Update: Arana reached out to me and offered 1) to send me the missing clip, and 2) to reship the correct sized struts. In fact I had already ordered, received and installed their 22.5lb struts which work perfectly. With a replacement for the missing clip I am happy to keep the 100lb units since it was my own fault for not properly weighing the lid before ordering in the first place, I may find a use for them someday. Overall I find Arana to be decent and very helpful and they are my go to now for any such future purchases. Original: One strut arrived missing one of the metal clips that retain the ball. Naturally I didn’t notice that until I’d already installed the other one. In any event they’re too strong for my application. I installed the second one without the retainer clip and could not close the lid. The lid weighs 25lbs as measured using a luggage scale and the guidance from the listing. While this is clearly less than the listing these struts are replacing ones from another vendor that were in the correct range and would not hold the lid open at all. The lid is 8ft long and 41 inches wide, made of a 1x4 border with two cross pieces and a sheet of 29ga metal covering it. I cannot compress these ones even putting my entire 180lb weight on them. I don’t know what if anything that means.

Updates.. I had trouble attaching these to 10mm supports.. both previous types I have used would snap on or off. These would not. It turns out that a tiny retaining wire needs to be physically removed first. Once that was done they fit just fine (but good luck putting the wire back in!). More information: the original ball mounts for the bed support in our TV were also ten mm. But not strong enough for the increased pressure that we needed. I suggest replacing your original mounts with the ones from this company. Finally , we upgraded to a king size standard mattress, and the 200 lbs cylinders were a bit stronger than we needed, maybe a step lower would be better. Customer support DID reach out to me to make things right.. that's a big plus in their favor. My original review follows: These would not fit the existing mounting balls. I ordered the correct ones and they wouldn't fit those either. advertised as requiring 10mm balls, 10mm balls can not be fit, squeezed, nor hammered in to place. I guess I'll take them out to the drill press and make some modifications.

Wow!! A LOT of these to choose from. I can also see how you might not get the right size if you are careful when ordering. I needed these for the topper I have on the bed of a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. The originals had been bad for awhile. I got my measurements and then decided on this brand because of the reviews. These are a couple of pounds more than the originals. Sometimes more seems like it might be better, but with struts I recommend sticking with what is recommended. A couple of pounds didn't make a huge difference, but I can't imagine what a few more pounds could do for both popping up when opening and resistance when closing. These pop the lift gate right up and hold it right where it needs to be so just right for what I needed. Installation was simply snap on. Make sure you install them the correct direction. Instructions are included. Will have to see how long they last and to see how they work in colder weather (summer right now).
