Description

From Miranda Hopkins, a guide to saving, growing, propagating and reblooming your own holiday plants... Once winter hits and bare trees and bushes remove all vestiges of the growing season, many families opt to bring a bit of the outdoors inside. One fun and very easy way to do that is by adding live plants to the holiday decorating scheme. The bright red, white or coral color of poinsettia flowers always reminds people that the winter holiday season is here. You can force bulbs indoors so that your house bursts with the white flowers of Paperwhite Narcissus bulbs, or the many varieties of color combinations of different amaryllis species. If you are looking for a gift for someone who is hard to shop for, or a token gift to give to a host or hostess when you attend a holiday party, these winter holiday plants will fill that bill. In Amaryllis, Paperwhites and Poinsettias: Growing, Propagating and Reblooming Your Holiday Plants, Miranda Hopkins takes the reader through the history of each of the beautiful plants and provides us with an understanding on caring for them before, during and after their respective blooming periods. Miranda also describes how to propagate and get these plants to rebloom. Download Amaryllis, Paperwhites and Poinsettias: Growing, Propagating and Reblooming Your Holiday Plants today and save your holiday plants from being tossed out this year. Read more

All you need to know about growing and maintaining Amaryllis, Paperwhites and Poinsettias!
Format: Kindle
I've always liked planting these around Christmas time, and this has been an absolutely invaluable guide to doing so. It is truly everything you need to know about them, how best to grow and nourish them, what diseases they may get and how to protect them from these. There is a whole chapter devoted to the different diseases of Poinsettias, which is fantastic because this is always a concern. On each plant is included a chapter on its history and origins, also (depending on the plant) information on hybrids, new breeding trends, indoor and general care requirements, ideal outdoor growing requirements, new cultivars, plant shape and proportion, miniature varieties, commercial propagation, outdoor care requirements, and of course propagation methods etc - and much more besides. There is a wealth of information on each plant! This is definitely all you need to know about Amaryllis, Paperwhites and Poinsettias. Also included at the end is an additional resources section for more information on each plant. If this was a paperback version it would be "well-thumbed!" Highly recommended! ... show more

Before Those Holiday Plants Die, Grab This Book
Format: Kindle
The book is broken up into a detailed section for each plant. Starting with some background information, the author covers a wide variety of information you should know going forward. Such as, what to look for when purchasing, how to care for them during season and then after, popular colors/designs and how to recognize and treat diseases that can effect the health of your plant. I think that these plants warrant their own book, as they have specific needs, and the author has addressed them very well. Additional resources at the end of the book will help with additional research and care for each plant, as well as notable suppliers. If you are looking for a book to give you information on taking care of amaryllis, paperwhites and/or poinsettias, I would recommend starting with this one. Before those holiday plants die, you will want to grab this book. ... show more

Very informative guide
Format: Kindle
I found this to be an excellent guide. Very informative, detailed and helpful. I've always loved poinsettias but I always seem to have trouble in growing them successfully. This book gives me some great tips and advice which I know will help me. I like the history and general advice it gives on the amaryllis and paperwhites. I did find the contents page a little cluttered but this is only a minor thing in my opinion, the bulk of the content is well written and well put together. All in all a great guide for green thumbs when it comes to these plants. ... show more

Informative and practical,
Format: Kindle
This book was recommended me by a brilliant gardening friend. Since receiving it, I have decided to keep my poinsettias this year instead of tossing them. After reading the book, I am confident that I can get them to re-flower. There is also brief history about each of the beautiful plants and detailed information on caring for them before, during and after their respective blooming periods. It's full of information and is an easy reference. Highly recommended for an inexperienced gardener. ... show more

The book didn't provide beginning to end with the flowers. Disappointed.

Thorough handbook
Format: Kindle
I loved this book. It covers everything anyone interested in growing these flowers, from basic considerations to special warnings to future trends. The photos are very well chosen. The writing is well done, too, which tells me the author kept her reader -- the every day interested gardener -- in mind. A great book on the subject for a great price. ... show more

So Great
Format: Kindle
I got my first Amaryllis this year and with this book I was able to get my Amaryllis to grow and with six blooms on it. (No Lie). I was so excited I took a lot of pictures just to send to those who doubted me. I am just over the moon with happiness because I didn't think I could grow this plant. Now I am going to go on to trying my hand at the ever hard to grow Orchid. Thank you for giving me the ability to have yet another beautiful plant in my house. ... show more
