Description

Ampersand Art Supply's Museum Series Hardbord is the most stable substrate on the market for your artwork. Our premium, warp-resistant, FSC-Certified 1/8” Hardbord will ensure your artwork is supported to prevent damage from warping, bowing or movement - it is the choice substrate for all Ampersand Museum Series coated panels. A great alternative to canvas, Hardbord is perfectly suited for all acrylic gessoes, specialty grounds, traditional gesso, and oil primers and is also a perfect support to mount watercolor papers, photographs, fabrics, prints and more. Ampersand uses true high-density hardboard made from US-grown renewable and FSC Certified Aspen wood fibers and is made without formaldehyde or harmful VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) unlike other hardboards and MDF boards. Only Ampersand builds cradles by hand with premium- grade, 13-ply birch plywood for maximum stability and a clean, finished look from edge to edge. Choose from 3/4", 1 1/2" and 2" deep cradles, offering support and presentation all-in-one. All Ampersand Museum Series panels are eco-friendly, formaldehyde-free, and proudly handcrafted in the USA.

  • Works Well for Holding Watercolor Paper
Color: 1/8 Inch Depth Size: 12X16
New to watercolor and needed something to protect my kitchen table. Can tape my watercolor paper to this board and the paper stays in place, but the tape comes off the board easily when I'm finished painting. I like the size of the board. Good quality from perspective. Solid.

  • Most helpful simple product for art Most helpful simple product for art
Color: 1/8 Inch Depth Size: 6X8 Inch Pack of 3
I recently picked up watercolor painting and I’ve tried clipboards, writing desks etc , but, one of the watercolor YouTubers was using this type of board, she didn’t mention what it was so I took a quick screen shot of it, ran it through google lens and it sure enough found it for me. This has been a game changer. I paint on the couch watching tv, I’m not a sit at an art desk kind of gal - and my house is tiny - space is a premium- so no art desk . Anyway, these come in several sizes but I mostly paint postcard size so I got this size and it’s been wonderful, smooth, no dings in it, so when I’m painting I can be sure I’m not gonna paint something wonky. It’s a comfortable size, not flimsy, I can clip paint or rags to it and it holds up, I do wish it had a couple of paint brush holes but I could have hubby add if I truly needed them. It’s compact , easy to store with my supplies next to my couch and I’m using my watercolors more. I could see this being handy for many artsy projects. So happy I found them!! ... show more

  • Multi-purpose, ultra useful item for artists and crafters
Color: 1/8 Inch Depth Size: 12X16
Let me say right off that I didn't buy this hardboard for the purpose intended, so I have no comments regarding its use as a painting panel, but it's super useful for many other things an artist or crafter might want to do. I was looking for a portable sketching board without a handle or clips, and thick enough to hang a 12" drafter's T-square on. The portable boards that have handles and clips are difficult to use with a T-square, and I need my paper to lie perfectly flat, which it doesn't if one end is raised under a clip. The surface is smooth enough that a T-square or ruler lies flat and so that you can use it as a small, portable drawing/drafting board. These boards would also be good for flattening watercolor paper (after painting, once the piece is dry) as well as a hundred other tasks I haven't even thought of yet. I will definitely be getting more of these. ... show more

  • good but pricey
Color: 1/8 Inch Depth Size: 12X16
I bought one of these and it's well made...but I am learning and I paint a lot. So I went to a large home and garden department store, bought a 4 ft by 8 ft piece of 1/8 inch hardboard (MDF board) and asked them to cut it for me, which they were happy to do. At this size you would end up with 24 pieces for the price of one. So this is a good product and the edges are sanded, but that doesn't matter too much to me. ... show more

  • Best watercolor board! I've tried way more than one size; ordering another today Deo Gratias!
Color: 1/8 Inch Depth Size: 12X16
Update: Just saw I had 9 x 12s. And 12 x 16s. NOW I'm back for the 16 x 20s. Hope these prove as sturdy as my other & drawing boards! Feb 2026, let's go! I started with a wee bitty one (9 x 12 I think?) and "graduated" to this same brand's 12 x 16. Talking to a gallery now, and I'm terrified, but Deo volente I won't get the (usual) bad deal, like I paint, gallery takes a 40% or more cut. But without my Jesus and (as I believe with a huge smile) the Holy Ghost leading me to this particular "bord", I doubt I'd be anywhere near the level to have any gallery interested in my work! I might size up to the 18 x 24 real soon! But I'm careful to not count my chickens before they hatch. So another 12 x 16 will greatly help where I'm doing my best work now I.X. ... show more
