Description

Known for durability, stability, and its rugged style, the gel-kahana 8 shoe offers our gel cushioning system for comfort and performance where the rubber meets the road or trail. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

  • Buyer Beware...
Size: 7.5 Color: Dark Steel/Pink Glow/Mint
I have never had a pair of Asics shoes not fit me in my size yet both pairs I ordered from Amazon were too small and the design was way off, as if these were knockoffs, not authentic Asics. Buyer beware! I went to a store before ordering this model on Amazon, just to make sure this particular model fit me in my regular size, and the authentic brand name shoe in the store fit me perfectly. What I received from Amazon wasn't even close, nor did the shoe design even look the same! If I could give these less than one star, I would. I'm a die hard Asics wearer, have bought them for years, so for two pairs in my size not to fit me, yet in a shoe store they fit awesome as usual, something is off with the shoes I've received from Amazon. ... show more

  • Helps with my pain
Size: 8.5 Color: Black/Island Blue/Pink Glow
This is my second pair. I also have the greenish/gray pair purchased at a department store and available on Amazon as well. I developed heel pain and plantar fasciitis wearing sneakers that had a minimal arch and were too wide for my narrow heel across the whole back of my foot. I basically had little support. The heel problem developed slowly until one day my left foot let me know time was up for the shoes I was wearing. One day OK, next day, Yikes!! I researched my problem then went to a store carrying lots of brands of shoes to try on while my foot was painful. Was so pleased to find these. There is an approval seal from the American Podiatric Medical Assn on the box. I hoped they could help and they have. They are tight and narrow across my heel and have lots of support. I held up all my pairs that caused this problem to compare the backs with the ASICS. Unbelievable. The old ones were at least twice as wide. Inside I also slide in an orthodic with a great arch and bottom padding right on top of the arch in the bottom liner that is built in there, although with a good orthodic maybe you wouldn’t need the liner and it can come out. Lots of places have inexpensive orthodics as does Amazon to try. They are worth a try. They all are a little different and I tried four different brands. Found the one I liked the best. Mine have a deep heel cup and good arch. I think using an orthodic will be trial and error for everyone or maybe you wouldn’t need one at all, but I have to say these shoes along with the orthodic insert have really worked. It will take a while to heal so my research says, but at least now I’m not limping, I’ve resumed my normal activities (I’m a daily walker), and along with some easy exercises for this problem and occasional recommended ice packs in the evening, I feel that I’m on the road to recovery. Things are definitely better and with two pairs of these shoes now I have a choice! Hope my experience helps someone else. Remember though it’s a slow recovery. ... show more

  • Wonderful Shoe, Dangerous in Wet Weather
Size: 8.5 Color: Titanium/Clearwater/Silver
This shoe is probably the best ASICS shoe I have ever purchased. I usually remove the insoles of my ASICS and replace with an arch support insert, but this pair of shoes was good right out of the box. I did have to re-lace them because they seemed so narrow I felt like Cinderella's Stepsister at first, but now they are fine. I am able to walk the dog on dirt trails, get through an exercise class, clean the house and run errands in comfort....as long as it is dry. We have had a really wet winter and I have nearly fallen several times in these shoes. If there is the least bit of water on the sidewalk or pavement or tile, they are so slick it is dangerous. I think I remember reading how slick these shoes were before I bought them, but I had no idea. It is like slipping on a banana peel slick. They have treads, but the treads don't provide any traction when wet. So...buy these shoes because they are wonderful, but do not wear them outside when it is wet! ... show more

  • Great trail runners
Another great pair. I've been wearing Asics for years and like the fit for my flat feet. Roomy toe box and well-fitting heels means zero blisters for me. These Gel-Kahanas have rugged tread for navigating rocky trails and uneven roads. The long stabilizer in the sole gives me the support needed to power up and down hills without making my (lack of) arches hurt. Love the color combos, I want them all! ... show more

  • These are too good to last long so I'm buying an extra pair now
Ok, these are the most comfortable sneakers I've ever owned. I'm a mostly neutral runner (very slight pronator) with average-to-wide feet and arches that are neither flat nor high. After getting burned on some of the most recent Gel-Noosa versions that made my hips hurt after a run, I tried the Gel-Kahana 8 not expecting much. Wow, was I surprised. Some have said the shoe runs small; it does, a bit, but in my case at least, my usual size fits snugly and feels great. It feels like my feet are being massaged as I move, which makes me want to walk, run, and take the stairs more often. No pain after a run. I can't wear my very thickest socks with these because they are too snug, but I can still wear a decent running sock with them. My only concern is that these are so good they'll disappear soon. So here I am buying a backup pair less than a full week after the original pair—which I've been wearing nonstop—arrived. ... show more

  • Great laces, nice color, good support
Size: 7 Color: Titanium/Clearwater/Silver
I had a knee strain and my doctor said the floppy slip-ons I was wearing to walk the dog, go shopping, etc. was the cause. Get some good supporting shoes with ties on top. This had great reviews. Unbelievable. From the initial day I could feel the difference with every step. Within four days I no longer had to bind my knee, and within 2 weeks the knee wasn't waking me up from sleep every time I rolled over. I wear them 15 hours a day. I hate pink and am not into loud colors. I happen to love both grey and turquoise--or light blue. What's surprising is in the past the laces would come untied 3-4 times per day unless I double-knotted them. These do not. I tie them once per day, single knot, and they are the perfect length. I bought the 7 medium. The toe box on these is nice; sometimes the toe box is too tight for me on size 7. I do not run. I have a high arch, and on these I was able to lift the existing inside liner and place my arch support underneath it. Now I can slip the shoe on and off never worrying about dislodging the arch support or have it move when the glue weakens. It stays put, and never looks like I have arch supports. ... show more
