  • New Balance
I read a story on a magazine for runners where they rank the best running shoes for people with flat feet. Reading the article carefully, one stands out. This shoe has a narrow toe box, and supportive, where the inside of your arch don't cave in. For decades, I've been trying find shoes and inserts to provide the proper arch support. But the "new thinking" is the opposite. Rather than supporting my feel at an un-natural position, this shoe supports it. It supports my flat feet in my natural position. And support them well. This is an "expensive" shoe, but I feel like wearing them everywhere. To sum it up. Positives. Narrow toe box at front. Very supportive for flat feet. Great for running. The shoe does "roll" like other running shoes. Not heavy, average weight IMO by feel. Negative? None really. It's not cheap. Not expensive for running shoes either. I may just wear them as my everyday shoes. But yet, don't want to wear these shoes out. Never felt more balanced, walking, running, and doing everyday stuff. ... show more

  • Most comfortable shoes I've consistently owned
I've been buying Gel-Kayano shoes for years. They're consistently the most comfortable shoe I've found for the money. I don't typically buy the newest model shoe because they're so much more expensive. Look for a generation or two older at a lower price (I've also bought prior generation shoes brand new on eBay, etc). Look good, feel good, play good. I think Prime Time said it?!? ... show more

  • Simply the best for runners.
This is my third Kayano in last 20 years (they last me about 7years) and I have to say this is one of those few product lines that have gotten better over time. The mesh on top is thicker compared to previous iterations so it is "less breathable", making this a better winter running shoe compared to last decade. The huge improvement in my opinion is the "gel" aspect, which started out as a heel feature but now expanded to cover %80 of the shoe. Your knees will thank you in the long run with the "shock absorbing" factor of these. The only downside right now is the feeling of missing the gel in the toe area/front of the shoes, which makes you "aware" that something is iffy, however in a couple of runs you get used to it. For the serious runners looking for a comfortable, breathable shoe that will last them many, many years, look no further - Kayano series have proven once again that they are the undisputed best in category for this price range. ... show more

  • Kayano 28s in wide are still the best I've used, but not as good as they once were...
I've had a pair of Kayano 20's for a few years now which have held up great and provided solid cushioning for close to 1,000 miles of mostly sub-5 mile runs. I now have about 400 mi on the Kayano 28's and there is clearly significantly faster wear taking place on the traction sole of the shoe vs the 20s. Perhaps traction is better with the 28's and that is the tradeoff, though I never noticed an issue with traction with the 20's. Perhaps the 28's are more cheaply made, but if so, the savings have certainly not been passed onto the consumer, as the 28's were more expensive than the 20's. Overall I like the shoes, they are very comfortable and supportive. The fit is great (went with wide this time as the 20s put a bit too much pressure on my small toes at the same size, 12 1/2). I just have a strong feeling I'm going to be worn through the soles in half the time (or even less than half) than the previous Kayano 20's. ... show more

  • One of The Best Running Shoes Ever Made
I am buying these Gel-Kayano's about 10 years after the last one. I am not disappointed. During my marathon running years I ran 23 marathons, and twenty 50km runs (31 miles), in these shoes and trained for more than 10,000 miles of running. After trying several brands, I settled on these, luckily fairly early in my running days. For amateurs, such as myself, I believe this is the best running shoe ever made. I tried at least a half dozen other brands and types, most of them, I did not use for more than a couple of hundred miles, because they caused "this or that" foot problems. I have good legs and feet for running; no pronation, arch, or asymmetry issues, which can cause some shoes to not work for you. I don't run anymore, and haven't run for 10 years, because of back problems and have been doing endurance bicycling. I have now started walking for fitness, especially during rainy days when biking is not fun. To get myself going I purchased these Kayanos and they are just as good as the last set. I also liked Amazon's "try before you buy" deal, because without that, I would not risk getting shoes that may not fit or have other problems. Since I am familiar with these shoes, I got the right size the first time. You do need to size up one size on these, at least in my experience. As to their performance in my experience, I still have a lot of my used-up shoes, which I have been using for everyday walking, shopping etc. I used to use them for 450-500 miles of running, which is on the high side, but I was not a very fast runner, and not capable of winning (I kept track of all running data in a spreadsheet including shoe mileages). I also ran one rain-soaked trail ultra-marathon in these, but did not finish (DNF!). I didn't do much trail running, and these shoes are not good for it. They got soaked and heavy and contributed to the quitting. A lot of elite runners didn't like these because they are heavier and can be slower than some shoes might be. Durability is not a concern for these runners. Their best shoe would be a light one that lasts them a hundred miles (time to break-in before the marathon, and one marathon). So, there you have it. I hope that your experience will be as good as mine. If not, you can always buy another brand next time. Running shoes don't last long, especially if you run in them. ... show more
