These are comfortable and utilitarian - -as carpenter pants should be. The fabric is thicker than standard jeans - more like canvas than denim. They were kind of stiff at first but got a little softer after washing them. They are a little baggier in the legs than I expected, but that's not a problem - more freedom of movement. Seem to be good pants, not jeans, pockets are way to shallow. Pockets in the front are to far forward. Other than the pockets these pants are good. Good material and a great fit.

Don't need the loop for a hammer, so I cut it off for "more dressy" look. I only buy pants with a separate cell phone pocket on the thigh and prefer them without a pocket flap. The flapless thigh pockets on these pants are perfect, positioned slightly to the back of the leg, so a phone doesn't knock against my knee when I walk. Pocket fits standard iPhone fine. Oh, and the pants fit well also. I'd buy another pair of these pants in Navy, but the Amazon website says these are not available and may never be available. ... show more

Waist size is snugger than a size 40, closer to a size 38. One pair is a slightly thicker material. The color is a little lighter and is washed looking not dark like the pictures.
