  • Amazon products work well
Amazon products work well. Good for windows and doorways to separate rooms. Keep warm and cold in and out.

  • Prepare to Enter the Heart of Darkness
Here are a few things to consider when purchasing these blackout curtains: Once you put these bad boys on your window, the room will turn into a black hole of darkness that will engulf both soul and body. I cannot even describe the room I was in as black, it was a much deeper, almost boundless effect. Sensory deprivation will set in within minutes. You will lose all sense of what is up and down and feel like you are floating in deep space. After spending 10 hours in the room with the blackout curtains, my other senses became heightened. I heard the pitter-patter of ants walking on the floor. A mosquito buzzed by my ear and it sounded like a 747 roaring just feet overhead. I popped in a tic-tac from my pocket and it tasted like I had just chiseled off a block of arctic glacier from the Black Sea. When I touched the wall, it wasn't so much a touch, as a merging of two souls into one. The problem is when you open the curtains. Even though it was midnight, just the faint flow of the stars nearly burned my retinas. A key tip is that you have to gradually introduce light back into your life. I would recommend buying a nightlight and using that as your only source of light for a few days after being in the room with the curtains. It will help re-integrate you back into the normal world of light. I cant recommend highly enough. Unfortunately, we had to return because my wife didn't like the color (which I loved). ... show more

  • These are my go to curtains
I absolutely adore these curtains! They are the best value for blackout curtains Amazon has to offer, well in my opinion anyway. This spring I needed to update some rooms at our farmhouse to get ready for a memorial, we had about 20 people staying at our home, all from different areas of the world. It was important for me to make sure that good sleep was had by all, I purchased these curtains for four bedrooms, I ordered black and white. I will say, the black are perfect! they block all the light from the outside, I hung these specifically on the west side of the house as that is the side the sun goes down, our guests did not complain and woke up looking well rested. I will say the white curtains are not as room darkening as the black, for obvious reasons. Do they block like the black curtains, no, do they do an incredible job of keeping the bright sunlight out on the east side of the house, absolutely! These curtains are in no way sheer...they are heavy so make sure you have your curtain brackets mounted with heavy duty screws, I didn't and had to rehang them, they are heavy, but get the job done. The one con I have about this product would be that they are not wrinkle free...hello they come folded! However I have steamed them several times, and by about the third steam, they were not noticeable to the average person. I did not try to iron them, as I was nervous about ruining them. I would highly recommend these for anyone looking for an inexpensive blackout curtain. ... show more

  • Honest review
OK, I wanted to wait until the curtains were hung to see what the hype was all about. My bedroom is the portal to hades and is easily 5 or more degrees hotter than what our thermostat is set. In the summertime I keep my curtains closed and my fan is always on full blast yet the temperature never goes below 83° even though the thermostat is set around 78°. Over the past 15 years, I’ve had other room darkening curtains from Walmart but the light would creep through and of course that would make my room bright as well as hot. They sucked big time but I figured I’d use them till I got sick of them and when menopause hit, I got sick of them really fast. The first thing I noticed about these awesome, new curtains is the light does not come through like with the old ones, but it does come through the top and sides so I try to keep them pinned to the wall so that minimal light comes through from the sides. They also feel kinda silky, which is nice, since hated the texture of the old curtains that were there before. I got the dark grey (they’re not too dark and not too light), they’re beautiful and won’t show the dust like the ugly brown ones that were hanging there before. They actually brighten up my room whereas the brown made it dingy and bleak. Yes there are creases in these new curtains from where they were folded, but that doesn’t bother me since all I care about is keeping the house cooler. During the hottest part of the day the temperature in my room gets as high as 83.8°, but right now it is the hottest part of the day and the temperature is bouncing between 81.7 and 82° without my fan being on. That may not seem like much but it is HUGE for me since they’ve only been up for 20 minutes or so and the temperature before hanging them was 83.2. Honestly I was ready to put aluminum foil on my windows to keep from going broke paying the electric bill since it’s been one hot summer. On a scale from 1 - 10, I’ll give them an 8. I’ll update my review within the next couple days. If these new curtains can get my room to stay under 80° during the day, I’d be so happy and change my rating from 4 stars to 5. ... show more
