I like it and is very easy to set up, the 42mm is the perfect size for me and it feels very good and isn’t heavy. Love the color but wish like the previous generation I had that it provided an extra band that is longer for a more comfortable fit. If you have an older generation it is definitely worth the upgrade but other than that stick to the others. Otherwise a bit expensive

First I should say I bough this watch because I wanted the more continuous heart rate monitoring. I traded in the last Ultra for this watch. The claim is the Series 12 takes one's hr every 5 seconds. On me it does not work that way. In the first place it does not even display the last hr and it takes way over 5 seconds to get an update. I loved my Garmin for its continuous hr but the Apple Watch has other features I like and all the sleep monitoring, work out readiness, etc have just not proven to be backed scientifically. More importantly, for me, they just don't seem to work. I have had some of my best workouts when the various watches and bands I have used say I should be in the grave and horrible work outs when they say to put the pedal to the metal. I wanted something simple that had decent HR monitoring due to some heat issues I have. So, my rating is based solely on that. I suspect all the other features I like on Apple Watches will work as usual but I got this one solely for HR monitoring and so far it sucks.

⌚ I already had a Series 9 45mm but I found over time that it was slightly bigger than I preferred, especially if you put a case on it which adds about 2mm. Since I wanted to upgrade I got the Dark Bronze with a 42mm case this time. There weren't any defects with the construction of the watch, and I did an extremely thorough inspection it, directly under a bright LED spotlight, it did arrive I guess a little dirtier than I expected of Apple, the back of the watch (the sensor side) had some cloudy residue on the glass, but I always wipe clean new Apple Watches with a damp microfiber towel so not a big deal, a wipe down cleaned it up. ⌚ I attached some pictures showing the real world case size differences between the Series 9 45mm and Series 12 42mm, with guidelines too so you can eyeball the difference, if you're interested in them. You'll note it's obviously smaller due to being 42mm instead of 45mm, but it's also thinner, it's thinner not because it's Series 12, but because Series 12 was after Series 10, Series 10 was when they made it thinner and they just carried the thinness over to Series 11 and 12. 👑 The crown on the Series 12 was widely discussed on the internets as protruding outward more than on prior watches. In person it matches what I saw and was already expecting, yeah it's a bit out there. If you're going to use a case (like I do) it isn't a big deal and is actually preferable, since the case adds a slight thickness that both hides the "protrusion" and actually makes it stick out enough to offset the thickness of the case. If you had a case on without the protruding crown, the crown would actually be a little too deep into the case, making it harder to grasp with your fingers, especially if your fingers are big. If you're going to apply one of those TPU or EPU screen protectors: 🫧 After applying it even "perfectly" you can still have air bubbles, the big ones can be massaged out, do this by using the included microfiber towel between your finger and the screen, push/sweep the bubble toward the closest edge with a firm press toward that direction, do this repeatedly and it will make its way across to the edge slowly and out. 🫧 For smaller air bubbles (possibly left by massaging big air bubbles), just leave them alone! Don't think the screen protector failed and don't peel it off! Just wait, if you wait about six hours they disappear on their own. I had about six to eight small bubbles that I was convinced would be there forever, but they magically disappeared after waiting hours. You can still use your new watch while waiting. ❌ Also a big thumbs down for the September device rollout, it was a disgrace, the new Series 12 and Ultra 4 watches crashing as much as four times a day, new iPhone 18 Pros crashing on Face ID repeatedly, the issue was so bad and generating such negative press that they released an emergency WatchOS 27.0.1 hotfix on 9/24/26 and they're planning on releasing an emergency iOS 27.0.1 hotfix soon after. Unacceptable for a trillion dollar company to fail so badly, Apple's customer service hotline was a joke and a half (as usual), they wasted people's time telling them to do this, do that, even telling some people to return the device, then it turned out to be a WatchOS issue that required Apple to fix it...
