Great light weight vise for small fragile stuff

I just wanted a small vice that I can use to hold little pieces of wood for sanding. This is going to do exactly that. And since it just clamps on to a surface (with a surprisingly big) clamp, I can take it wherever I want to work -- so that's cool. But don't expect the highest quality casting/machining/fit & finish. It was $20. I opened up the main jaw and a bunch of metal shavings came with it. Not a huge deal to me, it still clamps tight. I'm chalking it up to quick manufacturing processes to save cost. This will do the job for me, and for the price, I'm not upset. Edit: there's one Allen screw that holds the clamping part of the vice to the mount part. Thats directly under the main drive screw and I cant get a tool in there to tighten it back up. So while my work is being held tight, and it's not coming off of the work bench, its still flopping and wobbling when I use it. ... show more

I needed something to hold some kitchen knifes for sharpening, this was more than adequate for the task. The only disappointment was that, the vise head could only be rotated to lay flat in one position, and due the fact that the mounting base couldn't be reversed, gave me a somewhat difficult angle to sharpen the blade. However, after some re-adjusting, on my part, I was able to complete the task, and sharpen the blades quite comfortably. This did give a sturdy platform to hold the blades and keep them fairly solid, for the process. Over-all I'm quite happy with this purchase, and would buy it again. ... show more

I had a bit of trouble securing an aluminum tube for dremel cutting. After some tweaking, though, it did its job. I would have purchased a heavier duty vise, but I really like this one’s ability to easily adjust its hold angle. Also, as a bit of a diy crafter, this vice won’t be overkill on small objects and it’s attachment type makes it versatile, allowing for use on work surfaces other than my workbench. Overall, I’d prefer a vice with a more dependable hold on heavy duty usage, but this one is definitely a value for the money. ... show more

    • Basic small vise with a flaw
If you don't expect too much it will do the job. The jaws are covered with rubber caps. Underneath the jaws appear to be powder coated like the rest of the vise, not ground flat metal surfaces as one might expect. The slide is rather lose before you tighten it. All that I can live with. The only serious design flaw is the knob on the screw used to mount the base to the table. When I tried to remove the vise this plastic knob just unscrewed from the screw instead of loosening the screw... So if you plan to frequently unmount the vise you may have to use pliers or fix this design flaw somehow. ... show more
