I take off a star because the material is not high-quality as I usually see in an ASICS product. That being said, it is not a fake, and it is adequate for the price point of fifty dollars. I am a walker and have used Asics for years. These new shoes are very comfortable and have interestingly designed soles for travelling off-road. I walk on-road, but I thought I would try them and they are great.

I've always liked Asics shoes. I considered them brand that had quality above their price range. I had a pair of Gel 4s that I wore only at the gym, and they lasted over 4 years. These new Asics are just not the same quality as before. The material is thinner, the insoles are not as comfortable, and the soles are very firm and unforgiving. I kind of expect that in a lot of products these days. A way that companies combat inflation is using cheaper materials to keep their prices down. This is definitely the case with these shoes. There are also a couple of oddities about these shoes. The soles are very narrow and they don't flare out from under the body of shoe to give you more base. They definitely do not provide the balance of my Gel 4s. Also, the arch area of the shoe is narrow, while the toe box is very wide. It's like a half medium, half wide shoe. Because of this, you will find that you need to loosen the laces all the way up the shoe to release some of the tightness. And like most shoes these days, they are designed for flat feet, so if you have high arches, you will need inserts to be comfortable. These shoes run small. I needed to go up a half size from 11. Definitely go up from your normal size or the shoes will be too narrow in the arch and too short for your feet. (I guess that's the actual definition of too small.) Finally, just get rid of the shoelaces that come with them and get a regular pair of woven cotton laces. These are nylon laces, and they don't like to stay tied. Also, if you use the uppermost eyelets on the shoes, they are not long enough so you will barely be able to tie them. Overall, are these shoes good? Yes, they are for the price. Are they worth getting? Probably not because you will find at least one aspect of the shoe that annoys you enough to wish you didn't have them. I say you should pass on Asics shoes for now if this is the quality that they are producing. It is not near what you would expect from Asics you might have bought before. ... show more
