Update: still old but not as fat now and I still love these shoes. Now I am able to hike about 5 miles. This type of shoe has been key for my feet. Not to run, just a great pair of supportive shoes for day hiking or roads. The wide base is nice & grippy with its vibram sole. I buy different insoles since the ones that come with the shoes are worthless. I have extra pairs in the closet for spares as they do eventually break down. But honestly, these are my main go to shoes for everything. I just wish the company would quit 'upgrading' the shoes and narrowing them in newer versions! Original review: Love these shoes. I am NOT a runner, just a fat old grandma who loves to walk. These are the only shoes that stop my plantar fasciatis from hurting. I can walk my 30 minutes easily. The shoes fit my wide duck feet very well, no squished toes, great traction in on & off trails. The design labels peeled off the first shoes but I didn't care as I'm not a fashion person. I'm going to buy another pair for backup.

I love these sneakers. I have very hard to fit feet, high arches and wide across the instep. When I first got these I noticed similar things as other reviewers, surprised at how my toes touched in a 10.5. However, I think this is due to the neoprene padding in the heal. I laced up the last hole, which helped to keep my foot far enough back that the toes touching weren’t really an issue. But the laces are too short to really tie a bow with them laced this way. After my first trial walk I decided to try putting my arch insoles in, since one of my arches was getting crampy. I thought they’d be too small with the insoles, but to my delight I was able to add my arch supports under the altra insole, and it fixed the fit problem altogether. It helps to keep my heel in the right position without having to lace the last hole, so now they are just right. My favorite part (asides from all the other great things like the vibrant red color and the cushiony ride) is the super grippy vibram sole. Here in the PNW, this comes in very useful where the sidewalks are sometimes slippery from moss, and even walking from the wet outdoors into a store, these shoes STICK.

Nice color, nice fit. Its my third pair of Altras and they are a little bit stiffer than my others but not uncomfortable. They are breaking in as I wear them. Great traction on them. Plenty of cushioning for standing or walking on for hours on end.

There’s have been great for managing my plantar fasciitis! They definitely run a little small, maybe size up a half size. Super comfortable and supportive for my heels. I’ve worn them to work and as a daily shoe. I had not done anything active in them and the same tread on each shoe has come loose. Maybe it’s the way I walk, but I feel like 2 weeks of basic use should not have resulted in that. I could probably glue it back down. But for the cost that feels like a quality issue.

I bought Altra Olympus shoes because I have neuropathy and I need a good show. I wear shoes all day because I walk better with the support they offer. I have to go from a size 8 with others to a 9 with these. Okay, no problem. But now they have redesigned them and made them cheaper. They definitely did not reflect the savings in what they charge me for them though. The tongue of the shoe is now a stiff, thin piece of plastic that dogs into my leg. The once thick, cushy sole of the shoe now feels like any other shoe. No more cushy walking, no more soft and comfortable support. Instead, it's just another overpriced show. If I can find some that are a clearance of the previous version I might buy those while I can. Otherwise, I won't waste my money on this brand.
