  • Great high mileage joggers
These joggers fitted perfectly. They are incredibly comfortable and supportive. The cushioning is the best of any jogger I have worn. They are very stable when jogging on non sealed surfaces such as grass and sand. They have excellent breathability and do not get hot or sweaty. The lacing system works very well and enables a snug fit. I have had many admiring comments on the colour scheme. A refreshing change from the standard white shoe. They are one of the best value high mileage joggers on the market. ... show more

  • Great comfort--doesn't give sharp heels blisters
So this review will target those people with sharp heels like me. I get blisters with most shoes if I don't wear two pairs of socks--NOT THESE! They are so padded and comfy that I can wear regular cotton socks, not even the special workout Nike or adidas ones, and I won't get hot spots! If you don't like very comfortable and padded running shoes, go somewhere else. I sweat a TON and these do well with that too. I put little gel insoles in these to make them extra comfy but NOT necessary by any means. Also they look much better than the other brands at the exact price. ASICS was born a running company (Nike did not) so I trusted them. I had a first pair, those got stolen and I immediately bought another pair of them. I've had blue and red--both look great! I also have fairly wide feet (not hobbit-wide) and these are perfect. They also have the grey band on the instep which means I'm a pronator. ... show more

  • Durable and comfortable shoes
I used my first pair of ASICS GT-2160 shoes for about two years, typically five days a week. Then I asked a trainer where I exercise if there was a recommended period of use after which replacement for this type of shoe is recommended. She suggested replacement after one year of the use I was giving the shoes. Shortly after our conversation, the new ASICS GT-2160 shoes arrived. I felt a little guilty about abandoning the older shoes, but my feet are telling me it was a good move. I expect the new cushioning will keep a spring in my steps for at least another year. ... show more

  • Item review and order management was just perfect.
Cushioning, stability and appearence was better than expected. I run from 70-130 KM at week and my 10KM PR was 39:41, I expect to have a 17:30 for 5KM this Dic 24th. My Asics Gel 2160 will be with me during this special moment. i am 43 years old and i have been running for two years now. my goal is a marathon under 3 hours in six more months, that's why i need this type of quality running shoe. ... show more

  • Last great GT-2xxx shoe
I have worn these shoes since the upgrade from the 2150s. I have large (14) wide (2E) feet and these shoes were the best fitting, most comfortable and supportive jogging shoes I have had in the last 15 years. So of course they discontinued them. Having worn out all my back-up pairs of 2160s I tried the 2000s and then the 2000 2s and felt like I was running on planks of wood. Knee aches ensued. I have been trying the so-called "classic" 2170s for a few weeks and find them also disappointing - narrower in the toe box and "mushier" overall than the 2160s. My only complaint with the 2160s is that they were discontinued for NO GOOD REASON and I have yet to find a suitable replacement. ... show more

  • Solid, reliable, stylish, but pricey and needs update
This is my 2nd pair of 2160s after having had the 2150 and 2140 before that. As a runner, I'm following the rule of don't change what works. I'm actually not convinced it's this shoe model that enabled me to maintain a running program finally free of shin splint pain. It might be, or it might be the Superfeet insoles I use in them. The GT-2160 has a very well-designed sole that wears well and strikes the road with the right feel of stability, comfort, and weight. I like how it looks, and although I mainly use it as a dedicated running shoe, I do walk around in them and never suffer any foot fatigue specifically from this shoe, like I would from others. My biggest complaint may have more to do with a defect in my own feet and toes, more so than this shoe. I tend to raise my big toe upwards while running and walking. The Asics GT-2160 have a very thin mesh upper. Every pair of this line I've owned, winds up with holes near where this toe raise occurs after around 5 or 6 months of wear. This could be prevented if they would have designed a slightly larger outer protective area near the big toe. There is an added outer layer meant for this, but it falls about a half inch short, in the spot I need more material to avoid this issue. Otherwise, the rest of the shoe holds up very well. I just completed 450 miles of training on the prior pair, which I now use playing around the yard with my kids and short walks. I ran a 3:40 full marathon in this new pair I just bought, a personal best, my 3rd marathon at age 40. So I can't complain much, and I'll stick with this model, but wish it was about $20 cheaper, as I think this level of running shoe technology should be. $95 every 6 months for mostly mesh and hard rubber. ... show more

  • Perfectly good shoe, great value.
I've been training in Asics for a long time using the DS Trainer and Nimbus. The majority of my miles are in the Nimbus. I started having a new knee pain while training for a marathon and thought I'd try introducing a new shoe into my rotation. Not surprisingly the GT-2160 didn't solve my knee pain but it was a nice change. I'd describe it as a middle ground between the DS and the Nimbus. It is not as responsive as the DS but it is softer and more structured feeling. It is less soft, but still more structured feeling, than the Nimbus. I'm taking off a star for a certain dull/woodness in the feel. Of course all of this is hugely subjective. I will say the price is right on these. It's a great shoe for the money. Bottom Line: I'll buy another pair. For comparison I'm fairly unremarkable runner (low/normal arch, average width foot, neutral ankles, slightly external foot progression angle, heel striker, 65kg, 25-75mi/wk). ... show more
