The original one had a back and front to and also protected the iPad around the sides and as the iPad slipped into the back of the cover which held it snuggly in place. Now, for the same price, you get half of the case - that's correct - there's just a front cover for the screen and a magnetic piece that connects to the side of the iPad, so both the back of the iPad and and the sides/button/corners of the iPad are exposed. If you're clumsy this is not the case for you. If you are OCD, this is not the case for you as iPad is exposed to all kinds of germs when traveling (think airport security bins, airplane tray table, etc.).

This cover is for my iPad 10.2". I had a dark grey cover & it worked perfectly but I didn't really care for the look with my silver iPad. I like the Apple cover because you can remove it quickly & makes the iPad easier to handle. I really wanted a silver cover but Apple doesn't offer one! I bought the white cover & love it. If Apple would make a silver cover I will buy it. It is pricey at $49, but you get what you pay for & it's hard to beat Apple quality.

It was easy to put on my iPad. It seems durable & like it will do a good job protecting the screen. It only protects the front & is expensive for what it is. Therefore, not a good value for the money at a cost of $49.00.

Bought a used-like new cover, saved about 20% over new. Cover might as well be new, was still in the Apple packaging and was clearly never used on an ipad. Last cover lasted 4+ years.
