I am using it mainly for a scoop, but it would be fine for any kind of work you need a small shovel for. This would also be a nice shovel for a child. Probably 4 or 5 y.o. and up. Certainly a mini shovel. A good fit for the truck or even car at this size. Solid, with the same construction as more expensive larger tools of the kind. Because of the size ergonomics are a wash, it is after all a mini shovel. It seems sturdy enough with possibly the same issues as larger shovel of this style like the d handle always being a weak spot. It is a plastic handle end rather than the sturdier metal with a wood grip, but with a smaller payload area it should be fine. The sticker was the biggest issue, peeling off in little bits and leaving gobs of residue behinds. 1st world problems though. ... show more

This narrow shovel works great for transplanting when you need to work in narrow spaces between other plants. I am short, so the shorter length works better for me than a regular spade. Got this set of two shovels so a certain set of two kids could stop complaining about who's turn it was to use the single "good" shovel we previously had (and now I can use one too without sharing). What's to say? They look, feel, and work exactly as expected with zero complaints. The shovel arrived in a box with no padding, just inside a plastic bag. A dent on the tip of the shovel already showing rust. As well as rust at the connection point between the metal and handle. I’ll sand and use touch up paint but shouldn’t have to.

We go to the beach in NC most spring breaks with grandsons (and their parents). We have gone through any number of shovels and toys, and even with what we’re supposed to be “premium” shovels last year from a beach store, one of them bent with normal use. These shovels were a hit, certainly held up well, and both boys enjoyed using them. The bonus for us is that both boys are scouts and these shovels will work well for overnight camping use.
