These shoes in the Cognac color look fantastic right out of the box. The shade hits that sweet spot where it works with almost any dress pants—black, navy, grey, you name it. They’ve got that polished, versatile vibe without trying too hard. The sole is a bit stiff, but that’s pretty much part of the dress-shoe deal. Once you walk around, they settle in and stay comfortable enough for a full day. A couple of quirks showed up, though. The laces came pre-laced in a strange way - one end feeding from the bottom, the other from the top - so a quick relace was needed. And for a shoe that looks this sharp, metal grommets around the lace holes would’ve been a nice finishing touch and added durability. Overall, a solid pair of dress shoes with great style, comfortable enough for long wear, and just a couple of small oddities you’ll fix once and forget. If you’re going for that Cognac shine, they deliver.

I just got these in and here are my thoughts. First, while they look nice, you can tell these are faux leather shoes. Not gaudy but not real leather. They also don’t feel like they will give like real leather, becoming more supple as worn. They do seem like they will be easy to wipe clean. Scuffs will likely be a problem to buff out and cover based on the material. The inside of the shoe and sole has little padding and standing/walking in them for a short time has demonstrated that the balls of the feet will feel this rather quickly. I ordered these to size and they fit perfectly thus adding a sole support will make the shoe too tight but I do have on some thicker dress socks. (Don’t really have any thinner.) The rubber sole does add a little comfort and spring but not enough to make up for the internal lack of padding. I think these are priced about right for what you get. But, if you add about $20, you may get a shoe with better padding, leather outer with more comfort so you will get more wear out of your shoe because they will be the ones you reach for before these. An attractive shoe you can buy different colors in for versatility in a budget.

What a fun idea of dress shoes coming from Amazon essentials. My wife told me I needed a pair of dress shoes since I only ever have my casual shoes or work boots, so these are a great way to compromise. The shoe quality is nice and I really appreciate the comfort of them, which was good since I am in-between sizes and normally have issues with that. The default laces that came with these are not quite what I would expect in a dress shoe, but they're easily interchangeable so it's not a huge deal. My only issue with these is the imprint and stamping of the Amazon Essentials logo on both the insole and the heel of the shoes. They're telling on me if I cross my leg up or take my shoe off for whatever reason.

The Amazon Essentials men’s wingtip derby dress shoe is made entirely of man-made materials. I ordered the wingtip in black. The soles are made of a synthetic rubber and have a 1.25-inch heel that contains an attractive brown accent layer. The upper is made of a polyurethane synthetic leather which in black looks and feels very similar real leather. The shoe comes with a thin padded insole that runs from the heel to the toe. It is not removable and will offer some but little padding. The top stitching on the sole is white which creates an attractive contrast. I ordered these shoes for occasional wear and not for everyday use. I ordered the shoes in size 11 which is my normal size. These shoes are at least a half size too long and possibly a full size too long. I can still wear them though they feel a bit odd extending beyond my toe so much. I am retired now and no longer have a reason to have an everyday dress shoe. These shoes work for that occasional time I might need a dress shoe. At this current price these wingtips are a good buy. But if I needed an everyday shoe, I would purchase a much better shoe with a leather sole and upper.
