They run VERY small. My son has trouble finding pants that will fit his small waist and not be too short. I ordered a size up after reading the reviews that mention sizing, and they are still so tight he can barely fit in them. These were a last minute purchase when I realized he had to have black pants for something at school in just a few days and has outgrown his old pair, so no time to exchange and he'll make them work, but the reviews aren't kidding or exaggerating about them running small.
