I’ve been wearing the Torin plush since they came out and regular Torins since the 2.5s. What happened to the cushioning under the ball of the foot? This is my main area of issues. The 5 has lost cushioning compared to the 4 and 4.5. Plus the size is slightly shorter and they are more snug; even though they look wider (think that's because sole sticks out more on sides). And the insole is like a piece of cardboard; lost all "cush". Replaced insole with better one but did not help. Shoe very uncomfortable after just wearing around house a few hours. Boxed up and ready to send back. With I could find a 4.5 in my size; I've about worn the two pairs I have out.

The razor-tongue chewed the top of my ankle raw. Couldn't return them, so I tried to trim the razor-tongue down. Chewed my ankle again. Trimmed it down further and it's still rubbing raw. I see similar reviews here about this issue. Does Altra not employ even ONE female who could test their women's shoes before they send them to market? $150 for nothing.

I love Altra running shoes in general. However, this is the first Altra running shoe I have encountered with a hard tongue. It cut my skin open on the first run.

I bought these shoes for the comfort padding on the sole, but Altra failed to put any padding on the shoe's tongue. Plus, the tongue is made of cheap plastic that dug into the front of my ankles, causing sores. I spent $20 dollars to have a shoemaker trim and restitch the tongues, but it was not enough; the lack of padding meant the injuries continued. I was very disappointed in Altra, as I have previously bought quality Altra shoes that had appropriately padded tongues and performed as expected. I wasted money on these and my ankles took three weeks to heal. I want to help others avoid that.

I took a risk, and ordered these Torin shoes online without trying them on before. In the past , I've had very good luck ordering Torin's online, and they feel smooth and supportive for my every day use. I do not run, but they are my daily shoes all the time. It has taken a few weeks for my feet to get used to the shoes, and the shoes to get used to my feet. Essentially I am breaking them in . Plus, I have been experimenting with different thicknesses of socks. Slowly, it is coming together, and I'm increasingly comfortable and happy with them. Friends look at the shoes and remark that they look sturdy and supportive, which is true. I ordered on line because I'm too lazy to go to a real store, but I think the next time I need such shoes I'll ' bite the bullet', and find them at a brick and motor shop. Increasingly it is hard work at both Amazon and in brick and motor shops. A few years ago, I had no problem finding the Torin shoe I really liked at Amazon.

I have used this brand of shoes for years. This style wasn't to my liking. It had little cushion and a rubber tongue ( I am allergic to rubber). Overall a disappointment. Finally the color, bright orange isn't my thing. Perhaps if I was doing road work and I needed to be noticed : ) . I am still committed to this brand of shoes but the Torin 5 is a definite no for me.

If you’re looking for a shoe with a wide toe box, this is it! I’ve tried other brands but continued to lose toe nails due to running. I’ve not lost a toenail in over a year due to the shape and construction of this shoe. Excellent running shoes well worth a try if you run any distance.

I loved these shoes so much ... yes, you do have to wear a sock to prevent the tongue from rubbing.. but it’s worth it! Love the fit, the comfort on long trail walks.
