  • Great Value and Quality for Everyday Use
I’ve been using the Amazon Basics College Ruled Spiral Notebooks for a few months now, and they’ve been fantastic for both work and school. The 100-sheet capacity is perfect for my needs, and the college-ruled lines keep my notes neat and organized. The perforated pages make it easy to tear out sheets without any mess, and the 3-hole punch option is a great feature for adding pages to a binder. The wire binding is sturdy, and the covers come in assorted colors, which is a nice touch. Overall, these notebooks offer excellent quality at an affordable price. ... show more

  • Spring Semester Saved!
GENERAL: I flew back up to campus and realized I still hadn't purchased notebooks for the Spring Semester! Without a car, I knew I wouldn't be able to get out to Walmart in a day, but then I was saved! The notebooks came in a variety of colors: Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, and Teal. The pages are fine - I have no idea what people want from notebook pages, but there were no impressions on the flip-side of pages when using pencil or pen. If you buy the $1-$2 notebooks at most stores, it is the same quality but has 30 extra pages which makes a big difference since I am always just a few pages short by the end of the semester in harder classes. Overall it was a great deal for the $11 or so that I payed and I recommend purchasing if there aren't any good back-to-school deals near you. IMAGES: • 1: All of folders after about 2 weeks of use. Note that I am cram my backpack pretty well and carry a lot. • 2: The impressions you may expect through pages. I used a pencil to take notes and took a picture of the page's backside. THE PROS: • 30-40 pages more than most notebooks • Multiple colors for subjects • Pretty cheap • Nice style and room for customization THE CONS: • Covers are just cardboard - which can get worn • Not the best paper, but is perfectly fine for most uses ... show more

  • Good Purchase for the Price
All in all, this was a good purchase. Five, 100-sheet notebooks for under $10 is a good deal in my opinion. The pattern and color options are great - I had a hard time choosing. You have the option to purchase a set with less pages if you don't need 100-sheets. Pros: I like the pattern that I chose, I also like that there was more than one pattern to choose from. The pattern is on the front and back covers. Price for five, 100-sheet notebooks was a good deal. Prime shipping was available as this is an Amazon product. The sheets are easy to write on and are college ruled. The sheets are perforated so you can remove them easily from the notebooks. Cons: The main con, and the reason for 4 stars is that it's not easy to write on without it being on a table or clipboard of sorts. It would be nice if the back cover was a little more durable. • Grad Student Survival Essential
THE PROS - Why These Work So Well: The Price is Unbeatable: At roughly $8-12 for five notebooks (prices vary), that's about $1.60-2.40 per notebook. Walk into any campus bookstore and you'll pay $3-5 for a single comparable notebook. Over a semester, this saves real money. 100 Sheets is the Perfect Amount: Not too thin (runs out mid-semester) and not too thick (becomes unwieldy in a backpack). 100 sheets = 200 pages, which lasts me about one full semester per notebook for a typical 3-credit course with weekly lectures. Paper Quality is Actually Good: College-ruled, smooth enough for ballpoint and gel pens, thick enough that ink doesn't bleed through (even with my heavy-handed writing). I've used highlighters extensively with minimal ghosting on the back side. Wire Binding is Durable: After four months of being shoved into backpacks, dropped on floors, and flipped open/closed hundreds of times, the spiral binding on all five notebooks is still intact. No pages have torn out, no wire bending or snagging. Perforated Pages Tear Cleanly: The micro-perforation works perfectly. When I need to remove a page to turn in homework or share notes, it tears cleanly along the perforation with no jagged edges or partial tears. Color Variety Helps Organization: Five different solid colors (I got red, blue, green, black, and purple) make it incredibly easy to grab the right notebook for each class. Visual color-coding is a game-changer when you're rushing between classes. Margins are Properly Marked: Clear margin line on the left side. Seems obvious, but I've had cheap notebooks where the margin line was barely visible or inconsistently placed. Cover is Sturdy Cardstock: Not flimsy paper that bends and tears. The covers have protected the pages reasonably well despite rough handling in my backpack. Standard Size Works Everywhere: These fit perfectly in backpacks, desk drawers, and standard binders. Not oversized, not tiny - just right. Writing Feel is Smooth: The paper texture is smooth enough for comfortable writing but has enough tooth that pens don't slip. My handwriting looks the same as on premium paper. THE CONS - Setting Realistic Expectations: Covers Are Not Water-Resistant: Spilled water on one notebook (coffee shop accident). The cover absorbed moisture and warped slightly. Not destroyed, but not pristine either. Keep liquids away. Wire Binding Can Snag on Fabric: The exposed spiral occasionally catches on sweater sleeves or backpack fabric. Minor annoyance, but I've learned to be mindful when pulling notebooks out. No Pocket or Storage Features: Just a basic notebook - no inside pockets for storing loose papers or handouts. You'll need folders or binders for supplementary materials. Colors Are Random: You don't get to choose which five colors you receive. Mine worked out fine, but if you're particular about specific colors, this randomness might frustrate you. Paper is Not Premium: This is standard notebook paper - perfectly fine for notes but not ideal for art, calligraphy, or fancy pens. Fountain pen users might see bleed-through. Covers Bend and Show Wear: After four months, the covers have visible corner bending and edge wear. They're not pristine, but they're still functional. These aren't meant to be archival quality. Back Cover Has No Rigid Insert: Some notebooks have a hard backing to write on lap/standing. These don't - the back cover is just cardstock. Need a hard surface underneath for comfortable writing. No Elastic Band or Closure: Notebooks can open in your bag and pages can get bent. I wrap mine with rubber bands when transporting. REAL-WORLD SEMESTER TESTING: Daily Use Scenario: Five classes, 2-3 lectures per week each, extensive note-taking. These notebooks went through approximately 15 weeks of constant use. Backpack Life: Shoved into a stuffed backpack with textbooks, laptop, water bottle. Carried across campus multiple times daily. Survived remarkably well. Writing Instruments Used: Ballpoint pens (primary), gel pens, pencils, highlighters, fine-point Sharpies. All worked well on this paper. Page Count After Semester: Notebook 1 (most-used class): 85/100 sheets used Notebook 2: 72/100 sheets used Notebook 3: 68/100 sheets used Notebooks 4 & 5: ~60 sheets each All five will roll over to next semester, which means this $10 purchase is lasting me TWO semesters. That's insane value. Durability Assessment: Wire binding: 5/5 still perfect Covers: 3/5 showing wear but functional Pages: 4/5 minor corner bending, otherwise great Perforations: 5/5 still tear cleanly COMPARISON TO ALTERNATIVES: vs. Campus Bookstore Notebooks: These are 50-60% cheaper with equal or better quality. No reason to overpay at the bookstore. vs. Five Star / Mead Premium Notebooks: Those have more features (pockets, dividers) but cost 2-3x more. For basic note-taking, Amazon Basics is sufficient. vs. Composition Notebooks: Spiral notebooks are more flexible (pages tear out), but composition books have sewn binding that lasts longer. Different use cases. vs. Loose-Leaf Paper in Binders: Binders offer more organization but are bulkier. Spiral notebooks are more portable. vs. Digital Note-Taking (iPad/Laptop): I use both, but handwritten notes improve my retention. These notebooks complement my digital workflow. IDEAL USE CASES: College/University Students: Perfect for lecture notes, problem sets, study guides High School Students: Complete school year supply for multiple subjects Meeting Notes: Professional meetings, work notes, project planning Journaling: Daily journaling, bullet journaling, thought dumps To-Do Lists and Planning: Task management, daily planning, brainstorming Sketch Notebooks: Basic sketching (not art-grade but functional) Recipe Notes: Kitchen notebook for collecting recipes and meal plans Travel Journals: Lightweight notebooks for documenting trips NOT IDEAL FOR: Art/Illustration: Paper quality isn't suitable for markers, watercolor, or detailed art Fountain Pen Users: Likely to see bleed-through with wet inks Archival/Long-Term Storage: Paper will yellow and covers will degrade over decades Professional Presentations: Too casual for client-facing situations Heavy Outdoor Use: Not weather-resistant; will deteriorate in rain/humidity PRO TIPS FOR STUDENTS: Use one color per class - Makes grabbing the right notebook instant and automatic Date every page - Future-you will appreciate knowing when notes were taken Leave first page blank - Use it as a table of contents as semester progresses Number pages in corners - Makes referencing notes easier when studying Use dividers - Tear out a page, label it (Midterm 1, Midterm 2, etc.), and use as section markers Store loosely - Don't cram notebooks in too-tight spaces; prevents wire bending Write name and contact on cover - Lost notebooks can be returned Reinforce covers with clear packing tape - Extends life of covers significantly UNEXPECTED BENEFITS: Reduces Screen Time: Taking handwritten notes means less eye strain from staring at screens all day Better Retention: Studies show handwriting improves memory retention vs. typing Battery Independent: Never runs out of power, no charging required Distraction-Free: No notifications, email, or internet rabbit holes during lectures Satisfying Tangibility: There's something rewarding about filling pages and seeing progress VALUE BREAKDOWN: Cost per notebook: $1.60-2.40 Pages per notebook: 200 (100 sheets front/back) Cost per page: Less than 1 cent Semester usage: Approximately 1.5 semesters per 5-pack Total value: $5-6 per semester for all note-taking needs Compare that to premium notebooks at $15-25 per semester, and you're saving $10-20 while getting equivalent functionality. SUSTAINABILITY CONSIDERATION: These are paper products - not the most eco-friendly option. However, the durability means you're not constantly replacing them like ultra-cheap notebooks that fall apart. Using both sides of every page and recycling them when finished helps minimize waste. OVERALL VERDICT: These are exactly what boring basics should be - reliable, functional, and affordable. There's nothing fancy or exciting about them, but that's precisely the point. They do the job of "notebook" perfectly without unnecessary features or inflated pricing. After a full semester of abuse (and I do mean abuse - grad school is not gentle on school supplies), these notebooks are still functional and will serve me well into next semester. That's more than I can say for previous "premium" notebooks I've wasted money on. WHO SHOULD BUY THESE: Students at any level (high school, college, graduate school) Budget-conscious shoppers who want quality basics People who take extensive handwritten notes Anyone needing multiple notebooks at once Parents shopping for back-to-school supplies Professionals who prefer handwritten meeting notes People starting bullet journals on a budget WHO MIGHT WANT ALTERNATIVES: Art students (need better paper quality) Fountain pen enthusiasts (need thicker paper) Anyone wanting premium features (pockets, dividers, elastic bands) People preferring composition notebooks or binders Those needing water-resistant or weatherproof notebooks BOTTOM LINE: Four months ago, I bought these notebooks thinking they'd be "good enough" temporary placeholders until I bought something nicer. Now, after using them daily, I realize they're not placeholders - they're exactly what I need. Simple, functional, reliable, and ridiculously affordable. I've already added another 5-pack to my cart for next semester. When something works this well at this price, you don't overthink it - you just buy it again. ... show more
