I usually wear an adult medium in pants. When I went back to work in person after the pandemic I stopped wearing real work pants. I only wear stretchy pants. If your kiddo has an athletic build, strong legs, a booty or curves I would size up. My daughter will only get a few months wear out of them bc they’re slim fitting. Skinny fit is not good for all girls.

(She’s in a size 6 pants for reference) The pants are fitted on her just a bit but are very stretchy and long enough to grow in.
