We've been using this for about a month now with the "main" router on the 1st floor and the "satellite" unit positioned centrally on the second floor; both units in the kit are identical, so it doesn't matter which one you use as your main router and which for the satellite. We have seen an INCREDIBLE improvement in download speeds over our previous setup, which was the NeatGear Nighthawk X10 R9000 AD router (which STILL sells for close to $400 after all this time) coupled with the Nighthawk EX7700 range extender. All of the little nooks and crannies on our second floor are now seeing 100+Mbps wifi download speeds off of our 400Mbps broadband connection, which is the fastest we can currently get in our area. The R9000 and EX7700 combo would give us 40Mbps tops on the second floor, so seeing those speeds doubled is impressive. The system was easy to set up using the Maxx app and we were up-and-running in about ten minutes. After seeing the major jump in wifi speeds we fell in love with this unit... ...until we noticed, as many others have pointed out, the extreme limitations in network customization offered by the bare-bones app. We have 2 PCs on the second floor that sport WiFi 6 networking cards, and were delighted by how quickly we were downloading huge files on both machines. Delighted for a while, that is. I was transferring a large amount of files from Google Drive to one of our WiFi 6 enabled PCs, and the speed was significantly lower than it was for the download I had completed just a couple of hours prior. Why, you ask? Because my brand new, $650 mesh system decided it was a good idea to connect my WiFi 6 PC to the network the using WiFi 4, 802.11n protocol at that particular time. I don't know why, it just thought it was a good idea, I guess. Network traffic in the house was very low at the time, as well. And therein lies the caveat: you cannot pick which band, or protocol, or ANYTHING at all, with the current app. It will show you what is connected to the network and give you a speed test, both for total bandwidth at the hub router and for WiFi throughout the house. Beyond that, unfortunately, it's worthless. If I have WiFi 6 devices I would like to be able to have them connect to WiFi 6 ax when I want them to, not when the router and satellite want them to; alas, I have no input at all, and we are ruled by the cruel dictator that is our new SurfBoard Maxx Pro Mesh system and the crazy decisions it makes. I'm giving the system four stars as the performance is amazing when it actually decides to use its bandwidth appropriately, and I don't regret upgrading from the R9000 router and its useless AD band one bit. I am withholding one star and joining forces with the MANY others reviewing Arris' brave foray away from modems and into the world of WiFi 6 routers by asking... nicely... for a major app overhaul.     • You lose control of network and gain nothing in speed

First off, I have a tech background so my expectations may be different than others who buy this. I purchased the W31 to take over router capabilities on my gigabit xFinity internet service. I have the Samsung S10+ which has ax WiFi and I have the X570 motherboard and AMD R7 3700X for my desktop so both my clients in this review are fully 802.11ax compliant and fully compatible. On the W31 functionality- the setup is very smooth and well done with the app which brings up my biggest gripe and the reason for the poor rating. As a caveat, if you want a "set it and forget it" solution then this is great for you unless you are expecting some major speed improvements over your existing 802.11ac network, The APP is all you get. That's it. There is no web page to access the detailed settings. You have absolutely no access to or the ability to change the WiFi channels or remove the consolidated 2.4 and 5Ghz channels. You also cannot kick a device off your network, you lose all control except to create the network name. In terms of performance I experienced a considerable drop in speed. My xFinity network is split in to 2.4 and 5Ghz networks and I consistently achieve over 600Mbs on my desktop WiFi. On the consolidated W31 network and with a variety of different adapter configurations but never hit over 300 Mbs over a 3 week period with the W31 as my only router. The minute I removed the W31 and went back to my XB6 xFinity router I was again hitting 600Mbs and over consistently. I did not test this on ethernet. For me, the loss of all ability to configure any of the crucial elements of this router and the loss of the ability to directly control what devices were on my network in real time created a low score for this. I really feel that these manufacturers need to allow those who want that detailed control to be able to do that. But with the issues of a loss of WiFi speed too, there is no reason for me to ever use this router again. ... show more

I was attracted by the AX11000 speed at the beginning. However, this router cannot separate 2.4G&5G signal by different SSID. Therefore, my smarthome devices that are using 2.4G wifi cannot link with my iphone(my iphone uses 5G wifi), my printer, security cameras are disconnected with my phone. I communicate with Arris company by email but they can’t help me because this product doesn’t have this function to separate Wi-Fi signal. Many other brands offer this function to their router. I do not accept their explanation. ... show more

    • Good WiFi...if you don't need advanced features. Kind of a let down.
Style: 1 AX11000 Router
Setup was simple, wifi speed tests show great throughput on gig-Internet service. If you need advanced features this is not the system for you. No control over IP addressing for local network, there is no DDNS, and no loopback NAT from what I can tell. I've noticed that I got booted off running speed tests and then had to reconnect to WiFi...could be a fluke, but it happened a few times. Also noticed some devices were extremely slow to connect...for instance, I have about 30 devices on my network, but at any one time I could only see about 18 to 20 on the network. Coverage seemed decent but definitely not 400% better, though that could be because I have no WiFi 6 capable devices. Hope Arris releases an update to get some of these advanced features incorporated. Not everyone has a basic network at their house. ... show more
