While I am very disappointed that Apple did not provide a back case for sale this go around, I was fully aware of the fact that I was buying a Smart Cover for my iPad Pro 10.5. I purchased the Black color first as it was the only one available to send right away. I received it the same day I received my iPad Pro 10.5”. The leather is sturdy, supple and most of all, protective of the front of my iPad Pro 10.5". The texture of the leather has a nice feeling and the Black color is so far showing no signs of wear. The only thing that is disturbing, is when I fold the cover to the back of my iPad Pro while it's still attached, so that I can lay my iPad Pro on the table, the protruding camera lens has left an impression in the leather in the shape of the lens. Not cool, but not a deal breaker. More of a reason for Apple to come out with matching either silicone or leather cases for the back of this iPad Pro. I do love the Smart Cover with my iPad Pro but I still need something to protect the back. All in all, I do really like this leather Smart Cover. If you remember previous Leather Smart Cover offerings this one is the same as those. I can use the Leather Smart Cover to prop my iPad Pro 10.5” up for typing on the keyboard and so far it has not fallen flat. I figure with the way it’s folded within itself, it will last a long time with this function and shouldn’t wear out. Folded and propped up in the viewing position is a great way to watch the iPad at my desk or even on the Train. It’s really strong in this position and it doesn’t tip over even when I push on it. When I fold the cover and stand it up vertically it is strong and doesn’t tip over but I rarely use it in this position. I did purchase a White Silicone smart cover by Apple and am promptly returning that. I prefer the leather. It's more premium feeling, looking and I think it will hold up much better than the silicone IMO. The price is not ideal, but with Apple we all know things they sell are usually not “affordable” but they are attainable if you don’t mind parting with the cash and know what you’re getting. Update: I’m not a fan of aftermarket back cases for my iPad Pro 10.5 but I received one from iBlazon purchased here at Amazon and it has solved 4 issues. #1 Protection for the back of my iPad Pro 10.5” #2 iPad Pro is now not slippery to hold. Since installing the back case, I’m able to securely hold the iPad Pro without it being slippery. #3 The camera lens does not leave an impression in the leather Smart Cover when folded back any more as the case is a barrier. #4 The camera lens is also protected when I lay the iPad Pro on the table on its back.

First, I want to comment on the supplier. The cover was described as Used/Like New. I'd like to report that it was BRAND NEW. I'm not sure if the seller had to put used to allow for the discounted price but it was new/sealed in the Apple box. Now as to the cover itself. I've had iPads for a while. When they first came out years ago there wasn't a lot of choice for covers and none covering the screen. YES: it's overpriced and expensive (Unless you can find one discounted) but so was the iPad. You pay for what you get. The quality of the leather screen cover is A1 and the magnet is strong. I also have an all-in-one back/cover which was much cheaper and works just fine but it is nice to be able to pull off the screen cover and have the iPad and back only; thinner which works better on the elliptical and lighter when hand holding. Second and another good reason is that I also got a Logitech Slim Combo keyboard. It has the smart connect to the iPad and also a magnetic connection to the tablet. The keyboard works great but is bulky and heavy for everyday use. Coupled with the Smart Cover I can attach the keyboard when I need it and use the Smart Cover when I don't. I have a iBlason back and the Slim Combo also has a back which I use when primarily using the keyboard. It’s a lot of stuff and adds some cost but as a package I feel it is much more versatile than the Apple keyboard (which is way more expensive, less stable and has no back light or function keys). The package give you a full up computer configuration, a lighter iPad with back stand using the Smart cover, a lighter travel package with the iBlason and Smart Cover and a lighter still reader when you take the Smart Cover off. It is a given that this is overpriced. With that out of the way, I want to say that this is a REALLY nice cover. I got the midnight blue one and it is a nice color. It is of course thin, detaches easily and re-attaches easily. The flap on the side that you open it from is also magnetized, less strongly of course than the spine, and that makes it nice and flat when you have the cover open. It sticks=s to the back of the iPad so that it doesn’t flop while you are holding it. The one thing I don’t like is that if you fold the cover into a triangle so that it becomes a stand for the iPad, it is wobbly, it may or may not stay in place, especially if you are trying to use it upright, in fact it isn’t even that grate at a gradual incline. You have to position it just right to use it as a stand. I have an external stand that I often use which is handy at home but elsewhere, this cover does not really do the job as a stand. You might need something thicker and clunkier if you want a cover that easily doubles as a stand.

I love saddle brown and have the Apple saddle brown color iPhone case. It’s beautiful. I own another Smart Cover for iPad Pro 10.5” and I’ve been very happy with it, so I bought it in saddle brown when I saw Amazon was selling it for about 25% cheaper than the Apple store. Unfortunately, it looks ugly. Now, that’s subjective. You might like it, and others probably like it, and their opinion is just as valid as mine. But I think it doesn’t even look like leather. (It *is* leather.). It certainly doesn’t look as good as the Apple leather iPhone case in saddle brown. I’m sending it back. If you still want it, I’d urge you to see it in person at your local Apple store or Best Buy so you know exactly what you’re getting. Maybe you’ll like it, and that would be great. But if you’re like me, this will save you the trouble and expense of a return. Aside from the looks, the functionality is excellent. It protects the screen nicely. The screen turns off when you close it, and turns on when you open it. And the stand feature works perfectly in the upright or flatter orientation.
