Description

The striking cerulean blue coloration of these dream blue velvet shrimp adds elegance and a soothing ambiance to any aquarium set-up! These shrimp look stunning, clear your tank, and are a blast to watch! They are very active and breed very quickly. These are the same species as red cherry shrimp and neon yellow shrimp (Neocaridina davidi, formerly Neocaridina heteropoda). Care requirements for blue velvet shrimp are essentially the same as red cherry shrimp, and they are just as prolific. We generally ship young adult shrimp that are already of breeding age. These are freshwater shrimp and are very popular for planted tanks and community tanks. Many people use them in large aquariums for management. Some younger shrimp have not reached their full potential yet and will become a bright blue color as long as they are comfortable in the tank. RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: - PH level range: 6.5 to 7.5 - Temperature range: 72 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit - Water type: Soft or hard, as long as it remains stable - Recommended Aquatic Arts tank mates: Other types of dwarf shrimp (such as Neon Yellow Shrimp, Amano Shrimp, etc.), various types of snails (such as Nerite Snails, Mystery Snails, Sulawesi Snails, etc.). They can also be kept with small to medium-sized, non- aggressive fish. - Additional notes: Relatively easy to care for - similar to other dwarf shrimp species. Dwarf shrimp prefer to live in tanks with live aquatic plants (such as java moss, willow hygro, green cabomba, etc.). This is because dwarf shrimp like the cover that plants provide.

  • Poor marketing.
All of the shrimp I received are 1/4 to 5/16 of an inch long. They are not breeeding adults and my mollys are definitely going to eat the 3 of five remaining alive upon delivery. Good thing they sent one extra! (3 dead BABY shrimp). Also it’s listed as if they are blue dream shrimp which are more desirable. But they aren’t, they’re blue velvet shrimp. ... show more

  • Healthy, young and beautiful blue shrimp.
The shrimp arrived in excellent condition despite being shipped during the winter. The seller packages the shrimp expertly. They were in a gas permeable bag, in a Styrofoam cup, in a box packed tightly with insulating material. The shrimp are blue, just like in the photo posted by InvertObsession. The ones that I received are quite young (all the better, in my opinion) and they arrived with a nice piece of rich green java moss. The shrimp are a great addition to my planted aquarium (stocked with a bristle nose pleco, a couple of dojo loaches and a small school of neon tetras). They all do quite well together. I had some questions for the seller (about water parameters) and I found him to be very knowledgeable, responsive and friendly. This is my second purchase from InvertObsession and it certainly will not be my last. I appreciate the prompt attention, fulfillment of the order and the safe shipping of very healthy invertebrates (the first order was for assassin snails). I do want to make mention of the prices at InvertObsession: I don't know how assassin snails and blue velvet shrimp are priced in other parts of the country, but they were quite a bargain for someone living in Houston, TX. I had found blue shrimp for 15 bucks apiece and the assassin snails that I found (very tiny ones) were nearly 10 dollars each. That being said, I feel that I got healthy stock at a very reasonable price from InvertObsession ... show more

  • They are smaller blue velvets
All shrimp arrived alive but as the other reviews have accurately stated they were quite small with only one being barely larger than a half inch. They are definitely blue velvet. Not blue dream. I expected that so I was ok with it. Just know they are blue velvets. I put three stars mostly due to the small size as this makes it difficult for aquarium owners like me with other fish in the tank. No one wants their new shrimp to become dinner ... show more

  • Cute but...
two died in the first week :'( I was really sad but the rest of them seem to be doing ok! I thought that the moss would be in the bag with the shrimp but instead it was a piece of cotton stuffing, the moss was in a different bag but with the package. They arrived two days early witch got me stressed because the tank was not ready. But over all the shrimp are awesome, cute, and fun to look at! ... show more

  • Shrimp Died, Poor Customer Service
Within 24 hours of receipt 4 of the blue velvet shrimp had died, but the 5 cherry shrimp I also bought are still all fine and zipping around. I emailed the vendor advising of the loss and detailing the parameters of the tank. The vendor advised that the PH is too high, the 80 F temp is to high, and that the tank should have been seasoned (I did put some water from a healthy tank in it),and suggested I get some product from them to fix the "problem". This does not answer the question of why only the blue ones died. I believe the blue velvet stock was not as robust/healthy as the cherry shrimp. I have had aquariums for years, and currently have 3 other healthy tanks so while not an expert, I have some experience. It's too bad- I really wanted to write a great review for these guys as they have a great story. You never know about someone until you have a problem... ... show more

  • Great Experience, Beautiful Shrimp
I received 7 adults and 1 very small shrimplet alive and in great condition. All were a vibrant blue upon arrival even with the stress of transport. The little guys almost seemed like they were enjoying their little adventure, due to how well they were packaged. The packaging was well insulated (with all recyclable insulation!) The shrimp arrived in a little under two days after being shipped, which is especially important with live inverts. The adults were all around 1/2 in and the shrimplet was around 1/4 in, maybe smaller. After I acclimated the shrimp to my tank, I had 8 healthy and happy shrimp swimming around! They have now been in my tank for almost a week and are all still in good health and are very active. I was very impressed with the entire experience, and I wouldn't hesitate to order again! ... show more

  • They arrived fine put all of them died within a week
They arrived fine put all of them died within a week. It may have been from a decoration that I had in the tank that was also bought on Amazon. I read a review on the decor after my shrimp died that said they thought the item had killed their fish. Not sure I want to spend this kind of money to find out though. I am disappointed, their color was beautiful. ... show more

  • Can't find the shrimp
the shrimp was so small I could barely see them. I was able to locate one or two at first but it's been a week since I saw one.
