  • Worth it
It’s a good product for the price but the software isn’t on the same level as MSI or ASUS

  • Did not boot
So it turns out, I either got a board that was dead on arrival, or I got a board that has at least something defective that causes it to not boot. ASRock, however, has zero documentation or any kind of record of this issue happening or how to go about fixing it. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with a $160 frizbee that may as well look good in the trash because it quite simply doesn't work. It also doesn't help that I distinctly remember installing everything correctly, by the books, to the letter; AND, I spoke with someone who is very experienced with PC building over the phone about this and they were completely stumped. At this point, I'll be returning this piece of junk very soon and getting a motherboard that I know actually works out of the box. ... show more

  • Not a good motherboard.
TL;DR: Mobo is cramped, cheap, and died after 4 months. Read on for details. Bought this motherboard because it was inexpensive and still had some features of a full ATX board, which is what I really wanted. This was a mistake and I will avoid it in the future. Review First off, it is extremely cramped. I know it is a micro ATX board, however, the layout isn't intuitive. My CPU cooler completely covered the RAM, and the graphics card tab at the end of the pcie slot is nearly impossible to access once a modern graphics card is involved. Also, there is no BIOS reset switch, you need a jumper, and the CMOS battery is covered by the IO plate. This is very inconvenient if you ever need to troubleshoot which leads me to stability. I noticed that on some startups it would technically post with no errors, however, it would not move past the ASRock splash screen. Pressing the f key to enter BIOS didn't work either. The only option was a hard restart, which then it would post and boot windows as normal. There was no indication that anything was an issue. After awhile of using the motherboard and being barely satisfied with it after a frustrating building experience, I decided to upgrade the RAM. I take a lot of care when building my PC and used every precaution. After swapping RAM modules, and trying every combination of the RAM I had and the new kit, it would never even attempt to cycle on. The motherboard received power as indicated by the LED, however, no POST process. Tried resetting BIOS, but found that a jumper is needed so I attempted the screwdriver method. I also learned that the CMOS battery is completely hidden away, so good luck resetting that way. It's just a trash design and if you've handled motherboards before, you can feel and see where they skimped on nearly every aspect. To replace it I bought a GIGABYTE Aorus board. Used all the same parts as before, and got a successful POST on my first try after a MUCH easier time assembling. So the ASRock motherboard had died for a reason I still cannot figure out. Save yourself a headache and buck up for a real AM5 motherboard. Skip this cheap one, or you'll be kicking yourself later. ... show more

  • Cheapest Good AM5 Motherboard
Pros - Can tighten DRAM secondary and tertiary timings automatically in BIOS by setting DRAM Performance Mode to Aggressive. - PCIe slot #1 Gen 4x16 and slot #4 Gen 4x4 both connected directly to CPU. - M.2 slot #1 Gen 5x4 and slot#2 Gen 4x4. Cons - Takes 30 seconds to POST, even after the initial memory training. AMD is supposedly working on this. [Edit 2/27/23] BIOS update 1.18.AS04 AGESA ComboAM5 1.0.0.5c has fixed this. POST times now under 15 sec. - Only 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 on rear, but 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and 1 Type-C. - Only 1 fan header above CPU, and it only outputs 1A so might not drive a water pump + fans. The CPU2 2A header is at the rear near the audio outputs and a bit hard to access with GPU installed. Review - Currently the cheapest yet still decent AM5 motherboard. - B650 supports everything I need, and fits on a Micro ATX board. You don't really gain much with a full sized ATX B650 board because the PCIe lanes of the chipset are almost maxed out. However, an X670 board would benefit from full ATX. - Mine did not have a sticker over the RAM slots, but I heard it's hard to get off. ... show more
