The board is super hands-off: it overclocks the CPU as much as the cpu, temperature, and power supply will allow, within preset safety margins. Because of this (in combination with the overclockable CPU and a sufficient graphics card), it runs the games that I play consistently at 60fps, which is all I want. It has plenty of expansion slots. It has 3 M.2 drive spots, and so many USBs. It has several RGB headers. It supports USB-C front panel connections. It supports high end audio systems. The layout is easy to work with even in a mid-size tower. I particularly like that the sata cable connections are sideways and that the fan headers are in discrete spots that won't cause wire crossover on the face of this very nice looking motherboard. Lots of RGB support, though I wish the LEDs on the lower right of the board were diffused. Its very pretty, and looks great in my glass-sided, LED-filled case. Tech support is rated low because: The overclocking is more aggressive than I like. I have sufficient power and cooling that it pretty much constantly tries to max the overclock. There's no need for my CPU to be hanging out as close to 5000 MHz as it can get when I'm browsing Amazon, but I don't have a lot of control over how much the board tries to overclock. There are only a few available settings, and all of them seem to behave the same way. It took me a while to figure out how to turn off the LEDs when the computer is powered off. An unrelated thread on Reddit helped me find the bios setting to do it, but until then I had to literally unplug the power supply to get the lights to shut off. I hate Armoury Crate. It provides very little control over my system, and reports system stats in a gaudy, poorly laid out overlay that I can't dismiss from my screen. The stats are snapshot only, with no graphing available. The FanExpert floating bubble constantly floats over game windows, and doesn't appear to actually do anything. I uninstalled it all and now I use the UEFI bios to manage the mobo and downloaded Aura Creator by itself to manage LEDs. I am much happier. Armoury Crate does not manage GPU, plan to download a separate GPU utility. I uninstalled the AI Noise Cancelling utility. It negatively affected every voice chat program I use. ... show more

  • Overclocking Not Bad, Looks Good, USB-C
I was looking to build a new PC and did not want to break the bank by purchasing a ROG motherboard. I have owned five other ASUS motherboards (other brands as well) and really appreciate the care, support, and effort ASUS puts into their motherboard lineup. I settled on this because of the price is right and it possesses all the necessary features I was looking for. The motherboard itself has a nice layout. With all of my peripherals and cables attached, nothing feels overly crowded. I really like the fact that the headers for the majority of attachments are placed on the perimeter of the board. Yes, a few are in the middle, but with a board this size with as many connections as it provides, that is unavoidable. The back panel is laid out very nicely. I use a lot of peripherals (see attached images). My computer case is an In-Win D-Frame. The wires stick out at an odd angle because the back panel of the motherboard faces upward (see attached images). Since the layout of the back panel is laid out nicely, directing the wires and cables around the chassis proves no problem. Some additional things I like about this board: - USB-C connections. Many of my devices are only USB-C, so nice touch - Comes with 2 heatsinks for M.2 drives (I have 2 Samsung 970 EVO Plus) - Has three 3-pin aRGB headers on the perimeter of the board, not in the middle - Plenty of fan headers (though, I use an iCue Commander Pro) - No LAN issues (Ubiquiti equipment and CAT6a cabling in my home) and high transfer rates - Overclocking the CPU (i7-10700k) was flawless, no issues (see attached image from CPU-Z) I would have liked to see a M.2-e slot on this board. This would have allowed the installation of a M.2 WiFi card. I knew this board did not possess one, so this is not a big deal and resulted in no lost stars for the rating. Yet, the Prime Z590M-Plus comes with one, so putting a M.2-e slot on the Prime Z590-A should not have been difficult. One issue that frustrated me is overclocking my RAM. In the beginning, I decided to use two Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 4000 (PC4-3200) C16 1.35V modules. Originally, I installed them in slots 1 and 3, resulting in no overclock. I even attempted manually adjusting timings and voltages in the BIOS, resulting in no overclock. Granted, this RAM is not on the qualified vendor list, but similar types from Corsair are. I bought two other types of Corsair RAM on the qualified vendor list, still resulting in no overclock. I finally placed the RAM (the original ones I purchased) in the motherboard memory slots 2 and 4. Like magic, overclocking finally was working. I am not sure if this is intentional for this board or a defect, but others should be aware of this. I returned the slower RAM and kept the original, faster pair. This experience for me resulted in a reduction of 1 star. Despite that, overclocking of the RAM and CPU have been stable for over a month. I have run several stress tests during that time in order to improve the CPU overclocking. This has resulted in a slight bump. Right now, the CPU consistently hovers around 4.9 Ghz, though this may be more of a reflection of the CPU cooler I am using rather than the combination of hardware. If I had better cooling, I might be able to push that frequency a wee-bit higher. Overall, I am satisfied with this motherboard. I love gaming with 144Hz refresh rates at 1080p and this machine performs well. I also do a lot of video editing (Adobe Premier Pro) for work and performance is also excellent. ... show more

  • The perfect mainboard for everything
Ive always used top-end ASUS boards for years and never had any issues, this board is the best Ive used to date. Just built another system for 4K editing as a filmmaker using this board. Great band with quality components. I'm also an ex-Microsft IT engineer so I'm pretty clued up. X3 N.2 X6 SSD and all x3 16 x PCI Express, fantastic. Currently running a 10 core i9 3.7 to 5 GHZ with 128 gig ram and a GTX 1080. GPU AND CPU Watercooled. Reading the volt loads on the mainboard there solid. As a footnote never compromises on a quailty power supply, your rig is only as good as its weakest component. Im using a 800-watt gold-certified supply. The system is a flying machine and this motherboard is at the very heart of it. Good job ASUS. 10/10 unbeatable for the price. If you are torn between this and say an MSI just buy it...Great product all round . ... show more

  • Still in search of incredible
I really like the motherboard, it's pretty and has all the usb slots I need. Asus software is trash though, the PC runs fine, but I can't get this vga light off despite trying every solution I can find on the internet, and it's really harshing my green color theme.

  • PCIE 4.0 Only with Intel 11th series and higher
I bought this one seeing that the 980 EVO pro I bought with PCIE4 should be blazing fast, but newp... This MOBO only uses PCIE4 drives in PCIE3 lanes unless you have a 11series processor. :(
