  • Design Fail May Lead to Existential Crisis
Color: White
I had this idea, which now seems hilarious and adorable, that I could buy this set of three floating shelves and pop them up in a lonely corner of my kitchen to hold some cheerful plants. I’m good with tools and following instructions and I’m very patient. I also appreciate doing things right and achieving good results. Installing floating shelves and other wall-anchored items has never been an issue for me. I tell you this to preface what I can only describe as a spectacular failure. I chose these shelves in particular because the price was okay and from the photos they looked as if they would match a white planter I own, with metallic gold accents. Unfortunately the powder coating on these shelf brackets is not the metallic gold you’re led to believe in the photos- it’s actually a sparkly yellow shade similar to a vintage vinyl bowling ball bag or the seat in a smoky 1970’s diner. I should have sent them back because they’re ugly. But after spending literally hours trying to install these during quarantine, the sunk cost fallacy took over and I doubled down and missed the return date. Due to a critically flawed design, there’s no way to assemble the shelf before mounting. The mounting screws for the brackets sit flush with the back of the shelf- that is, they lay *behind* the shelf sandwiched between the back of the shelf and the wall- and can only be accessed from the exact spot the shelf is meant to sit. This means the horizontal shelf planks can only be added to the brackets once the brackets are already mounted to the wall. What this means for you is that, for each of these three shelves, you’re going to be drilling four mounting holes for the two seperate floating brackets (per shelf- so x3) without being able to tell whether or not the shelf itself will be level. Even a millimeter of variation in one screw’s height on the wall due to, say, a slight variation in wall texture or an imperceptible wobble in your drill will ruin your chances of having a level shelf. The chances you’re getting even one shelf level are bad. Now multiply that times three. 😂😭 Even if you have the patience of a saint and hours to spare- depending on the wall you want these on, there might be no way to have level shelves regardless of how carefully you measure and draw. If the shelf length spans a stud and you have to use some combo of both the drywall anchors and the stud itself to mount these, the chance of the shelf being level is out the window. When I bought these I had hoped to line up two of the shelves and mount them across a corner to make an L shaped shelf next to a window. That is a fool’s errand- don’t even think about it. The chances of you getting even one shelf up and level using combination stud and anchor mounting are slim to none. The chances of you creating a level plane with two of these demon shelves are vanishingly small. I defy any engineer / carpenter to do it, frankly. At this point I should have just installed these shelves at intentionally grotesque angles such that they could never hold a thing, perhaps as a Dada ode to the instability and futility of capitalism. But I digress. I strongly advise against purchasing these. But, in the event that you are a masochist and you decide to purchase and attempt to install these godforsaken shelves despite fair waning, there is still the not-small matter of screwing the shelves themselves onto the brackets once you’ve mounted the brackets. How do you feel about screwing in teeny, tiny screws, less than an inch from and at right angles to the wall? Unless you enjoy having raw knuckles or own a right-angle drill / screwdriver, you will be the one who is, in fact, screwed. At some point in one’s life, when one reaches a certain age perhaps and is living through a deadly pandemic, it’s possible the inescapable failure this product will bring to every attempt to correctly install it is merely an invitation to pondering the futility of existence with much existential dread. Perhaps it is a meditative koan of some kind. Perhaps it is a psyop meant to grind down Americans’ individual confidence. We may never know. To sum up: You may find yourself living in a rented house and you may order shelves from another part of the world and you may find yourself behind a level and a large automo-drill You may find yourself in your beautiful house... wasting precious life And you may ask yourself “well, how did I get here?” Letting the days go by, let the shelving hold me down Letting the days go by, shelves still sitting on the ground Read the directions again after the money’s gone Once in a lifetime, shelves a pile upon the ground And you may ask yourself “how do I work this?” And you may ask yourself “should a buy a right-angle drill?” And you may tell yourself “unlevel shelves? Not in my beautiful house!” And you may tell yourself “shelves won’t ruin my beautiful life!” Letting the days go by, let the shelving hold me down. Letting the days go by, shelves still sitting on the ground. Read the directions again after the money’s gone. Once in a lifetime, shelves a pile upon the ground. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was I am installing and I am removing... I curse these shelves to the bottom of the ocean. Measure the bracket, mount the bracket. Remove the bracket and chuck it in the ocean. I am installing and I am removing... Letting the days go by, let the shelving hold me down. Letting the days go by, shelves still sitting on the ground. Get out the level again, another pencil mark Under the holes in the wall, there are shelves upon the ground Letting the days go by, still the shelving holds me down. Letting the days go by, shelves still sitting on the ground. Try a different wall, maybe avoid the studs?Once in a lifetime, shelves are still upon the ground You may ask yourself “where is that beautiful shelf?” You may ask yourself “what do these directions go to?” And you may ask yourself “am I right? Am I wrong?” And you may say to yourself “My God! What have I done?” Letting the days go by, let the shelving hold me down. Letting the days go by, shelves still sitting on the ground. Get out the level again, another pencil mark Under the pilot holes, there are shelves upon the ground Letting the days go by, still the shelving holds me down. • Different brackets have different screw hole alignments, be sure to use same one measured to install
Color: White
These floating shelves were a little time consuming to hang but worth it once I got them up. They are sleek and versatile. I positioned the three shelves in a corner on alternating walls. I assembled the brackets in three different ways to give them my own funky touch. The shelves come with two different size fastener plugs and screws for lighter or heavier weight. I am using my shelves for decorative purposes, with a few small cactus plants on one, a 5'8" picture frame on another, and a couple hardcover books on the longest shelf. I am very happy with the aesthetic of these shelves! ... show more

  • Nice small shelf, very sturdy. A few minor improvements would be nice.
Color: White
The bracket and fasteners are sturdy enough that I only needed one set for my need. Two would help with stability if you want it to stay completely level - or if you are going to put a lot of weight on it and mount it to something other than solid wood - but the largest shelf is only 16 1/2 " long. They included screw-in anchors for drywall, and limited the use of typical (cheap) expansion anchors for concrete, so these hold really well to drywall. See my first photo, which shows the shelf looking good with only one bracket. The shelf is smoothly and evenly painted - it looks nice. The screws are brass-colored to match the bracket, and they are nice and long - except for the ones that go into the shelf, which are thick to get a good grip, but they are by necessity shorter than the wood thickness. Many shelf manufacturers use glorified tacks rather than quality screws. My issues - or rather, room for improvement: The shelf is straight without an indent for the bracket, so it doesn't fit snugly against the wall, though in my case, that meant I wasn't tied to a fixed location for the bracket. It's also less of an issue if you use two brackets, where the gap will be between the brackets. The shelf doesn't have pre-drilled holes for the screws. You will want to drill small pilot holes - very carefully, since you don't want to go all the way through the board. Again, this was useful for me, since I wasn't using their intended spacing. And the screws are beveled with flat heads, while the brackets have round holes, which means the screws don't fit neatly or completely into the holes. This is especially an issue on the back edge where you want to push the board up flush against the screws. If the brackets were thicker - not for sturdiness, but for the screw holes - and if the holes were beveled to match the screws - the surface would have been flush. If I had thought of it, I could have drilled out recesses for the screw heads on the backside of the board, which would have helped the board to fit more flush against the bracket. Notice my second photo that lets you see more clearly the specific issue with the screws on the underside of the bracket, and which also shows the slight gap between the shelf and the wall - this gap is caused by a combination of the bracket thickness and the screw heads that hold the bracket to the wall. In my case, the gap is hidden from above, since I have the shelf under the window trim. ... show more

  • Cute shelves

I got 2 sets of these for above the coffee bar in our Airbnb. I love them, they turned out great and add some interest to the wall with the gold brackets.

  • Slightly difficult to install
Color: White
These were slightly difficult to install and figure out. However, if you have an electric drill then it makes it much easier. The color is not a shiny gold but a duller brass. They are a great size and hold up my pictures

  • Stunning
Color: Marble
Absolutely beautiful, and very sturdy. A little tricky to install because the brackets get in the way a little when tightening the screws. But I am more than satisfied with the results, and theu feel quite sturdy.

  • Good once installed
Color: White
These are reallly pretty. As others have said, installation is a huge pain. But, they do look nice once installed. I like the gold color…not sure what everyone’s gripe is with it 🤨
