I'm a big fan of the Smart Cover in combination with an inexpensive back cover. (I like the fully transparent TPU back covers that show off the beauty of the iPad, Amazon has them for $8 or so.) The Smart Covers come in lots of fun colors, and the stand functionality always works well for me (as long as it's on a surface like a table, not so much if it's on my lap). Because the iPad Mini 4 is now three years old (I'm writing this in August 2018), you might be able to find a good deal on one of these. I got mine for $21 here at Amazon (from a 3rd party seller). Tip: also consider picking up an affordable bluetooth keyboard -- it really changes the experience of using an iPad Mini, especially since there are very good productivity apps for the iPad like MS Word, Excel, OneNote, Dropbox, etc. The one I'm using is an Anker (cost $21) and it works great with my iPad Mini. It's about the same size and quality as the Apple Magic keyboard at 1/4 the price. It has a really good typing feel to it, and it's super thin and light. It's by far the most useful iPad accessory I've ever purchased. I think Amazon carries a few other brands that are similarly affordable.

I was looking for a protective cover for my recently purchased IPad Mini 4. I was hesitant to pay the extra amount for this product, and am frustrated that the Apple IPad products come in two separately priced/purchased pieces like they used to. You must purchase a Smart Cover for the top half, and Silicone Case for the bottom half. That being said ......after looking around locally, and trying a few products for fit, as well as extensively reading online reviews, I decided to give this item a try. This seller was the only one with the Aqua Blue color choice (which I love), so I forged ahead even though it was a little more expensive! Wow! Am I glad I did. Even though it was supposed to take 5 days or more for delivery, it came in two days, and in excellent packaging. It fits my IPad Mini way better than anything else! The color and feel is outstanding. Even though it cost extra, it was well worth the price, protects very well, and the seller was excellent! I couldn't be happier!

I bought my Smart Cover through Amazon instead of Apple specifically so I could get it in turquoise, which wasn't available at the Apple online store when I bought the new iPad mini 4. It's a sweet, soft seafoam-y color, which is just what I wanted and is beautiful. Function-wise, it's the same basic Apple Smart Cover, with some minor improvements like a hinge which sits more securely on the device than was the case with previous versions. It fits the mini 4 perfectly, and it works flawlessly with Apple's matching silicone case, which is great. But I sure wish Apple would develop a similarly non-bulky cover that would allow me to use the mini 4 in portrait mode (reading while eating lunch, for example) without needing some sort of external stand. Even in landscape mode, I've never found folding the cover into a triangle shape to work very well. As a cover and on-off switch for the mini 4, though, it's great.

I actually bought this for my iPad mini 5 because at the time Amazon was out of stock on smart covers for the mini 5 and I wanted it to match the Apple silicon case that I also bought. With that out of the way I must say that it fits the mini 5 perfectly and definitely adds much value to the mini as you can stand it up to watch videos or lay it down in typing mode. It being an Apple product it is a bit more expensive than say a 3rd party accessory but itโs also in my opinion more convenient as itโs magnetic and just snaps onto the side of your iPad mini 4 or 5. Iโd recommend it to anyone who doesnโt mind paying a bit more for a 1st party accessory and likes the convenience of how Apple products work so well with Apple accessories.

Don't be fooled, this is not lavender, it's actually light gray. Not a single person asked has mistaken this color for anything other than gray. These iPad Mini 4 covers (I have two) are also much more sloppy than the previous iPad smart covers I've had, they are actually slightly oversized for the tablet and skews up and down easily when shut, giving it a sub-premium feel. If I hadn't tried more than one I would have seriously guessed it to be an inauthentic knock-off cover. It's still nicely useful because the magnetic latch is easy to use so you can attach and remove the cover at will, but this is definitely the worst Apple Smart Cover I've used yet.

Got it in the mail today and have been using it a fair amount. The magnet is STRONG and really holds on well. Sometimes it feels like there is a back to the case, and I have to remember that it is bare on the back. Inside is soft and luxurious for the screen, and even smells nice :) But I must have gotten it on sale or something, because it was only $15.99+tax, because $35-40 is WAY too much for such a simple thing. But it is awesome, and I recommend it highly when it is on sale.

I purchased the turquoise blue cover. It covers the screen well and stays attached to the iPad mini. Protects the screen adequately and seems to be robustly designed. On the downside, it is already stained (should have gotten a darker color, I guess) and it doesn't protect the sides of the iPad at all (my fault - should have looked more closely at the photos - I thought it was a case, not just a cover). I will be ordering a more robust case.
