This works perfectly for mounting a floodlight camera. This fits Dutch lap siding. I also, painted this to match the color of the light. I was able to drill through the siding, OSB board, and the wide side of 2x4 that was an upright for the roof truss with a 1/2 inch bit. I used the center knockout and ran the 14-2 Romex through. Two 2 1/2 inch exterior decking screws and the mount is rock solid. I would recommend this. I can't attest to the durability yet. My only complaint is that these should come in different colors from the factory. I will use this again when I mount a second camera. For what ever it is worth I cannot rotate these photos...damn Amazon ... show more

    • Mounting block for Dutch lap siding
The mounting block is an excellent option when adding a light fixture in the exterior of your house with siding already installed. I installed a motion detecting light above my garage door with minimal effort. Mounted the Arlington block with 2 screws, pulled the new wire into the new fixture, connected the wires, mounted the light and used white silicon caulk to deal the block to the siding. I highly recommend this rather than removing the siding to mount a nail on mounting block and trimming the old siding. ... show more

These mounts are hard to find for the Dutch siding. Just bought a house and the light futures was just screwed into the siding. Full of mud daubers also. Once I mounted them to the wall, I ran a bead of chalk wrong them. Bought new lights and looks way better.

dropped a start for weatherproof as you need to caulk once install to make weatherproof. But simple and easy installation to add a light on existing exterior without installing new light or switch box.

    • best way to surface mount lights
This box is very shallow. When mounting certain fixtures to this box, you need to knock out the center hole to make room for the mounting hardware of the light fixture to fit into the box. The top of this box has a small gap away from the siding. I recommend using caulking to fill the gaps. This device really is the easiest way to surface mount a light fixture. It was relatively easy to install following the written instructions. I had to modify things a little when I installed the security light i use with this product, but it was not a big deal. I am actually buying a second one
