  • Not True To Size, Less Supportive
These are my third pair of Asics stability / support running shoes: • My first pair, the GT-2000 5, U.S. Men's size 11.5 4E (XW) offered great mid-foot stability / support and a nice wide toe bed, the soles wore very well, as did the uppers, and the uppers provided good breathability. These really hugged my mid-foot with their upper sides construction and great cross sectional stiffness with their rigid mid-sole medial post. Their two negatives were they were not particularly well cushioned (over the years the soles became uncomfortable to even walk in, but that was literally after years and thousands of miles of wear), and the short tongue always needed re-adjusting. They did not offer very much in the way of reflective material, either. So in short, they were cool, very supportive, durable, and fit true to size. • My second pair, the Gel-Kayano 26, U.S. Men's size 11.5 4E (XW) offered great mid-foot stability / support and a nice wide toe bed, the soles wore very well, but the uppers did not, and the uppers provided poor breathability. These also really hugged my mid-foot with their upper sides construction and great cross sectional stiffness with their rigid mid-sole medial post. Their negatives were not being particularly well cushioned (over the years the soles became uncomfortable to even walk in for more than a few miles at a time), their uppers just self-destructed, and the tongue had to constantly be re-adjusted. I got three years of use and thousands of miles out of them, and I still wear them around my home property and when biking. They do not offer very much in the way of reflective material, either. So in short, they are warm, very supportive, durable (except for the uppers), and fit true to size. • My third and current pair are the Gel-Kayano 29, U.S. Men's size 11.5 4E (XW). These do not fit true to size as they are at least 1/2" longer at the insole, and they're quite narrow on my feet - almost fitting like an average "D" width. Yet, they have a lot of excess uppers material in the mid-foot (great for folks with a high in-step, but not flat-footed folks). Gone are my much liked and desired rigid mid-sole medial post, as well as the mid-foot hugging uppers material support, and the great heel support. The toe beds are no where near as wide as my Gel-Kayano 26 and GT-2000 5. Since I've only had these about two weeks, and have put less than 60 miles on them, I cannot yet speak to their durability. As it is late October, the uppers seem fine, but they appear to be less breathable than my Gel-Kayano 26s were. While these Gel-Kayano 29s do not provide nearly the stability / support of my two previous Asics stability running shoes, they are much more well cushioned, offering great comfort when I start out on the road, but I've noticed that my feet start to feel tired / fatigued / sore after only four or five miles. They offer no reflective material at all, save for one small area on the back upper heel of each shoe. So in short, they're probably going to be hot in warmer to hot weather, they're not very supportive, they do not fit true to size (long, and narrow in the toe bed), and despite being well cushioned, they lack that wear them all day comfort feel. Disappointing. If this disappointing shoe becomes the new trend with Asics, I will be switching to a new manufacturer. One who offers true to size supportive stability running shoes for over-pronators like me. Good things! 👍 ... show more

  • Hey, an actual 4E, but …
Size: 11 X-Wide Color: Metropolis/White
First off - yes, they run AT LEAST a half-size small. Go up, especially if you have duck paddles (very wide) for feet as I do. You’re going to need the room. By comparison, I have been in the New Balance 1080 series for a million years, and their newest 10 4E (as of 2022) fits about the same as these Asics in the 11 4E. The NB shoes are great - and probably the most “4E” of 4E shoes - but over the years their premier 1080 line has, in my opinion, sacrificed substantive lateral foot and heel lineup support on the altar of waif-like lightness. I’m at the point as an active exercise walker where I need proper support just as much as I need cushion. Also - by the by, I have been using the Superfeet Copper replacement inserts found here on Amazon. They’re in the vein of “over-the-counter custom orthotics” and not the cheapest thing you’ll ever buy, but if you need them for support, you need them for support. Let the shoes themselves provide the cushioning. These Asics shoes out of the box are supportive and the cushioning is good. The Superfeet insoles slid right in as replacements for the factory set for that dash extra of reliable support and foot lineup. One more note ~ the Hoka Bondi 8s are comparable to the New Balance 1080s and these Asics 29s, but if you have wide feet, forget it. Their “extra wide” is a 2E *at best*. The shoe soles themselves are wide as moon boots, and probably give great support, but the uppers are strictly for narrow feet. Epic fail on Hoka’s end. Don’t believe me - read the reviews. They were slammed so much on their site that *cough* I don’t see reviews any more. Maybe I missed them on a recent visit? Fit-wise for my fellow ducks I’d say the 4E NB 1080s are best, flowed closely by these Asics 29s. Hokas … damn they were cushiony … are not for wide feet, period, unless maybe you get 2 sizes too big. Even then … 🤔 But overall I’m going these Asics 29s for support AND cushioning AND width. 🏆 As of this writing the 30s are indeed available, but at about $60 more per pair. The new-to-me 29s got great reviews, so I thought I’d start with them. ... show more

  • Better than ever
Size: 10 Color: Black/Sun Peach
The new Kayano 29's are amazing. I have been using Kayano's for some time and absolutely loved them, this is lighter than my last 27's, Rearfoot GEL technology cushioning provides good shock absorption, is unbelievably amazing, and makes running so much easier, the heel support keeps the foot stable and provides a more comfortable stride. If you are looking for a comfortable shoe with fantastic padding, grip, and support for your runs, this is the shoe ... show more

From the moment they go on, they're a solid 10. My shoe required no break in period. I'm a former Nike React devotee who Asics on a whim. Wow, I'm never going back. Asics are solid, comfortable and offer great support. I'm on my feet all day and my feet never hurt after! OH - I order one 1/2 size bigger. ... show more

  • Asics Kayana Gel 29
Size: 10.5 Color: Black/Black
I stand a lot at a standing desk and I have a lumpy neuroma surgery scar on the ball of one foot, so comfort is of primary importance to me. I decided to use their sizing chart, measured my foot as they described, and ordered their recommended size which was a half-size larger than I normally wear. Surprisingly, it worked out and the shoes fit my feet very well and are super comfortable. There is layered foam in the footbed and some people might find them a little bit squishy, but for me they're excellent for comfort. I also like the stability system--whatever they're doing I feel more planted than I do with my other shoes. The shoes are a little lightweight but they do have a sole stiffener of some type built-in, which makes them rather more rigid than the typical shoes sold nowadays. All in all, a pretty good shoe, especially for the sale price of $99. ... show more
